chalkboard-advent-calendar-how-to

A week ago I created this chalkboard advent calendar for the farmhouse kitchen.

I can’t wait to tell my mother about it.

She will be so all about the form and function combination.

As she always reminds me…..much to her dismay…..I am so all about form…..

….and think function is a little overrated.

But sometimes….every now and then…..

…..the worlds of form and function collide and produce a project that is decorative and fun and makes your heart happy…..

….and actually manages to accomplish a task along the way.

When I posted the advent calendar project…..one of the main questions I was asked was “Where did you get all the ornaments?”

It’s an easy answer….years and years of Christmas parties and yard sales and thrift shops…..

….and my grandmother’s attic.

But in case you don’t want to wait for years to start your advent calendar….

….I put together a collection on ebay to help you get the look.

The idea of the advent calendar is to unclip an ornament for every day leading up to Christmas.

After they are unclipped….some of the ornaments will then hang on the trees.  I’m adding the reindeer ornaments to a tree filled with vintage glitter ornaments and silver birds.

The black and white tags will be hung on the outside trees on the screened in porch with red ribbon.

The tiny church ornament will go next to a collection of bottle brush Christmas trees.

One ornament that I found that I don’t have on the advent calendar is the gold crackle ornament.

Won’t it be perfect next year next to the silver and gold snowflake on the calendar?

I also added plain wooden tags to the collection to add a little color or to create your own ornament for the calendar.

The advent calendar is such an easy project to create and the perfect holiday countdown.

Form and function meeting in the middle…..

….it’s a beautiful thing.

My mother will be so proud. Smile
