Last Thursday was a wonderful, wonderful day.
The kind of day that makes all the other days worth the living.
It looked a little ordinary….
….but it wasn’t.
Not even a little.
Because you see….last Thursday….
….I went from this…..
….to this.
And from this…..
….to this.
Seriously.
I know….right?
It was as if a little summer plopped right down in the middle of my winter and hugged me.
And I opened my weary sweater covered arms….
….and hugged it right back.
And now I want to send a little summer to you. 🙂
So here’s a little bit of summer to make you smile.
Summer.
Dancing through the open windows bringing the smell of sea breezes with it.
Wonderful, glorious, amazing summer with it’s flowers and colors and brilliant sunshine…
….and warmth.
Remember summer?
Me, too.
With it’s lazy days and hours spent reading a really good book and faded wooden planks that crackle under your feet.
Days with seashells and warm sand between your toes….
….and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
For just a few glorious moments….I left behind the snow and the ice and the overcast skies and the never-ending march of winter….
….for the sights and sounds of the Georgia coast.
And for sunlight that danced across the floor.
For lazy days and sunny afternoons…..
…..and the colors and joy of the beach.
I’m back in the snow now.
*sigh*
I think the icicles on the trees actually smirked when I pulled into the driveway.
And I know the sidewalk giggled a little when I almost slipped on the ice.
And I’m writing this post with frozen hands clutching a cup of steaming hot coffee wearing black fuzzy slippers and two-layers of warmth.
But I’m content.
I know that spring is just around the corner…..bringing summer along for the ride.
I know the snow will melt and the days will grow longer and the flowers will bloom.
I know the clouds will part and the overcast skies disappear…..
.…and the sunshine will come.
But until then….
….I’ll hold a little bit of Tybee in my heart.
I can't wait to get to the Outer Banks myself Karianne. I am so............tired of old man winter. Bring on the warm weather! Hope you have a great day!
Kari ann, I think keeping in mind that with each season there is beauty and a time to reflect. I'm more than ready for summer because it will mean our new home will be done! You're such a great inspiration! XOXO
Oh I just wanted to dive right into my screen and roll around in the sun's warmth. These pictures are so inviting, and warm. Ahhhh warmth I am afraid I will never feel warm again. Please remind me of this when I am bemoaning the heat of summer. :)
Oh friend -what a joy to share a little bit of sunshine and summer with you this weekend!! Pure delight, I tell you! :)
I think I could actually feel the warmth! Either that or this cold spell, is starting to affect my brain! Giggling sidewalks...how fun! ;)
I typically delete all the blogs after I have read or pinned them, but not this one - it is a wonderful 5 degrees in the Kansas City area, with 10 inches of snow on the ground, so I will keep this blog and read it daily, until I see just a hint of spring!
If anyone understands....it's me. I am so over winter. I keep looking at the pictures to remind me that summer is on it's way. :)
Just made spring break reservations in Florida. Ohio has been blessed with sunshine today, but the mounds of snow will be here through April. Would love to have a week at Tybee with my sister and our daughters.
What a HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY place to be...the rooms are smiling at me! They are! The colors...the light beams dancing...just gives you that...SPRING IS ON THE WAY feel!!! Thanks for the sunshine this morning Miss Sunshine! Sending hugs!
Nahhh. Warm air and blue skies are a fantasy. Last I checked, we have had over 108 inches of snow this season. And it's coming down right now. And it's cold. At least it isn't windy. I'm living Groundhog Day--it's the same day over ... and over ... and over here. In the movie, the main character improved himself. I think I'm regressing.
Oh I can wait for those days! Warm, not hot, Spring days, not summer! LOL But for now we have snowy, warm sweater days we must enjoy! The sun just came out here....Yea!
Oh how I loved Tybee Island. Was it really warm enough there at this time of year? It is still cold here in Florida or my neck of the Florida woods anyway...... but not bad again today. I have had days of only shorts and tee shirt, but not everyday yet.
I have enjoyed your blog for sometime now...and wondered what kind of camera you use. I am new to blogging and love the quality of your work. What kind of camera are you using?
Oh my I love this and yes a lover of sand and sun! Glad you shared an escape with us... the beach truly soothes and yes has helped me heal over the years. May sound silly.. but things that made my heart heavy especially in the last few years losing loved ones unexpectingly were truly lifted as each day on the beach I let go of pain with each wave I was blessed to enjoy. I am ready for the beach! But I will say snow can bring my heart peace as well. I think the beauties found along the beach and after a snowstorm (or in KY ice storm) remind us of his power and yes makes us stop and slow down and enjoy this beautiful world he made for us. Make this one a good one as I pray to do the same.
What a great description love it always, Before the age lets just say beyond 50 this was even more inviting. At this age now look forward to a little coolness, but of course I am in So. Cal and right now we are in a drought Ugh!. I do have to laugh we are such fickle humans being never can we make up our minds. Thanks again for the beautiful pictures and wonderful sunbathing words. Kymee ;O)
I am smiling thinking you had a great adventure.
Next time you head to Tybee, please let me know. I will be there with bells on to meet you. I am sure you stayed in one of the cottages that Jane Coslick restored. She is such a talented decorator and was so instrumental in saving the wonderful old beach cottages at Tybee. I live in Beaufort, SC which is just about an hour's drive from Tybee. And I spent many happy week-ends at there when I was growing up.
Oh, oh, oh, take me away to warm temps and sand between my toes! Though I have not been to Tybee, we had a vacation home on Hilton Head and could see the twinkling lights of Tybee at night. Must visit for sure. Sheila
Great post on a cold dreary Missouri day.....thanks!
Wow...your splash of summer DID make me smile. My heart got all warm and my soul lifted at the sight of those turquoise floors. LOVELY place. Thanks, Thistle!
Sounds you had a wonderful time. Belive me, I am waiting for the Spring. Thanks for those beautiful flowers. Looking for some colors.......coming soon.
Here in az we are still waiting for winter??? It totally bypassed us. My apple &peach trees won't bare fruit with out enough cold hours. I have iris blooming , trees are buding even the critters think it is spring. Mother nature will eventually get even with us
I have always wanted to visit Tybee! Glad you had a wonderful trip… xx
This is on my list of places to go to, what was the name of the cottage pictured. Thanks Elaine
Elaine, It's actually Mark Kay Andrews cottage. It's called Ebbtide! It has 5 bedrooms and four bathrooms. It was so beautiful! Happy day to you! karianne
Another good one. I always wanted to go to Tybee. I remember first reading about in years ago in a book by Mary Kay Andrews called Savannah Breeze.
This is Mary Kay's cottage! It is so pretty and you can see the ocean!
Me being a Georgia girl, Tybee is one of my favorite places in the whole state......I giggled with delight when l saw the olive bucket turned light fixture, because l did the same thing with mine and l LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! I am so glad you girls had a great sleepover, and you couldn't have picked a more beautiful place to have it. I actually love the beach this time of year, I love to bundle up and walk on the beach :)
So glad you enjoyed Tybee weather with us, it's lovely here again today. I'm sorry you had to leave. It was a pleasure meeting you and sharing stories. I do miss snow, but only when I don't have to drive anywhere in it or shovel it and I can sit in front of the fire with hot cocoa. Have a great week and look forward to seeing your future posts.
Apparently can't spell my own name, hahaha, oh well.....
Amazing! To the lady that hasn't seen winter yet, woman please don't talk about cold! We have had enough up here in the mid-west for a long time...We go from snow to below zero degrees with a windchill anywhere from -20 to -50 below. What I wouldn't give to be a snowbird this winter!!!
Beautiful! So nice to see those bright colors on a cold winter day! We had more snow last night in NJ, my kids had a 2 hour school delay and we are expecting more snow on Thursday! I have had enough! Thanks for the photos to keep me going... -Shelley
Well that was refreshing! What a beautiful beach cottage. I'll have to check out Mermaid Cottages of Tybee Island Georgia for a possible vacation spot. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures, the smell of the beach, and thoughts of summer!
Beautiful cottage! Love the color of the floor!!!~~Ang
So sad I missed it :( Looks like a beautiful spot! Such pretty pictures :)
Even my warm heart is froze this winter.
I love the way you write! Not only do you have gorgeous projects and fun ideas, but the way you write always has me right there with you. Feeling what you're feeling and experiencing what you're experiencing. ~Cheryl https://snaps-of-ginger.blogspot.com/
Tybee - I love that place. It has been years since we had a family vacation there though. This has been a particularly hard winter, weather wise and my health too. Yes, come, Spring, come soon. Thank you for the delightful tour of a place that is calling my name!
I think this is the longest winter in history. It gives a teensy hint of spring and then it takes it all back. This summer if it gets hot and steamy I will bite my tongue before I gripe!!
What a charming place. I have to tell you I was so envious and thought it was your place because of the way it was decorated. I hope to one day have a home on the beach. I'm glad you had a nice escape from winter :)
Ah! Were you with Rhoda? I want spring to arrive! It. Cannot. Get. Here. Soon. Enough!!!!!! Besides the beautiful beach, I loved the olive bucket light fixture and the Fresh Air pillow. I have an olive bucket and that pillow so I am feeling happy....even in the snow. Thanks for the little ray of sunshine!
Yeh but we're going to get another foot of snow before Spring rears it's pretty head..
I love these sweet cottages! The colors are so happy!!
Sigh . . . Just, sigh . . . Needing some summer about now! How beautiful, though! I've always wanted to get to that part of Georgia. I'm so glad you got to go!
It looks so cute....and cheerful....and WARM!! :D
Love the picture of the portable daybed with ticking. I recently found one of these for less than $100 I can't wait to get it done now this is so pretty.
Glad you visited Tybee. Hope you had time to shop in Savannah at the Paris Market, One Fish, Two Fish and so many other places.
I live about an hour away, Tybee is awesome!
Ahhhhh......I saw all your beautiful pictures through Instagram this past weekend.....and was utterly jealous! I hope you so enjoyed it, friend! It looks beautiful!
You made my heart putter patter!!!! Tybee Island is a beautiful place!!! Did you get to go to the crab shack? They actually had a baby alligator loose inside the shack once!! (As per the staff). Hope you had a chance to see Savannah too, it's truly a southern gem. (Although said to be haunted...I did mysteriously have a camera completely start doing its own thing once outside a "haunted" house in Savannah!) I was out of there quick. Thank you for the beautiful photos and for bringing some spring hope.....
Please take me there now :) I just love the way you write. So inspiring. xo Alison
Oh it just looks and sounds heavenly. So glad you enjoyed yourself, KA!! what an AWESOME bright and fun cottage - what a fun space.
A first for me today....I popped a wheelie with the snowblower. If that's possible. I'm new to the whole machine, and this was my first time tackling our 125 foot driveway, where the lake effect snow likes to settle. Done with winter ?? DONE. Thank goodness for snowblowers, and thank goodness for the glimpse ahead to some warmth.
So amazing! Do you know where I can get that painting of the ocean and cliffs?
Ah, lucky you! Who knew an IKEA pillow (on a couch) wold go in a beach cottage with beachy colors? Thanks for sharing all the sunshine and color. I am tired of white with little black sticks poling out!
Just added the Mermaid site to my sidebar, so I can go back to it and dream about an Albertan gal by the seaside! Oh, what adorable little cottages and the price is really reasonable too....thanks for the information! Glad you had a wonderful time away, and you are right,,,spring is around the corner!!
Didn't get to say goodbye to you! What a fun time we had!
Ahhhhhh! I just took a little mental vacation right here at my desk, KariAnne. What a lovely place to escape for a few days. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Wow you were at Tybee Island, my home is only 30 minutes from there.... I would have met you for Tea or coffee! Love the cottage painted turquoise floor Maria
What a great post; wanting for spring weather or even just a peep from a crocus in the snow and ice so I know warmer weather will be on its way. Stay warm and safe. We are expecting a massive winter storm with ice here in Chester County, PA Wednesday evening late and Thursday morning. I am afraid those crocuses will have to work hard to eventually peep through, or maybe they will just delay their spring. Thanks for bringing a little summer to my computer!
This was lovely...thank you for a little piece of summer....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:) Oh and that floor, my gosh, could you hardly stand it....YUM!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU for that bit of summer. I'm currently wearing as much yellow as my outfit will allow to feel the sunshine. Today is the first day in a long time where the high temperature in southeast Wisconsin is over 13 degrees (we have a high of 20 today - HEATWAVE!). Also, I love those pillows!
We went to Tybee Island a few years ago for our family vacation and stayed at one of the beautiful cottages there. We even got to take the family dog and I would walk him around the island every morning. We had such a terrific time and it has SO many wonderful cottages that Jane Coslick puts her magic touch to. Our kids still talk about it.
What a gorgeous cottage.....that floor takes my breath away! My heart belongs in Tybee! Thank you for taking me there, I so needed this right now!
So glad you had a great time at Tybee!....what a gorgeous cottage...one cannot help but be relaxed and the cares of the world be washed away in the sand and surf....
And my blood was warmed just a little as I read your words. Beautiful!
