When we bought back the house I grew up in, this room was the first one on my checklist.

Bless it’s heart.

It needed it.

We replaced the flooring with hardwood and took down the paneled ceiling and added lighting and painted it Mindful Gray SW 7016 (the color in this picture) then Sandbar SW 7547and then finally Extra White SW 7006.

There was the artwork I added to the wall and the bookcases that we transformed with lighting and the fireplace mantel that we built in and the hutch that I completely made over from a thrift store find.

And now?

I’m adding a few more projects to this space. It’s part of a “Makeover In a Month” series that I’m working on with a few of my friends, Leslie from My-100-Year-Old-Home and Marion from Miss Mustard Seed and Melissa from The Inspired Room.

The goal is to transform this space with projects and affordable tips and ideas in 30 days.

Yikes.

30 days seems so long and so short all at the same time.

Here’s the plan on how I’m going to do it.

Here’s just a few of the sources and a design board that I put together for the new room.

There will be new lighting and new pillows and a new rug and a new built-in for the television and a couple of thrift store makeovers and so much more.

Let’s walk through the plan for the room.

1. New shades and a built-in for the television

I’m going to add new cordless roman shades with woven texture to this window.

And this area for the television?

It’s going to be built-in.

I can’t wait to show you an easy way to hide the television in your room.

Here’s a close-up of the shades I’m ordering from Amazon.

And the rug I’m ordering from Overstock.

2. New hardware

See the french doors in the back of the room on the left?

Those will get this AMAZING new hardware that looks like it stepped off the beaches of the south of France.

It was my one big splurge for the new room.

Here’s the top hardware and the bottom hardware for the door.

Isn’t it fancy?

It will run almost the length of each of the doors.

I’m also going to add the same woven shades to the doors.

3. New lighting

I’m also adding this lamp above the table.

This is our game table for the room and we needed better lighting.

The brass accents of the chandelier will coordinate with the new brass hardware.

4. Table makeover

I’m also going to transform this $10 thrift store table.

The top will have a fun faux finish with stain and a stencil that transforms the top into the look of an antique.

Here’s a sneak peek at where it’s headed.

5. Accessories

I’m adding some vintage pieces to the room along with a new tassel throw and these pillows.

If you are looking for simple affordable pillows for an update for your room, these pillow covers are under $12 each.

And the best part about those pillow covers?

They have already mixed and matched them for you.

I’m also adding a little bit of fall to the space, too.

I can’t wait to show you this space in a month.

It’s going to look like a whole new room.

A makeover in a month.

30 days.

There’s no time for chatting now—I have to get going.

The calendar is ticking.

The room and I will see you in 29 days, 12 hours and 54 minutes. 🙂

That's going to be lovely - I'm sure! I never know where to save and where to 'splurge' with a room make-over, but I'm learning form you - hardware and lighting are costly but they REALLY make a room!

As usual, you inspire me! I am so excited by this post! I am still recovering from the aftereffects of chemo and radiation therapy following cancer surgery, but I have decided to do a month long makeover, too. I am limited by budget and energy, but I can do small things that will make my home more beautiful and functional. Thank you for your beautiful spirit!

I know it will be lovely, but I can’t believe you’ll get rid of the blue color. I’m partial to blue and white!

My curiosity about your table and stencil are killing me! I keep looking back and forth between the two images and can hardly wait to see your technique for doing this! Your teaser photo of the finished product is doing just that. Teasing! :) I am 100% sure the room will be absolutely gorgeous when you are done. Are you into chateaus right now as well? Egad! Let's be twins!

I love seeing your furniture makeovers, I could stare at the same piece of furniture for hours and not come up with your ideas. I am looking forward to your new room and your usual display of of talent. 🙂 I like to change my rooms around seasonally but I am literally running out of storage space. Totes used to work...now I have so many they are inefficient. Do you have any suggestions how we can store/organize those rugs and pillows we don’t want to part with? My husband is threatening to live on a boat so I will have nothing to decorate!

I CAN'T wait, particularly for the table makeover! I'm a sucker for a good before and after. But that table!!! I beg you to lead with that, but I bet you're going to tantalize us all month before we get the full nitty gritty on it. You can be a real stinker that way.😉😘
