color-of-the-year

Have you heard about the 2014 Pantone color of the year?

Radiant Orchid.

I wasn’t too sure about it….until I found this fabric and a few others.  Now my mind is spinning with ideas.

I am not a purple fan but I am slowly changing my mind. I am - ahem- a fabricholic. There! I've admitted it out loud. My daughter knows this and chuckles because she wants to start a project and then I drag her to my "supply". I can't go into a fabric store without drooling. It is quite embarrassing. I love that fabric you've got from the Pantone color of the year. Whatcha going to do with it??

Good morning Karianne! Are the cinnamon buns still warm??? I can be there in a jiffy, and I'll bring the hot chocolate...we'll chat and sip, and then make something wonderfully "orchidy" with that scrumptious fabric! Listen for the doorbell!

I do like the radiant orchid, but only in small doses, like in your fabric. I wouldn't paint an entire room with it. Cinnamon buns look so YUMMY!

Great post, KariAnne.... I love the article and blog you featured today! Thank you for all of the help and information you shared for new bloggers, yesterday. I noticed you offer "blogging therapy" here for a fee and I thought it was very generous of you to share so much with us, just because. Sincerely appreciate everything xoxo

That fabric is lovely! I'm really not a purple fan....however, I might wear that color. Can't see it anywhere in my home. But I'm sure you could convince me over those cinnamon buns...are they still warm? Enjoy your weekend! ;)

I love the thistle keeping post. Maybe I should start doing "grab bag of ideas" post too. I might post more often if I did that. Heaven knows I always have about 800 bits and pieces swirling around in my head. I want Instagram photo marshmallows. The Other Marian

May I please have a cinnamon roll right now...with my coffee?? Will have to try the bath salts too! This color is not for me but that fabric is beautiful. I would love to see what you do with it. xo Pat

Wasn't headed that direction either, until I saw that fabric...loved it...ordered! So perfect with my gray pinstriped sheets that I was taking in a masculine design. So now, I've gone a 180. Thanks for the lead!

OK Kari, it's fate. You HAVE TO do something with the "Thistle Slub" pattern. As for purples, I've been leaning towards grays and greiges and purple is wonderful with those. Love Mary Miller's shower curtain idea. We just re-did our cabinets in that room and the "Berry" pattern would be wonderful. I'm already contemplating all the accents colors I could use in towels and artwork! GREAT POST.

I could see using that fabric, because of the blend of colours - the gray balances it - but I'll admit I'm not truly on the orchid bandwagon...my living room wears it's blue toile, cream and blue/white ticking stripes like a french rockstar ;) P.S. I hear that things like cinnamon buns have no calories if you share...;)

What a bunch of inspiration you gave us. Gosh they took your Thistle name.. how about that? I have no where to use it without spending a fortune and recovering my sofa with it, but I would quickly grow tired of it and then next year, if I even had it recovered by then, it would be out of style, IF I had the money to get it in the first place. lol I do like that Joel Dewberry Sparrows Lilac Fabric though and it is not a bad price. And that is a wonderful recipe for the Cinnamon Buns.... I am saving it in an email to myself. Marshmallow photos? Oh gosh, sounds very time consuming to me and then I would not be able to eat them...... grin. I made my own bath salts and forget to use them... sigh, I am hopeless.

Ooh! Pretty fabric! I'd like to do something different for window treatments in my kitchen/dining area (we just completed a kitchen renovation) and that would be pretty--doesn't match what I currently have, though. That's the problem--I see so many pretty fabrics and want to go in a different direction but my house is small so everything in my living/dining/kitchen area needs to visually "connect". If you are coming to Michigan in the next few months you can pop over and advise me! ;) I love the "stop thinking you have an ugly house". It's easy to focus more on what my home looks like rather than what it actually is (or should be)--a safe place, a haven for my family.

Now I have the urge to take a nice hot bath with those awesome salts, with a plate of cinnamon buns and hot cocoa with marshmallows balanced on the tub edge. This post is not good for my waist line - or conquering my procrastination. :)

I LOOOOVE that fabric - so much that I have two couch pillows of it that I bought on Etsy! I am a fan of purple so I am so excited that Radiant Orchid is color of the year. And thanks so much for featuring my bath salts today ;)

I actually first read that as rancid orchid. Glad I was wrong. Also, unlike last year were I felt they were a bit behind the trends, I think they are more right this year. I think for a truly trendsetting color they should have gone a bit more pastel with it. But the hue is spot on, I think. I can't wait to see what you think up!

I was thrilled with this year's color because of it's potential in the garden. So many tulips, dahlias and hyacinths are in that color family. It's making me wish for spring!
