winter scene

This was the view out of my front door last night.

Hello snowmagedon.

It was really pretty and romantic and sweet and snowy and Pride and Prejudice like….

….for about five minutes.

Until.

Until we tried to pull out of the drive way to get milk and bread and realized that our four-wheel drive was stuck and spinning its wheels.

And then all of a sudden a sentence I never imagined I would ever say came out of my mouth.

Cat litter….I love you.

DIY rope mirror project

This mirror started life as a tray.

I know….right?

Simple and easy DIY found here.

master+bedroom+design+board

Loving this design board put together by my friend Brooke.

She’s redoing her master bedroom with some creative and fun ideas.

And she’s using some of the indigo fabrics from my fabric line.

You can see all the fabrics in the collection and where to buy them online here.

peanut-butter-ice-cream-1

I know its random to be dreaming of ice cream in the middle of snowmageddon.

But I couldn’t help it.  It only has three ingredients.

Simple recipe found here.

Joy-Full

I want to give this post a standing ovation.

Yes.  I want to tell it.  Yessssss.

Especially this incredible wonderful last line….”Joy is my middle name.”

And in random news this week:

I’m using Mise en Place next time I cook.

A manifesto to live by.

Love this home tour.  It makes me miss Cape Cod.

Super cute Valentine’s DIY.

I think I’m going to start collecting these.

And oh how I wish I had been invited to this dinner party.

KariAnne, Thank you SO much for sharing the "Joy is My Middle Name" post! Oh, how I needed to hear...er..read that message today! (It reminds me a lot of your "Jump" post. :-) ) I have been praying about just such a change, and I definitely felt the good Lord's nudge today. Stay warm and safe with your sweet family. Snow like that is the stuff that wonderful memories are made of. :-)

I always enjoy your Thistlekeeping posts....I enjoyed the post about collecting wooden spoons and kitchen utensils! I was always seeing wooden rolling pins at the thrift stores, so I just decided one day, after finding one with ornately carved handles, that I was going to collect them! And it's been fun....I'm thinking wooden spoons and kitchen utensils would look great displayed with them! Enjoyed your snow pictures.....we are in the part of Virginia that only received rain! Stay safe and warm! Blessings to you, sweet friend!

Oh KariAnne!! Please be careful! I remember when I first discovered you and one of your posts was to a desperate trip to Michaels for necessary items. You got out of the truck and your feet slid right out from under you. I remember the little things. Ask me what I did last week?? I dunno -- I'm sure it was something terrific :-). Have a wonderful weekend and keep warm! Hugs!!

Well, it's still snowing here. But I am happy to see the sun follows the storm. How did I miss that post from Ashley? Fab. Thanks for putting it out there. If you want to start your collection now, I have several antique wooden spoons that shocked me by not selling at Lucketts. If you want one for your birthday, you'll have to send me your address. And don't fell bad about getting itchy feet when stuck home in the snow. I HAD to have some MMS Bergere milk paint before it started snowing. I don't even know what I will use it on. But it could not snow without me having that paint. Go figure. Have a happy day friend, The Other Marian

That snow looks amazing! We actually even got a flurry here all the way in Florida. It was a few random white specs that flew past my face when I was near the beach. It could've been sand...loved all the features today. Happy weekend friend!

We too are snow-bound! Such a change from San Diego, but loving it! I think it's exciting when we have something playing in the back of our mind and then we see that unexpected item that will make it all come together. Love the abacus!

As long as you have your computer during the snowmageddon...then we're all good:D Hope you got your bread & milk! And make sure you have a secret stash of the 3 ingredients to make that ice cream! It looks yumm-i-licous!

Beautiful abacus - looks so vintage with the wood and finishes you chose. I LOVE wooden spoons and would recommend starting your collection forthwith! It just makes me happy to stir a bubbling pot of oatmeal or steaming kettle of vegetable soup. A bonus is that my husband is now making spoons for us and for gifts. It makes them even more special. I am trying my hand at wood burning but am still a beginner. I did manage a couple for gifts this year through.

Thank you for your snow video. I needed that in S. FL. As for Joanna's dinner party....you were there and so was I (in my mind)...we just weren't pictured! And we loved the herb chicken and I added a squeeze of fresh lemon to mine and we all toasted Joanna on opening the Silos and she told you how much she loves your blog and could you help her design her next fixer upper...And you said of course! And she said it could really use some smocked curtains in the dining room just like yours ...

What beautiful pictures of the snow. We got quite a bit of it here this weekend too. Jonas didn't disappoint! Have a great week!

MANY HAPPY CONGRATULATIONS on having your abacus project featured in Country Living, KariAnne...that is sooooooo exciting!!! I wonder if it's too late to scout out a copy of the magazine...I'd love a copy of it and I'd also love to make one of these, but I'd need a lot of help with it as I'm no good at building stuff. As always, you continue to amaze and inspire! Oh yes, I would be over-the-moon receiving an invitation to a dinner party at the Gaines' household...what a stunning table she has set here and I love that she doesn't find shame in making things easy here-and-there by using some store-bought foods and just spicing them up a little to sort of personalise them. How I wish I had just one-tenth of her talent or yours, for that matter! I love wooden spoons, too...actually, I love wooden tools of all sorts and did have quite a collection of them for many years until we lost them in the fire last year. I had an old wooden toolbox which I kept much of my collection in, as well. I'd love to see your wooden spoon collection once you get it to the point of sharing! I dearly hope you and yours are surviving this snowy winter okay! Yes, cat litter is a godsend when you get stuck...I always keep a bag of it in the trunk so it's handy. I also must add that your yard is sooooooo gorgeous dressed in winter whites...I'll bet it gives you goosebumps when you wake up to such a magical sight! Thank you for sharing it with us!
