Are you ready for a little before and after?

I’ve been working in this room for two weeks and it’s finally ready for its day in the sun.

Let me start with a little background on this space.

This is an upstairs bedroom that no one ever uses. Truly. I planned for it to be a spare bedroom for the boys when they came home from college, but I think they slept in it a total of 2 times. The challenge? There wasn’t a bathroom attached to it and they didn’t like the twin beds. So I reconfigured everything so they had a bedroom downstairs with a bathroom.

And then?

This bedroom just sat.

And collected things.

When we started this makeover we had to move out half the things we were “storing” in here to get started.

So I decided to completely remake the space into a studio where I could work and film and create.

Want to see what it looks like now?

Oh, good.

I have pictures.

Just a few. 🙂

Here’s the room now.

CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IT?

Please scroll up to see the before.

And now?

The after.

It all started with this amazing rug from Wayfair.

I know you’ve heard me mention this before, but I am all about a little Wayfair shopping and their fast, free shipping over $35.

Especially their rugs (like my favorite blue and white rug from my living room).

My house is full of them.

Wayfair has incredible quality and there are TONS of rugs in different patterns and sizes on their website and it’s so easy to order everything with ONE click of a button.

Here’s the side view of the room with these incredible bookcases I got from Wayfair.

They have glass doors that open and shut.

And they are the perfect height for all my books and supplies.

This is the other side of the room.

I painted the table that we got at the thrift store, added these two vintage dining room chairs from my mother.

And put a set of these white chairs on the other side.

They are so sturdy and made of wood and lightweight and easy to move about the room.

The best part about this space?

It’s so easy to film from different angles. I’m going to do one set up over by the bookcases and another set up facing the vintage fabric holder and another set up facing the other wall. I’m going to put my equipment up on the table and start filming this week.

There’s tons of storage in here. Everything stays out of sight in the closet and I keep all my craft supplies in there, too.

I know this is silly, but my favorite thing about this room? It’s a space that’s all mine.

And it’s ready for all the creating and crafting and coffee.

Thank you Wayfair for being such an amazing brand partner to work with. I’ve ordered your products for years and I love your affordability–featuring home updates from $39.

I can’t WAIT to show you all the things I have planned in this space.

Stay tuned. 🙂

OMG it’s beautiful!! I love the way the table turned out, it’s perfect!! You’ve got amazing talent and exquisite taste!! Looking forward to seeing what projects you’ll be working on in this beautiful room!

Lovely space for you. I believe we all need our own place to create, relax, get away from it all or just drink coffee😉 (in my case it’s iced). Have a nice day!

Wow !!!! Beautiful. Such a quiet and calming space where your creations will come alive... thanks for sharing your new space.

When my daughter was a senior in college and headed for law school, she and and I turned her bedroom into my office. It was bittersweet, but we had so much fun and now memories of her time at home as well as of doing this together. Enjoy your new office!

KA ... Love it all! Best things to me ~ beyond the idea of a “room of your own” ... ? Those awesome drapes are still being used! And it’s great seeing one of the big rolling baskets! You have acquired some real *treasures* over the years, and I love seeing them continue to be some of your favorites, too! Such amazing talent and vision you have! kj

Gorgeous space! Did I miss a previous post about the big rolling baskets? I LOVE those!! Where did they come from, please?

Oh, I SO want to craft and share and do coffee with you in this amazing new studio, KariAnne! Love that you have so many set up possibilities for filming, too! That is the problem with my own studio! I have nowhere to film that isn't a BUSY background! I try! I really do!

  7. Image for Sharon Sharon

Gorgeous space, all for YOU!!!! (Though I bet the twins do some filming in there too - ha!) Had to laugh when you said you got all your craft supplies in the closet - girl, you don’t have nearly enough craft supplies!!! Time to go shop.

KariAnne, that looks wonderful! My favorite are those shelves! Are they old ? I enjoy your blog so much! Keep up the good work! 😉 Smiles, Alice

I'm interested in how you painted the table: air brush, paint brush. It looks so smooth and professional. I want to paint some chippy furniture, but don't know where to begin.

  10. Image for Donnie Donnie

Oh, KariAnne, how I would love to sit with you at that pretty table and craft and talk and drink sweet tea.... the room is beautiful, and so much light. I craft in our sunroom just for that reason, but have to carry everything back and forth. Congrats on the 29.? Loss. So proud of you. Your sharing inspires. 💖

I’m just curious as to how many coats of paint it took to cover the blue! Lovely room. So full of light. It will be a perfect studio.

The link for bookcases goes to over 300 pages on Wayfair. Do you happen to have a specific name of the bookcase or else link to that specific bookcase? The room looks WONDERFUL and definitely a fun all to yourself space!

  13. Image for Lyndsey Lyndsey

It reminds me a lot of the office you have downstairs. Do you still have that office? Or is that reconfigured for the boys? Can you believe my nosey-ness?! I agree with some of the other commenters: you must not have the stashes of supplies we do! There is just no hiding/containing them! So while I feel jealous of your pretty space for a second, I know I have a pretty space too... underneath it all...and I'm not willing to part with all of the stuff. Yet.

As sad as I was to see that fabulous bedroom be changed, I am awestruck at how much of a transformation has taken place. What a beautiful eye you have for blending old and new and making this space functional and inspirational. Like everyone else above, please share links for the bookcases and do tell about that rolling basket. What a joyful space to have to do your life's work.

  15. Image for Eve Eve

Love how the thrift store table came out! I am fairly new to your blog. I know you have twin daughters, but I didn't know about your two sons. I guess they don't like their pictures posted!

  16. Image for Pamela Pamela

What a beautiful space. Please do share how you have it set up with your photo and video equipment once you have it in place. I just purchased a boom arm for my tripod but I am thinking I would rather go with overhead gear as it is a bit tricky to get the camera off the boom. Or maybe I need a new camera so the one can just stay attached for videos. :) Since I am always trying to improve my video and photo set up I am always curious what others set ups look like.

Oh, Karianne, congratulations on this fabulous new space. So many good times and creative moments to happen in there! The table is my favorite element: such gorgeous open space, just ready for anything, so INVITING! Best of luck to you!

How in the world did you get the fabric bolt holder up the stairs! I remember how big that thing is! Your room looks great!

K~ absolutely mind-boggling ,RockStar Amazingly, Gorgeous!!! just perfect.. except.. i know many folks turn their books with only the page side showing.. I would think this being your studio, the books would be for reference.. if that is so, I would want the title/spineside showing.. other than that..what a dream studio come true!! Congratulations!!! L~

Simply gorgeous! Perfect space to create. Love the curtains! Wish I had a room like that. I would never leave it. Lol.

KariAnne, Fabulous transformation! Love both versions of this room! Now, where is the Paris metro wall board? Does it still have my name on duct tape stuck to the back? Is now the time for the Paris metro wall board to come to my house? Happy filming, Rock Star friend!!!!! Judith

I *think* the basket is one of the ones that was at the base of the beds .... I get dibs on the other one, haha. I'm not quite sure how a creative space can be so neat and tidy. That's not what happens in my house. Enjoy!

Stunning makeover!! We all need a space that is our own. I think that has become even more important with the whole covid thing keeping so many people working from home. Who wouldn't want to go to work if they had a stylish office like this?? I am also a HUGE Wayfair fan! I've purchased a few pieces from them in the past few months and I can't say enough about the quality and the affordability. And the customer service is top notch! I will be purchasing a rug for my living room from them in the very near future and a huge part of my bedroom redo project will be filled with Wayfair as well!!

  24. Image for Sue Sue

Hi Karianne, love the studio with that rug and bookcases. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the curtains made the cut.

  25. Image for Juliet Juliet

Oh my gosh ... what a fabulous creative zone for YOU ... just YOU! It's so light and bright. I can feel my creativity flowing just looking at it. Excited for all the wonderful projects and videos coming that will be coming from you in your new space. Yay Wayfair! xo

WOWWWWWW!!!!!! You did an amazing transformation in this space! It's going to make things so much nicer for you in so many ways! Big congrats - Wayfair is awesome, just ordered a headboard from them the other day and need to order a rug for the master bedroom next. I am soooo happy for you, KA! Way to go!!!!

  27. Image for Sharon H Sharon H

I love it! But....how long did it take to cover up all that beautiful blue on the walls? My favorite things...table, wing chairs, and windows with lots of light!

Love your Craft Room, KariAnne! It's beautiful with everything placed so perfectly. You will love working in your new space. I really like how your thrift store table looks after you painted it! It's just perfect for your Craft Room! Your bookcases are so nice, too. Once again, you have done such a great job with this room. Enjoy! Have a great week.

  29. Image for PJ PJ

I loved this room before and love it now in its new form. Would you please tell us more about how you painted the table? Thank you!

  30. Image for Susie Susie

Such a beautiful and light filled room! Can you tell me the dimensions of that room? It’s hard to tell size from a photo and it looks quite large. Have fun creating!

  31. Image for Marjorie Marjorie

The room looks great. You have done a super job!! I love it all and the table and as always I love those shirted curtains.

  32. Image for Lynn Mosher Lynn Mosher

Add one more BEAU-TE-OUS!!! I love it! Great job...again! Love seeing those curtains again! Just one question: how long will your room stay like that? {giggle} 🙃😍

  33. Image for Marjorie Marjorie

KariAnne I would love to see the post you had done on painting this table. Would you please refer me to the post. Thank you so much.

  34. Image for Jayne Jayne

I've been waiting to see this because I am doing the exact same thing right now! I'm definitely going to head on over to Wayfair to check out that rug, it's gorgeous! Love how the table turned out too, it's perfect for your crafting space.

  35. Image for Marlene Stephenson Marlene Stephenson

What a lovely area to work in, you certainly can be creative in this room. Be careful and don't work to hard, of course if you do have some comfy chairs to relax in.

  36. Image for maria maria

A room of one's own! That sound so glorious, just as you have designed this room to be. I can only imaging the creativity that will happen in the beautifully designed room. To me the curtains pull the entire space together and blend so well with everything:) Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!

  37. Image for Jan McKenzie Jan McKenzie

HELP!!!!!!!!! I'm looking for the OPI nail polish that you had on in the video you did about your nails. I think you called it a khaki color, but it was a neutral shade. I did watch the YouTube video and it said you would list the products at the bottom, but there was nothing there. Please let me know, thanks so much, Jan

KariAnne, I love it!! We once again have been transferred to “ KARIANNE LAND” it’s a place we all LOVE!! BTW - do you need a buyer for those twin beds? Message me if so!!! 🧡Wen

I have your book and have used it more than once. Great advise! Love love your office, the thrift store table came out so pretty and it gives you so much workspace. Are those the same curtains you had in Kentucky? Yes I have been learning from you since before you moved back to Texas. I would like to ask where you got some of the items you have on the walls in your office. Maybe you could tell us in another post. Looking forward to your next re-do.

I looked but didn’t see information on the drapery. If I missed it I apologize but I would love to find out where you purchased them! Lovely room!

  41. Image for Laura Laura

Love it! It took me 3trips back to this post to read it all! I love the bookcases and your own space and the lighting looks good too! I may have to take one of the boys’ bedrooms!

  42. Image for Linda Johnston Linda Johnston

Love the new space! I did really love the old room too. It's a big deal to change those kids' rooms. I 'm still havintrouble and my son's been gone for 5 years and married for one!
