master bedroom

When I was little my sisters and I used to play Gone With the Wind.

Or some facsimile there of.

We’d walk around in fancy costumes that came out of a barrel of old prom dresses some brilliant person handed down to us and wear hats and sip tea and pretend we were waiting to make clothes out of curtains.

I was in charge of everything.

So of course….

….I was Scarlett.

I was always the one planning the parties and telling my sisters to get the tea and tossing my hair around and waving my hands and batting my eyelashes and sighing.

And saying y’all.

And wishing I could throw open the windows and wave a white handkerchief at passerbyers…

…..and hoping against hope that one day Rhett would show up.

Then one day I grew up.

And married my own Rhett and started wearing red lipstick and moved to a farmhouse in the middle of the country with a master bedroom that looks like it speaks southern.

I decorated it with seagrass rugs and burlap ottomans and chippy tables and patterned lampshades and linen chairs and fresh flowers from the garden.

And the one thing I always wanted to add?

The one thing my heart longed for?

The one thing I knew would finish the room and make it shine and be the last little red-lipstick detail?

Wonderful, incredible, amazing, classic, story-book ending plantation shutters.

Enter Blindster.

They have the best selection of Plantation Shutters that are so much more affordable than similar shutters from other retailers..

It was seriously the easiest ordering process I’ve ever seen.

I sent in the measurements and picked out all the details I wanted and then they called me up for a shutter consultation.  The customer service department wanted to make sure I had everything exactly like I wanted it so there wouldn’t be any problem with the fit of my blinds.  We walked through every detail together to make sure the shutters were perfect.

And then these arrived.

Beautiful, wonderful, high-quality plantation shutters totally custom-made for me.

And the best part?

Wait until you see this.

blinds half closedYou can leave the top shutters open.

And close the bottom shutters.

Or close the top if there’s too much sun and leave the bottom open.

And then…..wait for it…..wait for it….

You can open them like this.

*sigh*

Isn’t it wonderful how a simple, little thing can make a day so much brighter.

Literally.

I am a traditional decor girl from the South and I love, love, love shutters. They are simply a decoring staple for every. single. room. Love how yours turned out. They are soft and graceful, but add so much character. Beautiful job, as always. Susie from The Chelsea Project

So, so pretty!! I love that you can sit the bottom and top separately. Also love the shot of them open. Reminds me of a time when I used to have shutters in a former home I owned. Maybe again someday.....

OMG!!! I can't believe this. I saw your Instagram post before I saw this. You won't believe my impression -- I commented on the room. I won't go into detail but our minds must think alike. Incredible!!! Have a wonderful day. O, BTW, your bedroom is beautiful!

As a girl who finds great roadside treasures yourself, you would never believe it that I found a large set of shutters...for free! Now I may have to dress the rest of the windows with the discount.

Oh, you and your sisters had such classic and timeless style...for me and my sis and friends, it was Charlie's Angels...problem being, we had about five Jills. :) Your shutters are absolute gorgeousness, KariAnne...who wouldn't feel like they are waking up to a dream, waking up to those! Y'all will never go hungry again! Or sumpin' like that. ;)

I have always loved plantation shutters! They look wonderful! I think you meant "I'm fixin to go get my handkerchief." Lol! I live smack dab in the middle of Alabama, I can say that! Lol!

They were super easy to install and the frame just clicked together. The customer service department was really amazing and walked me through any questions I had! Happy day! karianne

Oh, I have always loved plantation shutters! Miss them from a previous house! I laughed when I read your "Scarlett" post because I could so see you coming down that staircase dressed in Carol Burnett's green velvet draperies with the rod over your shoulder from her "went with the wind" skit!! Still giggling! Have a great day, Scarlett!

Yes, Scarlett, I do understand. And when we built this house, I hat shutters put on every single window. Just like yours. But, I forgot one! LOL! It's true. I am going to have to breakdown and get one more set. Can you believe it, one tiny set!

The biggest thing Scarlett and I have in common, " ... I'll think about that TOMORROW!" teehee! But I do love those plantation shutters, REALLY love them ~ and they are perfection in your wonderful home! Thanks for the discount offer with Blindster! We have so many windows that even with such a generous discount I may have to wait for the design pendulum to swing back to plain ol' wood blinds (or maybe they can just be the same "vintage" as much of our decor!) ... Kidding aside ~ Love everything you do, and every post like this puts another item on my growing wish list! Smiles! kj

Hi KariAnne~ I love you shutters, but I love your story more. Every post I read from you, I have a big smile on my face. Have a wonderful day. Much love, Rose

The shutters look great! I know you are going to really enjoy them so much. When we built our home we had custom plantation shutters installed in all our windows. We just love them...

Oh I love the shutters. Thanks for the information on them. Have a great week ya'll. Mary PS MY favorite movie always was Gone With the Wind. I watch it every time it comes on, I really should buy my own DVD.

Love that room! And I adore my plantation shutters. Not only for the look, I have a lowcountry style home, but "Ah declare, they keep mah room coolah" as they provide some insulation value as well. And I like the light control. Biggest reward, the pets cant brush up against them and leave fur presents along the bottom as they did when I had long drapes! Seriously! Pet fur bordered draperies. lol.

  17. Image for Ellen Ellen

"Gone With The Wind" is my most favorite book and movie ever!! I was Scarlet O'Hara for a Halloween party in my teens with a costume I made myself. That was the beginning of my sewing costumes for many, many years. SORRY- flashback moment there! Love these shutters and wish I had those tall windows like your master bedroom. I really like that you can have the top and/or bottom open any way you desire, just perfect. Thank-you for this informative post. Now go wave your handkerchief from one of those windows.

LOVE your plantation shutters. I have wanted them for our master since we moved in. Then.....serendipity....our neighbors behind us wanted to replace their shutters in their living room. Of course they are the same size I needed. They had no place to use them so...we bought heirs for a FRACTION of the cost!!!! I do the happy dance every time I walk in there now. I loved your story of you and your sisters. I used to play Mass with 2 of my friends. We took turns being the priest, made our own communions, had water and wine in cruets and memorized the whole mass in latin!!!! Too funny!!!

Your shutters are gorgeous, and thanks so much for the coupon! My mama has been thinking of getting some and I do believe this will seal the deal! PS, It's y'all... the apostrophe is contracting the "ou" in you. :o)

  20. Image for Pam Clark Pam Clark

Since it's the first day of school for me, and I am a middle school English teacher, I must point out that it's y'all, not ya'll......it's a contraction of you + all. In a contraction, the apostrophe takes the place of the letter or letters that have been omitted when the contractions is made, hence y'all. LOVE the shutters! I was 6 years old the first time I saw Gone with the Wind and was hooked immediately.

Are your shutters the faux wood type? Did you have a hard time picking a color? This coupon comes at a perfect time for me! I think I will order some. Thanks so much!!

Judy, The shutters are faux wood! I didn't have a hard time picking a color because I knew I was going with white. :) Be sure and let me know how you like them! Happy day friend! karianne
