We are in the middle of transforming this room from a bedroom to a room with a completely different purpose.

It’s going to be my new studio.

Can you even believe it?

A wonderful, incredible room that’s all mine.

I’m in the middle of planning this workshop (which so many of you have already signed up for and I’m SO HAPPY you are going to be joining me in November).

If you haven’t signed up for KariAnne’s Christmas Workshop yet, you can reserve your seat here.

I have big plans for November and for other workshops and other crafting sessions and I needed a space that I could create from. A space that was bright and light and welcoming. A space where I could close the door and create. A space that was full of more craft supplies and ideas and inspiration than four walls can even hold.

I’m going to show you the entire room reveal on Monday, but this makeover started with one piece.

One amazing piece that I could build the entire room around.

I had given up hope of finding it.

Until.

Until I saw this.

This wonderful, incredible amazing table.

I had almost given up hope of finding it.

I wanted it to have four legs—one on each side to the to make the edges of the table sturdy. I wanted it to have extra leaves in case I ever decided to have a crafting party. I wanted it to be scratched up enough that I didn’t feel guilty painting it.

And I wanted to buy it for almost nothing.

No small request.

So the other day I took all my table requirements and went on a search.

And since nothing says date day more than rows and rows of furniture and outdoor stoves and oversized kitchen appliances and urns and picture frames and pillows and bird’s nests marked stickers for a mere fraction of their original price….

….I brought my husband along for the treasure hunt.

When we entered the doors, he immediately went over to look at the tools and I took off in a full sprint to the back of the store.

First one aisle….then another.

And then halfway down aisle two, I saw it.

You know.

IT.

The thing you have been looking for that you find and wonder how you have existed until this moment without having it in your life.

It had four legs and two leaves and a top that was full of scratches and a surface was cloudy and one of the sides was a little dented.

It. Was. Perfect.

And when I saw it, as we used to say in Kentucky…..

….I almost had a come apart.

I ran down the aisle to it and greeted it with open arms.

Hello beautiful.

And at that moment, I saw something that made my heart beat faster and my hands shake and uncontrollable hiccuping sounds coming out of my mouth.

A CLEARANCE STICKER.

What?

No one else wanted this?

No one else saw the amazing potential?

What is happening in this world?

I immediately grabbed the clearance sticker off the table and accidentally pushed one of the chairs into the side and scratched the side of the table…

….which made me love it even more.

I took the sticker up to the front of the store where I waved frantically to my husband and pointed at it and danced with excitement.

“Look what I found.  Can you even believe it?  Isn’t it beautiful?” I said in a rush.  “And it’s on clearance.”

He calmly turned away from the tool section and smiled.

No words were necessary.

This was not his first clearance rodeo.

We bought it and loaded it into the car and as we pulled out of the parking lot, I let out a sigh of satisfaction and thought to myself how amazing it was going to look in my new studio.

My husband smiled at me across the car.  “I’m so happy you bought it,” he said. “It’s the perfect table for all your dreams.”

I stared at him in amazement.

How had he managed to sum up a shopping trip, planning a workshop and decorating a craft room in eight simple perfect words?

*sigh*

Good thing I married him.

Good thing his eyes still twinkle when I mention the clearance aisle.

And good thing when I was grabbing off clearance tags…..

….he knew which direction we were going all along. 🙂

I just love this story. You are amazing. (And I think this might be the trip to the thrift store you mentioned in our call. I am glad it went so well.) You scored!

"It’s the perfect table for all your dreams" - I think you should somehow write those words on the table!

What a great table!! I live in Plano and Never find any great buys. Where do you shop for furniture out in McKinney? My daughter bought her kitchen table from a woman from McKinney at the Flea Market on the other side of 75.

"a come apart" Priceless. I HAVE to use that in a sentence this week. :-) Can't wait to see your finished product. ( I'd say you have a keeper with those twinkling eyes.) Happy Wednesday Friend!

It sounds like 'a come apart' is the happier version of a 'conniption fit'... Can't wait to see this room!

You certainly have a very special fellow as your husband! What a sweetheart he is! Since my dining room table looks very much like this table, I cannot wait to see how you paint yours. Mine was damaged in our cross-country move and is permanently hidden by a tablecloth.

Can’t wait to see the new space! But this bedroom is one of my favorites! Don’t worry I have pinned it enough I can still use it for inspiration! So tell us what you’ll do when you have guests / boys home? I know you have a plan!

I love the idea of a studio. I have one too, I suppose, although I call it my hobby room. Maybe I'll start calling it my studio! That bedroom is precious though! A little sad to see it go right before the holidays. But a studio will be so used!

What a score! Looking forward to seeing your studio. P.S. Are up able to share the details of the plaid rug in the boy's room?

What a GREAT find! I know that you will make a beauty out of "her". I suspect that you go on these hunts as I do. Before I head out on my hunt, I send out the thought of just what I am looking for. I try to visualize it. It's funny, but when it does appear, I'm excited, but not that surprised, because I always know it's out there, just waiting for me to find it.

Girl you are gifted. I too had a come apart moment when I found mine. The Hubs and I were minding our own business driving down Main St when this table screamed at me to look it’s way. Well you and I both know when it screams you gotta look and good thing I did. There she was. We stopped. I walked right up to the door and asked if she was for sale. The guy said no. He was cleaning out an apartment and I could have her cause she was headed to the dump. We loaded her up. She’s a Seller table with leaves that pop up from the middle of the table. And I waited till we pulled away to SQUEAL.

Love it! The table that is! Also, love your husband's comment about it being perfect for all your dreams! Now that's a supportive husband, no complaining or griping about the purchase. Enjoy that table. I'm sure you will make it even more beautiful!

What a great table and what a great love story. You and your husband are a perfect match! Can't wait to see the "finished" table!

Awl, gosh the way you tell a story, KA is beyond measure. Hug that fella for us - he is the best. I have one of those too. He puts up with so much from me, haha. Love you will have a craft room all your own now! It is better than having an empty bedroom that reminds you every time you walk past it that your wee birds are growin' up too fast to find their own way in the world, huh? Can't wait to see your dream come true. Hugs.

Your twinkly eyed husband is a wise man. He’s lived with you long enough to know the right thing to say. Your table is a great find. I look forward to seeing many craft projects come from your new space. And....I love the Kentucky saying about having a come-apart🥰

  19. Image for Marlene Stephenson Marlene Stephenson

Oh so glad you found your table and you didn't have to go to every store in town. Have fun making it pretty so you can craft on it.

  20. Image for Jayne Jayne

KariAnne, I've been looking for that table too! I'm also planning a craft room right now and I need a drop leaf table so I can save some space when it's not in use. I can't wait to see how you convert that room, I'm sure to pick up lots of inspo for my room on the way!

  21. Image for Sandra Sandra

Congratulations! I love your story telling gift!!... I was wondering where you got those amazing trunks at the ends of the twin beds? They are exactly what we have been looking for. Thanks for sharing.

  22. Image for Vicki Vicki

You are so adorable! I loved how you put this story together and so funny.. You are such a hoot. Yes, we ladies seem to always find that perfect IT and know instantly that it’s the one. And your husband is a keeper for sure! Keep those stories, ideas and decorating ideas coming.

I'm sad to see the cabin/camp/cottage style bedroom go (I adore the beds, ticking stripe quilts, and plaid blankets!), but lookout studio...here she comes!! Can't wait for the reveal!!! xoxo

Oh my, what a great table!! I can't wait to see what you did to that room! Lol, my husband's eyes don't twinkle with clearance sales but glaze over.

Oh my gosh! What a treasure for sure! You made me chuckle when you said “almost came apart” loved it! The feeling of finding the perfect piece makes you want to do a happy dance, and on clearance to boot!

  26. Image for Tammy Tammy

It’s going to be amazing after you add your magical touch. I cannot wait to see how you transform this bedroom to your studio. All women need to have a room of their own. I have a craftroom in our basement. I love it!

Such a great find, KariAnne! That table is "almost perfect" and your dear hubby is "perfect"! I hope you write his great words on the table! How nice that you are going to have a craft room! You can work on things and don't have to worry about tidying up if you are not finished as you can just close the door! You and your dear hubby make such a wonderful couple! God Bless you both!

And meanwhile, my idea of a treasure would be those baskets at the end of the beds. 😉 So glad you found what you were looking for. I might be a teensy bit sad for the room to change. I do like that space! But watching your creativity is always fun.

KariAnne, I can just hear the tremor of joy in your voice as you did your celebratory dance. I can see the glistening in your eyes, and hear the glee in your voice. You made that entire shopping experience come alive for us. I, for one, enjoyed it immensely. Cannot wait to see the room done, but enjoy your journey there.
