New York Skyline

It wasn’t an April Fool’s.

Yesterday I stood on the streets of New York City.

It was a whirlwind trip.  La-Z-Boy invited me to go behind the scenes of a commercial they were filming in NYC.  One of the rooms from the commercial was inspired by this room that I created for them during the Design Dash contest.

That wonderful, glorious houndstooth chair was front and center.

I spent the morning watching the filming and shaking hands and meeting the most amazing cast and crew and eating at the Kraft Food table and trying to contain my excitement and acting like this is something that I do everyday.

And meeting Fred Savage.

And Constantine from American Idol.

And Brooke.

(total aside:  can I tell you how much I love typing that sentence)

New York Park

But I’m so getting ahead of myself.

Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start).

My husband and I arrived at New York City and parked the car and dumped our bags in the hotel and jumped up and down and told each other that we had just been drinking coffee that morning in Kentucky looking at the cow pasture and now we were gazing at the New York City skyline.

And then promptly went out on the town that night and saw the sights.

It was incredible.

New York Times Square

The next morning was the day of the behind-the-scenes filming of the commercial.

I awoke to NYC coffee and the city.

I brushed my teeth and washed my face and curled my hair and put on my “going to meet Brooke” statement necklace and reached into my bag for my make-up.

It wasn’t there.

What?

New York Church

Where was it?

I knew I had it yesterday.  Frantically, I searched the entire length of a New York City hotel room for a little blue and white polka-dotted make-up bag with special wrinkle-dissolving under-eye concealer and the best tube of red lipstick on the planet.

It wasn’t there.

I had left it in the rental car.

The rental car that was parked 47 blocks and a twenty minute cab ride away next to the Port Authority bus terminal.

New York and Me

So here’s me.

On the street of NYC, opening a New York City drugstore door 30 minutes before I left for the commercial shoot.

Looking casual.

With my face washed and my teeth brushed and my hair curled and my amazing “going to meet Brooke” statement necklace….

….without a stitch of make-up.

Or a tube of red lipstick in sight.

New York Lipstick

Good thing there were these.

I grabbed a bag of make-up that at New York City prices cost me almost as much as week’s worth of groceries in Kentucky.

This wasn’t my go-to Dollar General.

*sigh*

New York Katz's

Then I took my bag of make-up and walked around the corner to Katz’s deli where I ate breakfast and applied red lipstick under the watchful eye of a photograph of a smiling Judge Judy.

Narrow escape.

Tragedy averted.

Me and Brooke

And the best part?

An hour later, my red lipstick and I met Brooke.

I know….right?

And everyone lived happily-ever-after.

The end.

PS  Just kidding.  Totally not the end.  I have so much more to tell about the trip.

Coming soon to a blog near you. 🙂

Your trip sounds so exciting, can't wait for the next chapter. Only to tell you I also lost more than a weeks worth of groceries flying to Washington DC on a HY Vee Veterans flight, took new Mary Kay on my carry on bag and much to my dismay, only 3 oz is allowed so you know where it all went, Garbage, first time to shop at a drug store on a corner.

Forgetting my makeup is my #1 worry when I travel! I always pack it in my purse if I'm flying - if I have to wait for a lost bag, I'll do it with my face on, thank you.

I'm also curious to see where you travel in the city as I picture you to be more of a "grab a croissant and have breakfast at Tiffany's" kinda gal then a "gimme a bagel and a shmere" Katz's deli kinda gal.

I left my makeup home once on a trip from MD to Louisiana. I remember thinking as I realized this in VA...Oh, I live in the US now and I can buy more! of most anything. Phew! I too need, NEED, to know what under eye concealer you use. I suspect Brooke is tall and you are...not. I wonder what the difference in height was? ;)

Only KariAnne could leave her cute polka dot make up bag in a NYC taxi cab! Just makes the story and life more interesting. P.S. I'm working on my new blog with all your recommendations and someday, hopefully, will have something before it's 2016...
