If you drove by last Tuesday and caught a glimpse of a cartwheel through the windows.
That was me.
Just an ordinary day in an ordinary farmhouse with an ordinary girl in red lipstick and yoga pants with paint on them getting ready for another room make-over.
I’m partnering with Frog Tape to think outside the box and completely make over a room from top to bottom.
And just between us?
I think this is my favorite make-over I’ve ever done before.
So let’s go all Julie Andrews and start at the very beginning.
Because it’s a very good place to start. 🙂
This is the room at the top of the stair case in the farmhouse.
If you reach back into the way back machine you might remember that it had pennant flags and medals and race cars and things that went vrrrrroooooom. Â You can still see the compass holding court on the ceiling and the clock hands keeping time on the wall.
Here’s how the room looked in 2012.
Classic Americana.
But that was when the boys lived upstairs.
Now it’s a girl’s domain.
Twin girls to be exact.
The new design for the room is bright and colorful and involves craft supplies and crafting tables and fuzzy pillows and numbers and letters.
And things that glitter.
And smell like blueberry.
It has a bay window on one end that we are creating a built-in window seat for.
It’s a giant window seat (almost 30″ deep).
There are places for blankets and books and it’s covered with pillows and there’s a curtain at the top to create a reading nook.
And the floor?
Don’t even get me started.
I don’t want to give it away, but I’ll give you a hint.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
I’m up to my elbows in it right now and it involves a lot of this.
And here’s the best part.
When I’m done it and finished and the last fuzzy pillow is in place, it will be so much more than a space to craft.
More than a place to hang out.
More than a place to simply sprinkle glitter.
It will be a space to make and dream and hope and draw and read and listen to music and build and laugh and spend lazy afternoons sitting and watching the clouds drift by.
The best kind of space.
And room made just for imagination to pull up a chair and create. 🙂
PS Â This room is part of the Frog Tape Paintover Challenge. Â More fun details to come about the challenge soon.
In the meantime, you can read all about it and see the other bloggers projects….here.
disclosure: Â This post and room make-over are sponsored by Frog Tape.

you had me at the first image of a clean slate-room! Oh, that floor...my heart is beating a little faster!
What a great room! Now please hurry up and show us the rest. :)
I loved the room the way it was before for the boys...I can just imagine how spectacular it's going to be for the girls! And that window seat? I don't know for sure yet, but I'm pretty sure that will be my favorite part. Can't wait!!!
Good morning KariAnne, Oh what a fun and pretty room this is going to be for your girls!!! It's such a nice big room too...that means lots of possibilities...and you are the queen of possibilities! I can't wait to see it finished... We are having company over tonight and were in "Crisis Cleaning 101" mode yesterday. I am very much intrigued by the paint you used on your girls floor....would it be possible for you to take a quick peek at my post today (no sewing for dollies talk today) and see if you think that same paint might work on my living room floors? Our fixer upper house still has the crummy 4x8 sheets of plywood down and they are rough and grooved from walking on them for years...someday I hope to have flooring but thought maybe your paint might work till then... Thanks so much, Blessings, Jeanne
I can't wait to see it!
Oh my goodness I cannot wait to see this room all girly-fied. Lisa
Oh this will be wonderful for the twins! Hope they let you in sometimes:) Can't wait to see it!!!
I look forward to watching and reading as you share your transformation of this wonderful sunshine filled space. Big hugs, K
Well, you're MUCH too young to be my mom, so I won't get this room, but WOWZA, I am so excited to see what you do with it for the twins!
oh my! So can't wait for the reveal!! A window seat, I LOVE window seats!! And the floor, so excited to see your amazing creation!!
oh my! So can't wait for the reveal!! A window seat, I LOVE window seats!!
Hurry, hurry, hurry - I can hardly wait to see the finished product.
I cannot wait to see what you do with the room!! I love the colors and inspiration board!!
....Oh so exciting! Just wondering....is this room the 3rd floor in your house ...is this your attic? Do you have a 2 story house and then this floor?
Oh I can't wait to see it!! Are you going to give us periodic peeks at it? I am so curious I'd peek in your window to see what you're up to but I'd have to bring a looooong extension ladder with me and that might look a tad suspicious. I guess I'll just have to wait until you invite me over. I can't wait!! Sending hugs -- oops I think I got some paint on me :-)
Can't wait to see this space......what fortunate young ladies!
It's going to be wonderful...and I can't wait to see it!
Fun! Lucky girls, I hope they know how hard their Mom works for them ;) Can't wait to see it when it's all done!
Oh my!! Can't wait to see the room the little Thistles' mom made!! : )
I love it just the way it is - all that light and whiteness! I even love the compass. Please tell me you will put something equally wonderful there. I can't wait to see it! So exciting!
Oh my!!! The suspence of waiting to see the room reveal! So exciting!!!
What a magical beginning or rather continuation...!
Window seat ... sigh. I've always wanted a blanket-ey, pillow-ey reading nook of a window seat in a bay window. Perfect for those days when you need to hide away for awhile.
That room is already gorgeous. It reminds me of traditional Greek island homes, all white wood and full of light. Diamonds on the floor? Can't wait to see how they come out! :)
Can't wait for the reveal!!!! What a great space!!!!
Such a fun challenge..You are fearless and creative and fun and such a great mom ( I could go on and on!) - designing with red lip stick and bobby pins for two very lucky young ladies. Really can not wait to see this space!
Oh, I'm anxious to see the room that glitters! The girls are gonna love it! I'm getting ready to do a diamond pattern floor for a customer! They say, whoever they is, that great minds think alike;) Have a great day Ms. Thistle!
This space sounds like it will be used for the very best things...making, dreaming, hoping, drawing, reading, listening, building, and laughing. Magical!
Sounds like fun! Can't wait to see the transformation!
Best mom ever
Yes, I remember the space with the compass on the ceiling. That was a beautiful room. I'm looking forward to seeing how you transform this room. You have a lovely white, blank slate to work with now and it will be fun to watch it taking shape. Those white wood, slightly rustic floors are fantastic too. I know your twins can hardly wait. Girls rule.
And now I wait with bated breath until such time as I can see this wonderful room completed...I just know your little ones are going to love it! This is the place where imagination lives, after all! :)
Whispering about boyfriends, trying new 'dos, altering clothes to be more "in"....lots of memories will be made in that room. Can't wait for the reveal!
This is what happens when one gets old: The email said you were turning cartwheels and creating a new, probably favorite, room. I clicked over to the website. I saw a white room with (I thought) a crib! For about ten seconds, I thought you were creating something other than a room. ...oh, a staircase...
No Fair....what a teaser. Cant wait to see your next make-over. Such lucky twins to have a Mom who is so creative.
So fun to redo girls' rooms. Ours love, love their window seats! Can't wait to see it! Linda
will the girls share the window seat with me??!!! Love Linda
Hi Kari Anne! So, I know I'm tardy to this little party, but I have to ask.....where did you get the diamond pattern for the stencils?????? They're adorable! The room looks gorgeous! I absolutely love it :) Karen
