Just in case you were wondering?
You help me decorate my house.
Every. Single. Day.
I post my rooms and tell you my decorating journeys and talk about my rooms and my houses and take you on house tours and you listen and comment and give me feedback and maybe you wonder sometimes if I hear you. You might wonder if I listen? You think I might be too busy creating commotions in restaurants and digging through yard sale aisles to find something like this and sitting in the car pressing an imaginary brake to even pay attention.
But I do.
I listen to every single word.
Just last week you helped me figure something out in the living room.
How to add a little sparkle.
And a little joy.
Here’s the living room a hot minute ago.
I found this coffee table at a thrift store and painted it white and put it in the center of the living room.
There was something about it that didn’t work for me. I couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
And then you showed up.
You mentioned that it was kind of big and white and took up a lot of space and didn’t really provide contrast.
You suggested wood.
And dark black.
And distressed.
And glass.
And I listened.
And found this amazing incredible glass coffee table from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart FOR ONLY $80.
I KNOW RIGHT?
(total aside: Before you think it’s too small—-I pulled the chairs back so you could see the coffee table better—it’s actually almost the same size as the wood coffee table in the space.)
Can you believe the difference it makes?
It lets the pattern of the rug show through and makes the room feel bigger.
And a little more sparkly.
It was such a good value for the price and it opens up the space.
I would have never thought of glass.
Until you suggested it.
You can see the table here.
On the other side of the room, I found this matching bar cart.
I actually don’t think it’s going to stay here.
I’m going to roll it over to the other side where the bookcase is.
I kind of took a chance with this cart.
And I’m so happy that I did.
It’s got such a retro feel to it and when the sun catches the light it sparkles and shines. I styled it right now with books, but I want to start collecting vintage bottles at yard sales and adding them to the bottom of the cart.
(total aside: you know you married up when your husband comes in first thing in the morning with the yard sale location report)
The bar cart looks really high end and its such a great value for the price.
You can see it here.
To add a little more sparkle to the other side of the room, I found this lamp for only $25.
It comes with the shade and has faux marble on the top and brass on the bottom.
You can see it here.
It’s the perfect little accent lamp for a taller bookcase.
Or a small side table.
Or anywhere you need a little bit of shine.
Let’s do a before and after from a different angle one more time.
Here’s the before.
And here’s the after.
Thank you for showing up and commenting and making me laugh and inspiring me and making my rooms better places and adding extra sparkle to my day.
And the best part?
Isn’t is amazing knowing that you are always right?
Just like my mother. 🙂

I am so here for all of the gold lately...absolutely gorgeous, per usual. :)
I love! Love! Love! Your beautiful living room, and I agree that the coffee table is perfect and that the room sparkles! Since I’m trying to take in every detail, I wish you had had one angle that showed the room with the fireplace wall in the background. I would love to see how you tied what’s on the fireplace in with your room. I know you are not asking for opinions :-) but if I were you I would take the tall white bookcase and make it look built in, instead of like a freestanding bookcase. There are many tutorials that show how to take a stock bookcase and trim it out to look built-in. This would also avoid the shadow behind it. That is, of course, if you know it’s going to stay where it is :-) Again, what a beautiful room! I know you must be so pleased!
If you look back through some of her posts, she has done built in free standing bookcases.
I wasn't a fan of the Gold, but I'm warming up to it because it really makes this room now!
That looks just perfect!!! I love the gold touches with the blue and white. I love your posts!!
I never gave it a thought but now I see that the white table stopped your eye and kind of became the focal point and the new table becomes a part of the whole beautiful view! Love it! Blue and White are my favorite colors!
I really like your new table and bar cart. Maybe you could add a plant to the cart since it's in front of that gorgeous window? Either way, looks great!~
Are those old Readers Digest Books on the bar cart? My dad had a collection of those when I was a kid and they got sold at a rummage sale when they moved to a neighboring town. Oh how I have wished that I had those!!
My aunt had the Readers Digest books. They bring back memories because I read them all the time when I'd babysit for her during the summers and the kids were napping.
I loved the white square coffee table but times change and your room is looking lovely! The new coffee table does show off the beautiful rug -- a standout!!! You have such good taste and serendipity for finding good bargains for your spaces! Have a wonderful weekend, Karianne!
Love the new coffee table! I liked the old one, but when you look at the two photos back and forth, the new one is a better, lighter fit. The bar cart is awesome! You can do so many versatile things with it. Where did you get the piece of art on top of the bookcase by the sweet lamp that I also love?
I want to know, too.
These are such good deals. I'm tempted to order the bar cart for my dining room. It's so pretty.
And the stepping on the imaginary brake pedal is something I've done a million times :)
So cute, That lamp is really a buy. Hope the yard sale was good. Yesterdays question about the wood slice "flowers" from HL....so mad , my HL does not carry them. City of nearly 5 million peeps with at least 10 HL's...nada. Ugh decor my nemesis.
Love the touch of gold, and the glass. Been thinking of something similar for an end table in my coastal/glam living room. I didn't think about Walmart, but will check it out.
This room is perfection! I'm in love with everything about it!
I l love your living room space Kari Ann. If definitely sparkles with style and personality. I'm off to shop Walmart and see what goodies I can find. Cheers to the weekend my friend.
Love the coffee table but WOW that rug. Where did you purchase it?
Gale, You can get it at Walmart, too! Here's the link: https://bit.ly/2RutJRY Happy day! karianne
What color is the white paint? I'm trying to find a white paint that doesn't look creamy yellow or bluish.
It looks awesome! I believe it makes the light fixture stand out more. Maybe it's just me but love them both!
That price is amazing for the table! I am slow to get on board with the gold. I don’t think it’s for me or my home, but I am really admiring the class it brings in spaces like yours.
I think it looks gorgeous. I met you at the Haven conference, and your speech was the highlight of the event. Your description of the first time you went to Haven was exactly how I was feeling. Your story really made me feel so much batter and your sunny disposition is unmatched. I LOVE reading your blog. You are who I want to grow up to be (except I'm older than you)
Karianne, you never fail to inspire me! What a beautiful transformation! And now I know just what to do to make my living room prettier and dress up the top of my cabinet. So many great ideas! Thank you so much!
Beautiful room, but, your whole house is lovely.
This room looks amazing! I love all the blue and neutral details! Paige https://thehappyflammily.com
Beautiful! It adds a higher level of class and style. Although, it was beautiful before.
I can’t get over what a huge difference just changing the coffee table makes!! All your purchases are stunning. Love the little lamp 💜
Very pretty. But my favorite is the fact that your husband brings you the yard sale report! LOVE that!
Love the additional sparkle!!! Finishes the room!!!! Have an amazing weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where did you purchase the sofas?
You nailed it...as usual! Absolutely shiny, sparkly and beautiful!
The coffee table is just perfect! I like the white one too but the glass shows off your rug and makes it airy and light. Love those stripe chairs every time I see them they make me smile. Love to know where you got the one blue floral pillow on your sofa. All the pillows are great; It s happy place to wake up too each morning.
I just love your living room and your whole house. Blue and white is always so refreshing and adding sparkle just makes it shine! I have to tell you that I had just gotten home today to be handed a box from Barnes and Noble. I wasn't too excited as a friend had told me she was sending me a book. So I figured I knew what was in it. I took my time opening it only to discover that it was yours and Melissa's book! Yes, I now have in my hands "But Where Do You Put the Couch". Did you hear me screaming for joy? Glad you couldn't see my happy dance.....but I did one. Talk about making my day. The book is amazing and fabulous and I will treasure it forever!
I love all the sparkle! That bar cart might be just the thing for my plants that need to come in from the porch soon. Your room looks even more beautiful, and I loved it before!
Wow, what a difference - you went from near perfect to perfection +++
Love the glass coffee table! It looks wonderful. Would you mind sharing where the decorating balls came from on the bar cart? Thx so much for sharing your talents!
The entire room is so gorgeous Nd that new coffee table is divine! What a difference it makes. I have been looking for a glass coffee table and this looks perfect. Thank you for sharing!
LOL. I donated a coffee table just like this two days ago to my local thrift store. It didn’t work for me at all but looks great in your room
Aren't we smarty pants together!!! LOL. I love the glass coffee and love, love the bar cart. Isn't amazing what glass does? It opens up the space but provides a table so you can use it. Yep, definetly a decorating trick that works. I don't think you can make that room more perfect. 😍
Love it!!! Walmart...who knew?!
Awesome!!! :D
I'm wondering about the curtains? I searched your site and couldn't find a link to these beautiful but subtle blue and white curtains. Could you please tell me where you got them?? Thank you!
Where is the blue rug from? I’m sure you’ve mentioned before, I love it. And just might need it!
Love love love the new coffee table adds the perfect bling. Your rooms is lovely!
It is perfection, blue and white my favourite, you nailed it!
This just might be what I need!!!
Love the brass accents - all of them!! I’m so glad it’s back - brass, that is. I need to dig out my brass from when I got married in 1983, because it’s BACK! Walmart has been amazing me lately! And that lamp! I clicked, thinking it would be a Lamps Plus offering, but no! Walmart! Way to go, my Rock Star Friend!
Where are your sofas from? Your room is beautiful!
Round glass, open table for the win. Looks so good, like it much better. Good choice, KA.
Hi! please help...... I so want the rug you used in the office make over but I cannot find it on Wayfair and the directions you gave will not work for me. Love you work and your blog. Thanks!
Love it!! Love Walmart!!! xoxo
I am in love with traveling and can put everything in a bag for 5 minutes. My husband hates our ‘packaging routine’, therefore I usually do it by myself. I totally agree with your list. Medications and snacks are the musts!Omio Coupons
