I love chippy, distressed, worn and weathered wood signs.
I love creating them.
I love painting them.
I love hanging them.
What do you think that says about me?
Do you think it says I need direction in my life?
Do you think I need to be reminded to go places?
Or do you think that I need advice on proper hygiene?
I think I like signs because they tell people a little about who we are.
Or remind us of where we have been.
Signs can also tell people where we want to go.
I am working on a new sign.
It’s going be painted with my mission statement for this year.
“Life is a series of moments called……now.”
This is how I want to live my life in 2012.
Now.
In the moment.
No regrets.
Sometimes we consume ourselves with the destination and forget about the journey. I want my journey to be purposeful and authentic and I want to experience every step with my arms wide open. I want to embrace the me that I am at this very second in this very place.
And I’m so glad you are here at this place, at this time, on this journey with me….

I like signs too. You have a lot of nice ones! I like the first one you showed. Did you actually measure the miles to each destination from you house? That is so clever! I'm assuming those are 2 places that you like to go or want to go. Looking forward to seeing your newest one.

Karianne...I am "borrowing" your mission statement for a dear friend of mine..It is so appropriate..Hey, maybe I will challenge the impossible and make the sign for her..! I heart, heart with all my heart..your signs..I am drawn to them each time I go into antique shops...I have been on a quest for some time to find the appropriate one for a very large space over a bank of french doors on a 16 foot tall wall... I bought my first text sign a few months ago and love it. I've been thinking about getting a projector so I can make my own... just add it to the list of projects in the back of my mind. Looking forward to your tutorial.

Signs have been a part of my life since birth. I grew up in the sign business, so I hear you on the old ones. I made an old sign myself years and years ago, it still hangs above my French Doors in my living room. They do indeed remind us of special places we've either been, or want to go.I think old signs remind us of more innocent times. When signs were hand painted, there was a real artistry to sign making. Yours are just wonderful.

Sometimes you read a blog post, and there is something that just jumps out and grabs your heart.... This is one of those times. That quote, those signs....sigh. Beautiful. And I need to live more in the moment, not in the boxes that still need to be unpacked, and the stuff that needs to be done. I think they show how creative you are, and that maybe you like things that look like they have a history, and things that guide you, or things that you make that combine all of those. -Or, maybe you just like words?! ;-). I adore old signs, or old looking signs, and I have signs hanging in my house of some of my favorite cities. And I have a sign over the hubs office made of old printing blocks that says GO FLY. He's a pilot, so he says that a lot. "I have to go fly...". If I had an old farmhouse, I would certainly incorporate more of them into my home decor. I feel like I can't pull it off very well in a California stucco home. :-( Someday, maybe I will have a wonderful old farmhouse filled with great old treasures. I love your home. And all of your signs. Do you have an Etsy store? If not, maybe you should open one. xo -Lisa
