I was so excited to be asked to co-host My Favorite Things, a series hosted by Jennifer from Dimples & Tangles, Kris from Driven by Decor, Lisa from Shine Your Light, and Pam from Simple Details.
This month we are talking pillows.
When I went back and researched all the pillow projects I had ever created on the blog, I discovered two things.
1. I have a plethora of pillow DIY’s.
You could say a myriad.
Or a multitude.
Or simply a lot.
2. I think my pillows are all about my house.
And vice versa.
But enough vocabulary and pillow self-reflection.
Let’s get this pillow party started.
I think this is my favorite pillow project of all.
Maybe because it took me about 22.7 minutes to make.
Maybe because I needed a graphic pop on the back porch.
Or maybe because I made it from something we all have sitting in our closets collecting dust.
A shopping bag.
Step 1: Start with a shopping bag
I have three of these (see what I mean).
Start by cutting two rectangles from the bag.
Cut at the edge of the trim to maximize your pillow space.
When you are done it should look like this.
I left the cute stitching at the top but you could cut that off if you want.
Step 2: Sew the two rectangles together
I know this is a scary step for some of you.
You could always use fabric glue if sewing is not your thing.
I just stitched seams on three sides of the pillow on the outside.
Step 3: Stuff the pillow and sew closed
Now you have the start of your pillow. Stuff and sew closed.
I filled it with poly-fill and then pushed the poly-fill to the very back so I could sew it closed on the end.
That’s it.
Plenty of extra time to relax and enjoy a glass of sweet tea.
And now…..drum roll please….in no particular order my other favorite pillow projects.

Loving all of your pillow ideas, KariAnne! The monogram is a favorite! Happy Tuesday ~
I have a pillow problem as well! I love to make new ones!! Super cute projects!!
I have sewn 1000's of pillows, but your ideas are ones to strive for!
Where did you find the rug? It is simply stunning.Thank you
I did a post last week with 7 tips and tricks for buying throw pillows on a budget. I too have a "pillow problem" which I don't consider a problem at all! :) I love all your fun pillows! https://lilacdrivedesigns.blogspot.com/2016/03/pillow-talk-my-top-7-tips-for-throw.html
Kari, I am redoing our master bedroom and love the blue and white curtains in your living room (I think)....would you share where you got them? Or did you make them and if so, where the fabric came from? Love your blog...especially the stories about your family!
OMG I think your black and white pillow out of a bag is perfect for outside. I have to do that for sure!! I have several of those plastic type things. I'm excited and I really never thought of those bags as pillows!! You Rock!! Rowena
Oh my goodness, I love the watercolor house pillow. I HAVE to make one( or two) of our house in different seasons.
I love that watercolor pillow. But the bag pillows are just genius! I will totally be making them for our porch!
Genius on the tote bag idea!! A great way to recycle bags and refresh my porch pillows!! You, my friend, made my day! And of course, the rest are amazing, too. Thanks for new inspiration. ;-)
Love the house pillow! So many great ideas! Shelley
I never would have thought to make a pillow from a shopping bag!1 But then I have never MADE a pillow! I sure have bought a ton of them though! I need a 12 step program:):)
Great ideas!! I love the shopping bag one -- perfect for outdoors. Now the important question is: do you ever have pillow fights with all of your pillows?? I know that isn't the most important question in the universe but my kids would always take all my pillows and start a play war :-( Now it's the grandkids but I don't have really "nice" pillows. Just your ordinary every day type Wal-Mart pillows. Hope your day is filled with sunshine -- I think it's going to storm here.
You were no doubt the perfect person for the pillow theme! LOVE your brilliant new shopping bag pillow (I have the coolest HomeGoods bag that would be perfect for it!) and all of the other creative projects you shared. Thanks so much for joining along with us this month KariAnne!
You always have the cutest and creative pillows...I so remember when you made the one using a shopping bag...too cute!!!
The pom pom pillow...I still gawk at it. I so need to find a place to do this in my house. I saw the more gorgeous fun shopping bags at T.J. Maxx the other day. I think I have a reason to buy them now! I forgot that I was going to remember this project. Too many projects, not enough time.
A pillow out of a shopping bag? You are brilliant! How perfect for outdoors! It was so nice of you to join us for MFF, KariAnne!
It's true, inspiration is everywhere! Love your brilliant vision for transforming a shopping bag into a pillow, that's opened up a whole new world while I'm in the check out line where they sell them! Ha! Thanks so much for sharing your creativity with us this month, KariAnne! :)
Oh my goodness... now I have to go to HomeGoods and buy all the pretty shopping bags the sell for like a dollar. I will have more outdoor pillows that I know what to do with!
I love all the pillow projects, but I think the pom-pom one is my favorite! That was pretty darn crafty making that pillow out of that shopping bag, Ms. Thistle;) Have a great day!
I love all of them but the first one using that old vinyl shopping bag...brilliant or amazing or genius. Now to go through my stash and see what I can do with one.
I made a pillow with the watercolor painting as a gift for a friend. She loved it and said she's had lots of compliments on it!
Wow! It has never came to my mind that I can use the shopping bags to have pillow. I am just in love with those pillow. I think I will buy a few bags from the nearer flea market and will sew a few pillows. Kids love playing with them. They are comfy and stylish. Thanks for the idea!
