When I was growing up, I spent every summer on Cape Cod.
#bestsummersever
We spent days on the beach with the sand between our toes and evenings with my grandmother sharing the highs and lows of the day over tiny wooden bowls filled with Cheeto puff balls and glasses of ginger ale perched on wooden chairs with hooked rug covers.
My grandmother was fancy.
You would have loved her.
She wore red lipstick, too, and pearls. She drank Pepsi by the gallon, loved to dance, wore cat eye glasses and had the most amazing laugh.
She laughed and the world laughed along with her.
I still visit Cape Cod every summer.
Now it’s my children who eat Cheetos and drink ginger ale and spend days on the beach at the sand bar and nights catching fireflies and playing capture the flag.
And the chair covers from those long-ago conversations at the beach house?
They came to live with me.
I think it was the chair covers that started my love affair with hand hooked wool.
It’s timeless and classic and current and full of character and the one pillow every chair needs. And when I discovered the hooked wool pillows and rugs and chair covers at Chandler 4 Corners….
…it was like I was home.
Truly.
When I saw all that hand hooked goodness, I sent them an email full of 27 exclamation points and smiley faces and told them how amazing they were and that I couldn’t go another day without one of their pillows and could I pretty please with sprinkles on top feature them on the blog.
Seriously.
You have to see their pillow selection.
Like this USA pillow.
Hello Fourth of July.
They also have amazing hand hooked wool rugs.
This one makes me want to sing the national anthem and salute.
Stars and stripes forever.
Or this weather vane sloop foot stool.
And see how the hooking looks like waves?
It’s like a little piece of Cape Cod.
In addition to hooked wool products, they also have a new line of canvas pillows.
I love this red rubber boot canvas pillow.
You can see the rest of the canvas pillow selection….here.
And of course they have chair pads.
Glorious, wonderful, whimsical chair pads.
That go perfectly with Cheetos and ginger ale and of course,
….really, really, really good conversation. 🙂
PS I cannot thank Chandler 4 Corners for sending me the beautiful hand hooked wool pillow and sponsoring this post (please know that all opinions are totally mine/see my disclosure page for more information).
It is an absolute honor to partner with a company with such amazing products.
I’m totally hooked on you. 🙂
(so sorry I couldn’t resist).
Beautiful pillows. Just beautiful. And this from a girl who loves a great pillow! Have a great Memorial Weekend!
Those are amazing pillows and covers - love them all. I love the red white and blue... makes me wish I were American. And your grandmother sounds lovely, wish you would have shared a photo of her - I love looking at old photos from years gone by. So glad you have those memories of her.
They really are beautiful and the first one caught my eye since we have a golden retriever! Sounds like you have such nice memories of your grandmother! Enjoy your weekend! Shelley
"If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air, and quaint little villages here and there, you're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod!" Thanks for "hookin" us up Kah!! [best Bawstin accent eva lol]
I've been wanting an old fashioned feeling kind of rug for my craft room, and now I know where to look! Please tell us where exactly your grandmother's chair covers are living in your home, and if you can share a picture of those and of your grandma, that would be awesome! Thanks, Karianne!
Thank you so much for this post Kari Anne. I had purchased an antique wood chair years ago and have been searching everywhere for a hand hooded chair pad for it. I found a few online, but none with colors that would work until today. They have one with a tree that I think will look great on my chair and coordinate nicely with my kitchen. I have always loved the look of hand hooked decor, I think it adds a lot of charm to a home and the site you shared has a very pretty selection. Have a wonderful weekend!
OMG, Kari Anne! I knew that I knew that I knew (to paraphrase someone who inspires me) that there were handhooked, vintage-y looking, homey-feeling throw pillows somewhere out in the universe. I have been looking high and low for ages for the perfect finishing touch for my front foyer. Everything had fallen into place except that one perfect pillow for my grainsack upholstered chair where guests plop down their handbags. Thank you for leading me there. Happy Memorial Day weekend and the start of summer!
the cushions are beautiful and comfortable, enjoy a nice weekend.
There's something SO cozy and lovely about hand hooked wool! PERFECT! Wishing you a wonderful weekend Kari Anne!
Thanks for the inspiration (as usual)!
We could be sisters!!!! I love the retriever pillow and am heading over to their site now!!!!!!!! Thanks you for always inspiring, KariAnne:) Have a great holiday weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful pillows and other products! Thanks for the post. My daughter lives "on Cape" as they say and I live "over the bridge" in Plymouth. We love the area. Have a wonderful summer!
What a special, enchanted childhood you have had! Mine and my husband's first time to Cape Cod was last June - it was love at first sight for us! I would go back in an instant! On another note - i loved my Grandmother's as well! Even though it was Alabama, in the country, both lived on a farm, i wish I could bring that time and era back! they are both gone now and I am the Grandmother! Now I get to decide what happy childhood memories my grandchildren will have! It IS the best time of my life!
Awww! I bet your grandmother was a real charmer!! Sounds like the little acorn didn't fall too far from the oak :-) I love those blues and reds , they definitely belong in a beach cottage. Your enthusiasm is really catching -- I can't wait to go over and take a peek. I will introduce myself and tell them you suggested I drop by. Do you think they have sweetened ice tea??
These pillows are great! Love the ladybug pillow, will have to put it on my wish list!
Beautiful pillows. They really do make a chair complete. Love Claire Murray rugs also. She does a lot of cape cod scenes. Thanks for the post. Charming...
My husband and I just arrived at our cabin in the Adirondack Mountains last night and I brought a few old pillows from home with me to put on the porch. His first response was " Mountain pillows??" This post will surely be my response!! Love the lodge collection!
They make my heart sing! And remind me of each special pillow and seat cover needlepointed by Aunt Helen...❤️
Oh, how sweet. I have my own special hand-hooked rug story. My mom's best friend hooked rugs for my 3 siblings as wedding gifts. I am a lot younger than my siblings (and got married later in life) and her friend had been deceased for years by the time I got married. But ... "Aunt" Ruth had told her daughter to hook me a rug for my wedding; I, too, have a hand-hooked treasure in my collection. The sweetest part of it for me was that it was important for my honorary aunt to make sure I had a special handmade gift "from her"--she was dying of cancer when she asked her daughter to do this for me.
Love the pillows and especially love hearing about your grandmother. Sounds a little like mine. I love making memories with my sweet grandbabies just like my grandparents did with me.
Love the pillows, but where did you get the chair and ottoman? It's exactly what I need for my bedroom.
Brought back childhood memories of hooking my very own rug for my bedroom.
Very cute rugs and pillows. Love the centerpiece on your dining room table. My Grandmother was fabulous and funny too.
Very flattering blog. I enjoyed reading it. LM
