Looking for a creative (and yummy) way to celebrate fall? These easy fall cakelets are made with a cakelet pan and these easy instructions.
// fall cakelet pan //
If you put on workout pants and a workout top and fancy hot pink and turquoise tennis shoes, then put your hair in a ponytail and speed-walk up and down the aisles of Walmart….
….does that count?
Is it almost like working out?
Really.
What if you walk more than 10 aisles?
Isn’t it close enough?
And then? In the middle of my “workout,” look what hopped into my cart.
The CUTEST fall cakelet pan with pumpkins and leaves and acorns, oh my.
Want to see what I made?
Want to see what I created with this pan?
Here’s a hint. I may need another workout after these.
(Total aside: here’s a hint. I may need another workout after these.)

Sprinkle pumpkins.
And they were the EASIEST pumpkins ever.
Guess what else I made?
Wait for it….wait for it.
// fall cakelet pan //
Nut-topped acorns.
I added buttercream icing to the top and then sprinkled chopped walnuts.
Here’s the simple how-to (and all my best tips) for both of these mini fall cakelets.
This is the cake mix I used.
I think any spice cake mix will work, but I love Betty Crocker.
I followed the directions on the mix.

Then I filled up the pan with the batter.
I sprayed the pan with Pam and then sprinkled sugar on the pan. This is one of my best tips my mother taught me for bread, so I thought it might work well for the cakelettes.
I baked the cakelettes for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
One quick note: filling the cakelet pan this full helped round them out. My original plan was to put two of the pumpkins together to make them round, but filling the pan this full helped round out the pumpkin and the acorn. I think it made the leaves too round, though.
The cake mix made 9 cakelets (one and 1/2 pans).

I took the pumpkins (which were my favorite) and iced them, and added pretzel stems and sprinkles.
Here are all my best tips for making these pumpkin cakelettes:
- Remove the pumpkins from the pan (after they’ve cooled). Chill the pumpkins for 20–30 minutes before decorating.
- I made my own icing with buttercream and food coloring to turn it orange.
- I applied one coat of icing, then I refrigerated the cakelets for about 15 minutes before adding the final layer of icing.
- Place each pumpkin over a bowl or rimmed baking sheet before adding sprinkles. This catches the extras so you can reuse them.
- Add the sprinkles immediately after icing each pumpkin. If you wait too long, the icing may form a crust and the sprinkles won’t stick.
- Gently press the sprinkles into the icing with clean hands to cover any bare spots—but don’t press hard enough to flatten the cake.
- I removed the little stem at the top and then inserted the pretzel stems while the icing is still soft.

Next, I made the nut-topped acorns.
Here are all my best tips for making these acorn cakelettes:
- Remove the acorns from the pan (after they’ve cooled). Chill the acorns for 20–30 minutes before decorating.
- For the acorns, spread icing over the textured cap and press finely chopped walnut pieces into it.
- I melted the icing a little so I could dip the top of the acorns in the icing.
- Chop the walnuts very finely so they cover the acorn caps evenly and fill in the small spaces.
- Decorate the acorns over a bowl so the unused walnut pieces can be collected and pressed onto the next acorn.
I LOVE how these turned out.
They would make the perfect gift. I think I’m going to add them to plastic bags and tie on tags.
I made tags for all of us in case you wanted to make them and gift them, too.
You can see the plastic bags I’m using here.
You can see the cakelette pan here.
Whew.
That was fun.
But now I’m spending a lazy afternoon watching Larkrise to Candleford.
I have to rest up from that strenuous workout. 🙂

They are adorable and I know you had to be exhausted from the workout 🤣 Seriously, so cute and look delicious!
Adorbs!
These are so cute, and I bet they are delicious!
Seriously cute! I need to make these for our Mahjong group! And I’m glad you got a Walmart workout! I do that (sometimes) too! 5,000 steps is nothing to sneeze about.
WOW they are so cute ... what a great fall gift to make for a friend Happy Happy Fall, to YOU, from me, Jayne so fun following along with your blog, thanks again for sharing !
THOSE ACORNS!! A show stopper for sure!
My grandbabies would love them!!!!!
Oh my goodness these are SO CUTE!! I would shellac them and not let anyone near them. 🤣 They are adorable!!
These are so cute and easy! My traditional Thanksgiving desserts are butterscotch pie and pecan pie with some chocolate, but wouldn't these be such a cute addition! I definitely plan to make your pumpkin shaped dinner rolls too! If I could just get someone else to cook the dinner, I could do an entire baked goods table 😋 I have been the chief cook for many many years though, and I actually do get a great sense of satisfaction when I pull it off every year, but I certainly can add the rolls and little cakes this year! Will have to get out the stretchy-waist pants though! 🤣
Karianne, Thank you for sharing this “sweet” idea! And the gift tag is an extra bonus! We are finally getting cooler weather here in Southern Arizona! Looking forward to baking again and replacing burnt outdoor plants! I appreciate you and all your encouragement!!
Did you know you can take that exact cake mix and mix with a can of REAL pumpkin only? It makes the best quick/easy muffins! :)
So cute and spiced cake...yum
You've made me hugry now to go get me a snack! These are so cute and look too pretty to eat, but I think i would take a bite anyway. This is exactly what you will be doing when that grandbaby comes.
Such cute yummy treats! And YES, walking is excercising - even walking in the aisles of fav stores. You go girl.
I’m exhausted after your workout!😂 ;)
