You know. Something you want more than anything. Something that almost seems impossible, but you dream it all the same. Something deep in your heart that makes it beat a little faster when you think about it. And sometimes when the day is rough and the road is long and the light at the end of the tunnel seems an eternity away….
….you pull that dream out of your pocket.
And in that instant, with your dream in hand….
…..suddenly the world is a better place.
My friend Esther had a dream.
She wanted to take an old southern home….a home with history and stories to tell and beautiful old architecture that had fallen on hard times….
….and bring it back to life.
But she was busy running a company.
And being a CEO.
And living in Canada.
And the dream seemed an eternity away.
And then one day she followed her heart to Alabama and met this house.
A house with beautiful architecture and chippy columns and vintage mailboxes and worn floorboards and high ceilings and corbels and the original fireplaces and a giant front porch.
And….oh the stories that front porch could tell.
Maybe it was the chippy corbels.
Maybe it was the tiny window at the top of the house that almost winks at you.
Or maybe it was that wonderful, incredible front porch with all its tall tales of generations of laughter.
Whatever the reason, whatever the how’s and what’s and why’s….somehow, someway, Esther listened to her heart….
And now the house looks like this.
Knee-deep in the most incredible renovation.
Here’s a little peek at the house that will be.
Here’s the dining room now.
Here’s what it will become.
Here’s the kitchen now.
Here’s what it will become.
Here’s a piece that she bought to go into the butler’s pantry.
And here’s what the pantry will become.
This is the fireplace from the living room.
And here’s what the living room will become.
Esther writes a blog about the renovation and the experience and the house. You can find it here.
You can see all the before’s and the before the before’s in her picture gallery here.
But my favorite part of her journey? Her online webisodes where she documents every step of her journey. You can find them all here.
Here’s me with some of my friends on that incredible front porch.
I’m the one with the blonde hair and red lipstick and sunglasses trying to look as amazing as I feel.
Right after this picture was taken, I stood there on that porch with the wind blowing my hair and the leaves of the trees rustling and the sun peeking out from behind the clouds….
…and saw the dream that was unfolding right before my eyes.
It made me feel incredible.
Like I could do anything. Accomplish anything. Be anything I wanted with enough determination and heart.
If Esther could dream, so could I.
So I left the front porch, returned home, took out my dream and dusted it off and started down the long and winding path of making it happen.
And Friday I found out that my little dream is coming true. Something amazing and wonderful and incredible beyond anything is actually happening.
Dream details coming soon. 🙂
PS So just in case the porch was wondering….
….dreams really can come true.
