Looking for fall porch decorating ideas? Here are some simple ideas to get your porch ready for fall with all the colors of the season.

Knock knock.

It’s fall.

Buddy and I are all about fall are showing up.

I can’t wait. I’m so excited.

In honor of the occasion, I decorated the back door for fall yesterday in the 98-degree heat and pretended like it was a balmy 65 degrees outside.

And then?

Then I shivered and imagined that I needed a scarf and some hot chocolate and there were falling leaves on the ground all around me.

In honor of fall, I thought I’d share all the fall porch decorating ideas and some of my favorite things about the upcoming season.

Starting with wishful thinking.

1. I love the moment in fall when the trees start to turn the most brilliant of colors.

And then?

A few leaves drift down and cover the green grass.

(total aside: when the leaves are covering the yard and I’m raking them? The beauty of the leaves gets lost in the translation.)

2. I love the first crisp fall morning when you aren’t expecting it and you open the door and shiver and step back inside for a scarf.

3.  I love making pumpkin seeds and sprinkling them with cinnamon and sugar and fall porch decorating ideas.

4.  I love driving by a farmer’s market full of brightly colored orange pumpkins scattered across the field and spilling out of the barrels by the road.

5.  I love the roar the crowd at a football game, snuggled under a plaid blanket, and hanging on every second of the final minutes of a close game.

6.  I love plaid anything.  Especially lunch boxes.

7.  I love the crackle of a warm fire on a cold afternoon with a Hallmark movie where the guy saves a girl’s tree farm.

8.  I love the first bite of toasted bread covered with jelly and butter.

9.  I love when the days get shorter and it’s dark earlier and everyone comes home and there may or may not be time for a game of Monopoly.

10.  I love the first time I put on a pair of fall boots and add a turtleneck sweater and walk Buddy through the leaves and tons of fall porch decorating ideas.

11.  I love the colors of fall, the browns and reds and oranges and golden yellows and the beautiful, vivid display nature paints across the skyline.

12.  I love the first warm, smooth sip of coffee and the first bite of warm muffins straight from the oven and amazing fall porch decorating ideas.

Most of all?  I love fall itself.  For all that it is and all that it will be.

This is the season for family and friends and celebration and get-togethers and thankfulness.

And I am.

Thankful that is.

Every. Single. Day.

I second that! I love taking walks in our neighborhood when it's 7:00 at night, but it's already dark and the lights inside the houses shine all warm and yellow like the Hallmark Christmas villages of 1992.... It's like they turn into something warm and inviting once it gets dark early.... ahhhh…. sighhhh.

Hey kiddo, balmy 68 here in Easton on the Eastern Shore of MD. YEA!!!! FINALLY!! As I've said before, FALL IS MY TIME OF YEAR... EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.... and YES, INCLUDING THE TIME CHANGE... 🧭... because then you know it REALLY IS FALL!!!! 🍁🍁🍂🍂 Once again.. ( and no surprise there) a lovely post!! You have such a fluid way of writing.

Oh KariAnne. You say it so well. The moments you so wonderfully describe won’t happen near me until the first two weeks of November. *sigh*. But what a great two weeks they are!! Beautiful porch. ❤️ Balsam Hill.

Oh my goodness, 98 degrees! You need to move to Maine where it's fall most of the year except for when it's winter. And for maybe a week or two in July. It was 50 when I work up this morning. You're hosting 46 women! I think that many women is out of my wheelhouse. And definitely out of my house, which is a tiny cape. I hope you have help and that you're having this gathering catered!

Working on my transitional early fall mantle with a theme of pears, acorns, owls and lanterns.Sounds a bit strange but it is all starting to come together. It all started with a great picture of a horned owl I found at a thrift store. Love your back porch decorations but my outside will have to wait till it cools off and my summer planters stop looking so healthy. We have lots of pumpkins in the garden but they are not ready for harvest. Can't wait to use them on the front porch. We were spared any effects from Dorian here in our part of N.C. but my thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Bahamas and I urge all your readers to donate to the recovery efforts. So much loss.

Ok, Buddy resting on the mat, his little paws together, his reflection on the brass kickplate, all that gorgeous autumn glow??!! Love, LOVE!!!

Oh how I love fall! You'd think I should love spring or summer, since I live with 5 months plus of snow here in Michigan, but it's fall and all that fall has to offer. I just wish that true fall would start right after Labor day and go right up until a week before Christmas! My house if already full of pumpkins and beautiful fall leaves and anything else that says fall. I am so happy to see Buddy enjoying a back door snooze. How's he doing?

Judy, I'm a Michigander too and autumn is my favorite season! No shoveling .... wearing a jacket feels good but you don't need a crazy amount of layers .... and the bugs go away! Plus, it's pretty and I love the smell of the leaves. Besides, we really don't get a true spring ....

Fall or Autumn is my favorite time of year-love the cooler days (unless of course you are in the west or south) and the colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the blistering summer it is such a welcome change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the backdoor autumn fest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love your description of Fall. So question - did you figure out a way to get the Hallmark Channel with your new TV service? Our Direct TV contact expires soon and I'm scare to cut the cord. Thanks

You HAVE to blow up that pic with Buddy and his reflection in the kick-plate, or have it printed on canvas or something! I LOVE IT!!! I'm all-in with your love of fall, except for Monopoly... I have never liked that game.

Yes! There are SO many things to love about fall 🍁 Tonight we have our first home high school football 🏈 game to watch. Our grandson will be performing in the marching band which has been a dream of his since he was a three year old! It brings back fond memories of watching our son and daughter when they were in band...seven years of Friday night football. Fun to see the tradition continue. I always have a new found appreciation for the color orange this time of year. It’s everywhere! Fall is simply stunning.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE today's post and the beautiful fall colors. Maybe neutrals are in but I think they look like autumn in a 1930's black and white Dracula movie.

KariAnne, your Buddy is the picture of Fall! If you had just shown him there at the door it would have said it is Fall. My two Golden Retrievers are also Fall to me. Such gorgeous colors on my two happy barking Fall boys!

Ooooh, that is so pretty! Love it. But then, I was an October baby so I think it's required that I adore Fall! (ding!)

  15. Image for Kelly Kelly

I love your back porch decor. It looks like the cover of one of the fall catalogs I received in the mail! I think I'm going to start decorating for fall this weekend, in my living room. It is so hot here in GA that I need to wait at least a couple more weeks to get my mums. I must have mums and pumpkins on front stoop every fall! They just don't hold up well when it is 98 degrees out.

I had a real attitude about early darkness until I learned from a friend to call it "cozy time." Now when it is dark at 4:00, I fix myself a cup of tea and curl up with a good book. A change in perspective can be so refreshing! By the way, it does feel like fall here. I has been 44 degrees the past two mornings when I headed out to the garden at 6 AM, with temperatures climbing into the 70s as the day goes on. I love this weather. Now if it would only last until December...

  17. Image for Lara Lara

KariAnne, Fall is my absolute favorite time of year...it is so beautiful and peaceful. I love all the decoration...and Buddy! Even though we have never met, I feel like you are my girlfriend! Thanks for being so transparent and real.

Good luck with the party - I'm sure it was FABULOUS! Inquiring minds want to know did you ever find the source of your unpleasant smell? I'm sure you figured it out since you went ahead with the party - hoping for details in follow up post.

Well, fall is not here at my house. Should be 106° today, maybe more. I WANT FALL! But winter is great here, 80° and just lovely! The colors in your decor are beautiful. BUT....I had a red plaid lunchbox that was SO uncool! Maybe “The Partridge Family” or “The Brady Bunch”. But I was so uncool with my red plaid lunchbox. Sniffle....

Your decorations are beautiful. The wreath is so pretty. We cannot put out any wreathes that have artificial acorns or berries on it. The squirrels chew them. We have garlands on our railings and the squirrels have chewed the fake acorns. Thank you for sharing your lovely outdoor decorations. Hope the weather cools down in Texas. We are have a little cooler temperatures in New York. HAPPY AUTUMN Marilyn

Fall is my favorite season so well. What I love to do this time of the year is to buy apple cider, heat it up, add cinnamon to it and curl-up in my swing on the porch with a good book. Today in Pennsylvania the morning air was so crisp and I was standing outside of Saint Martin in the Fields Church waiting to go in and find some great bargains from their once a year Rummage Sale. And did I get some great bargins! They had lots of fall stuff too.
