Does anyone have Miss Manner’s e-mail address?
I really need a little advice.
Because I have a blog etiquette question:
When you visit a blog with a guest post…..who do you address your comment to?
Can you see my point?
I mean, do you leave a comment for the host?
Or a comment for the guest poster?
Or both.
Or maybe just the guest poster’s best friend’s sister’s aunt’s boyfriend’s uncle’s neighbor’s pet turtle.
Do you see what I mean?
The whole blogger post-that-is-really-a-guest-poster-post-but-not-really-because-part-of-it-was-written-by-the-blogger kind of post can be really confusing.
Seriously.
At first I tried writing comments for everyone involved.
I wanted to make sure I was politically correct.
First….I wrote the host a comment……and then the guest poster a comment…..
…..all the while trying to be pithy and witty and clever.
And two paragraphs and “War and Peace” later, I had somehow lulled all parties involved to sleep.
So I have put a lot of thought into this.
And after hours of consternation and weeks of deliberation…..I think I have come up with a solution.
One that solves the problem in a time-efficient manner.
I’m taking my cue from US Weekly and the National Enquirer.
And going all name combination on them.
As in Brangelina.
Or Tom-Cat
Or how about Bennifer.
Name combination…..I’m telling you….it’s where it’s at.
So…..if you stop by Sheri’s on Monday and see my guest post.
And if leave a comment for SharKari…..
……I’m sure Miss Manners would approve 🙂
PS For anyone even remotely interested….here’s the Cliff Notes on the stenciled basket project.
I bought it at a yard sale.
And stenciled it like this 🙂
your corner is so sweet, from the lampshades to that cute chippy chair and pillow:)
Anyone lucky enough to have you as a guest poster, would accept what ever comments come their way. You really do make me laugh. we all need more of that.
If in doubt, ask the cat. They will humour your question by licking their.....behind...then boldly look you in the eye. Thus confirming that what ever you are doing is right. Or you could go old school and opt for the posh hyphenated name combination. Kari-Guester-Wood....darling.
Ha! I would love to be part of SharKari....or we could just be Scary...I mean SKari...
I like your idea. Really, I do. We all need a bit of humor in our day. On a more serious side, I'm just happy when people comment. What is the deal with popping in to see someone, and not saying hello? It doesn't take much time. Love this little corner of your home, KariAnne. Why haven't I ever brought in any of our crepe myrtle? I think I must be short on clever.
At least Shari's name isn't Harri.....LOVE your black finishes♥
Love the corner vignette. Your cupboard is just the size I'm looking for. Could I ask where you purchased it.
I like to leave a comment for the host on the blog and then pop over to the guests blog and leave a nice comment there as well!
I need this pillow! If you find it missing, I don't have it! Pillow envy! Seriously, I don't know! I would try to leave both on comment. I love this area; your black pieces are gorgeous!
I guess you leave the comment to whomever you want. Cute black distressed chair and those pretty blooms. You and I think alike for staging our photos. You will see in a future post.
Hel-low, Miss Manners here - the proper thing to do, in cases such as this, is to leave the comment love all around. First, one must thank the Blog Host for giving one the opportunity to read such a delightful guest post. Then, one must immediately visit the guest post-ers blog and pour on the bloggy comment love for the amazing guest post they wrote for us at Blog Host. Of course one will write several details about what one liked the most on said guest post. Because in Blogland, page views are everything. Now all you darling bloggers be sure to write Miss Manners any time you have bloggy etiquette questions. ;)
This is so darn cute! So darn Clever. Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting on the Guest Post from Mom 4 Real that I was hosting. ;)
Such burning questions and delicate dilemmas. Can you please tell me,is it bad blog etiquette to read and not comment? Do bloggers appreciate one's comments every time they blog? Or, do they roll their eyes and think," oh,her again?" I strive to be a well mannered blog follower, really I.do. Is there a blog etiquette blog that I should be following? Thank you so very, very much. ( see,I do have some manners)
That's a great question......any answers? I've wondered that, too!
I know you weren't asking me, but I'm just throwing my manners out the window to answer anyway. ;) Personally, I don't think it's bad manners NOT to comment. I think everyone should comment if they feel inspired to. And as a blogger, each and every comment makes me smile, I can't imagine ever being annoyed by comments. A blog etiquette blog...I love that idea. :D
Those deep philosophical questions always stump me - you are wise like Yoda! Kelly
Not that I'm an expert, but I leave comments for both -- just seems like the bloggy mannerly thing to do. But what do I know? I overuse exclamation points (!!) on a regular basis. :-) Headed to leave a comment for SharKari -- xo hm
Love the basket but I need those lampshades!! Did you make them too?!?
Totally agree that it's confusing... but I think we should go with Sharianne.
That's what I was thinking! But I also like SKari. I'm torn now on which one I will use. :)
Oh. I've never thought of that before. Guess that, if I had to make a choice, I'd talk about the guest blogger as if she weren't even in the room. I'd tell the blogger that I enjoyed the guest blogger if I did enjoy the guest post. It's actually a concept that I don't always understand. I do understand interviewing another blogger. Those posts are great!
you crack me up every.time! I'm in love with that bingo pillow (& the black chair, and the baskets and those lampshades) ummm I guess that would be everything! but REALLY drooling over that pillow!
I love that you dont overthink anything ; )
OH!!!! I agree with Shari!! Go with SKari!!!! That's hilarious. On a side but maybe completely unrelated but then again, is sorta related note...I'm making a pillow today out of an old t-shirt that belongs to my turning 11 in two days son. (I'm actually making three) This one says, "If you think I'm scary wait till you see my sister!" lol So, go with SKari! :-)
I'm down with the name combo - I've often wondered the very same thing! ;) I want a stenciled basket now!
As I have extreme commitment issues, I can never commit to whom I am addressing my comment in these cases. I just throw it out there and hope that someone will retrieve it from cyber space :)
Another beautiful, inspiring spot in your home. Love the basket, love the black cabinet, love it all. Can you please, pretty please move up to Canada and become my bosom buddy, so I can maybe gain some of your awesome style by osmosis? I assure you, us Canadians can be a lot of fun =)
hmmm...food for thought here. I go to the blog who is guest posting. Love your basket:)
Is that a Longaberger basket you painted numbers on?????... Well, I am not sure about Miss Manners, but Emily Post thinks you are spot on!!...You are so funny....Adam Sandler's writers are giving you a call!!...
haha! Love it! I like your solution! When I comment on a guest post if I remember right I address hmmm. .. who do I address? Not sure....now you have me thinking girl! OK- I am sticking with your name combo merge idea! I like that!! haha! Cute Pillow!
Both - I like to comment for both the host and the guest by name!
Oh this one really made me laugh and laugh! Did you purposely leave out the extra "i" so that it wouldn't be ShariKari?? Given your thesis I immediately thought of harikari and how you were (sort of) damned if you do and damned if you don't (well not really but it made me laugh anyway!). I don't think anyone really cares how it's done, they just want to see comments. After all, the relationships and the sharing is why we all blog, isn't it?? I love that basket. Cheers!
actually it's harakiri but I guess I've been pronouncing it wrong forever!!!
I usually leave comments for both, especially if my interest was peaked by the guest poster -- I usually want to visit & check out more their blog!
Short of SharKari, in my ideal world I address comments to the host, then go to the guest's blog and comment there. But that assumes none of the children are upset/hungry/tackling each other/cranky/need to nurse/whiny/tired... you get the idea. I can't wait til school starts again! Jessica
LOL! Love your posts Karianne! I write the comment to whoever strikes me the most! Sometimes I even hop over to the guest posters blog and leave them a comment there. I try to keep it short - you know - so as not to put them to sleep! LOL!!!
I have had this problem as well and now I address both the hostess and the writer in a signle comment on the hostess's site. And I think you are always witty. Traci
You are such a RIOT! Lol. xo, Shannon
Hee! Hee! Your are so cute! I LOVE the Bingo pillow. Where in the world did you get it? Or did you make it? I am behind on my blog reading, so if you posted about it, I must have missed it. If I found a Longaberger basket at a garage sale, I might stencil on it, too. I just couldn't bring myself to do it on my full-priced (YEEKS!) baskets.
Ha... ha... love it! I can't wait to see your guest post on Turn Style Vogue on Monday!
Hmmm... I usually just address the owner of the blog, unless it's something I really like and then I'll visit the guest poster's blog and comment there too.
Lol! Personally, I leave a comment to the writer of the post, but that's just me...love the basket!
That always stumps me too! That bingo pillow is adorable!
Well Shari Kari sounds a lot funnier than any I've done. At least till I'm asked to post on Pissy's blog. ~Bliss~
You are too funny!! I reply on the posters blog...If I'm particularly excited about the guest, I'll post on that one as well...
I don't know if there really is a rule or not. I usually post my comment on the blog that has the post I'm reading from (even if it was written by someone else). Usually, the guest poster can just hop over there and read the comments for themselves.
I can think of at least two circumstances when I left a comment for the guest-host on the HOST's blog, and the guest-host responded! So.... perhaps it is correct etiquette for the guest-host to keep her eye on the comments and respond. Perhaps? =)
I guess you could address the host or the guest. LOVE that pretty corner!
I usually comment to the blog owner and I also try to follow the link to the guests blog. I then leave a comment on their blog too. I think that is the reason for hosting, to meet new bloggers at your regular stops. But I am no Miss Manners, lol.
Good grief, what happens when someone guest posts for us..would they become VanKarther (that's Vanessa, Kari, Heather) in case you didn't know. ;) I usually address my comment to the guest poster but within the comment thank the hostess for having the guest. Heather
As always, hilarious. I will have to look back and see who I have had guest post and vice versa. Oh the fun we would have with our names!
Oh my gosh, I know exactly what you mean!! And I know I end up using the wrong personal pronouns ... should I say 'your' or 'their' or do we need a combo to go with the combo name, maybe?!?! I'm just getting back from vacation, have quite a bit of catching up to do on what's been happening at Thistlewood.
That's hilarious. SharKari it will be. I do like that basket though and the Bingo pillow so I'll check out how you made them.
Fun post. Fun thoughts. But I must say, the most brilliant piece in this post, is hanging on your wall between the two lamps. Instantly caught my eye and made me gasp! I love simple, yet stately looking wall decor. I was visiting w/ a friend the other day and she had an antique, (painted black), mirror frame (no mirror just beautiful detailed antique frame) hanging on her white (painted) rock wall. It made the same statement as your piece does. Simply brilliant! ps Can't wait to check out your guest post!
And the basket.....at a garage sale....that was a steal. You doooo know what you have, don't you?
