Do you ever have a space in a room that you just can’t figure out?

It’s like the rest of the room is ready for the runway and there’s one area of the room that isn’t cooperating.

I get it.

I understand.

In my front living room it was the space on top of the bookcases.

On the left-hand side of the room there are two tall bookcases and there’s about a 24″ gap that I couldn’t figure out.

I tried everything. I tried stacking boxes and adding greenery and putting plates and layering in books. And everything that I tried? It never worked out. It always looked lame. It always looked like it was a little out of place.

Here’s the before of the bookcases so you can see.

(total aside: this is going to be an excellent lesson in why you should never point out things that bug you in a room to your guests—you probably never even noticed it before)

Here’s the before.

I love this room.

Truly.

I think I’m going to share a tour of it on my Instagram today.

It’s bright and sunny and blue and white and it all just works.

Except.

Except for that space over the bookcases. Can you see it? See all that white? You probably may never have noticed it before. Or maybe you have and you didn’t want to comment because we are friends when in reality you were thinking…”WHEN?????? WHEN is she going to fix that big blank space over the bookcases?”

Today.

Today my friend.

Because we are going all Dr. Seuss and going great places.

I found this set of FOUR coastal artwork pieces at Walmart Home. They seriously have an amazing collection of inexpensive, affordable ART. And the best part? There are TONS of blue and white options.

(total aside: is it wrong when me, myself and my pocketbook get giddy when I type Walmart?)

They come already framed and they are really good sized and look super high-end for the price.

Each one works out to be a little over $20 each.

And the prints are so pretty.

Do you want to see them in the room?

Here’s the exact same angle of the room with the artwork on top of the bookcases.

It’s such a subtle difference.

But it wraps the blue and white all the way up the wall and makes the room feel so much more finished.

Here’s another angle so you can see them more clearly.

And another.

They just make the room feel so bright and happy and summery.

I think what makes them work is the white frame and the white background and the pop of blue.

When I was searching for artwork over on Walmart.com I found even more options.

They are all similar.

White frames and a pop of color.

Like this gold octopus.

You can see it here.

Or this blue and white drawing of a shell.

You can see it here.

Or this beautiful gold sea creature.

You can see it here.

Here’s the living room for summer all decked out with flowers and pillows and new artwork.

I’m so glad I went all Sherlock Holmes and solved the mystery of what to put over the bookcases.

I love a decorating dilemma that has an answer.

Especially when it’s blue and white. 🙂

Here are even more inexpensive coastal wall art options from Walmart.

Looks like they were made for that spot!! Everytime I am not rushed and have time to browse in Wal-Mart, I am impressed with how they have upped their decorating game. They have very cute options now at affordable prices!!

Those are too sweet! In one of your before pics I noticed them around the window straight across and I was trying to zoom in to get a better look at them. I do like them better above the bookcases, and I like the plates and other larger art around the window. Also, where did you get your couches? I love them! I have a super long couch with that arm style and am looking to replace it with the same arm style. I may end up just slip covering it, but window shopping is always nice too!

KariAnne I love you...I truly do! I love your decorating style and especially the colors you've used in your new/old house. But I'm the kind of person who sometimes just needs to let their eyes rest on a piece of blank wall for a moment or two (or maybe even three). So, I love the room now, but I loved it even more before! Just saying!

Vicki, I think I'll leave them up year-round! I have some coral artwork already in there. I moved it to the other wall so that there's coral all around the room! Happy day friend! KariAnne

Thank - you, KariAnne! Coastal decor is my favorite and I love these prints!! Only, ' there' s no room at the inn ' for them... if you catch my drift... 😉 However, I suppose I could be coerced to buy one or two and tuck away for a rainy day. They are PERFECT over your bookcases!!!

I LOVE the prints you selected Karianne!! And I LOVE Walmart and just can't figure out how so many people in my little community snub their noses at this wonderful store. In the end, I WIN! There's just more goodness waiting for me then! LOL And it so fun to watch them drool over something I have and then I get to say... I got it at Walmart! LOL I've a couple questions... You see, I'm crazy about those couches... they are from Wayfair... Yes? I'm 5'4" a wee bit taller than you... but need to know how comfortable are they to sit in/on without an extra pillow for reading or lap-topping or TV watching? Do the backs support you or do you feel you "lay down" so to speak when you sit on the sofas? I'd love to hear your experience. Thanks sweet friend!! <3
