Random thoughts on a sunny spring Saturday:

1. I am sitting here typing and listening to Buddy snoring.  It’s amazingly calmly and oddly snorty all at the same time.

2. I’m in the process of sanding down all the furniture pieces that I painted once upon a time.  Sigh. I found them and they were wood.  I didn’t like wood, so I painted them white.  And now?  Now I’m taking them back to wood again.

3.  I cleaned out a closet and three drawers this week and donated two bags of nonsense to goodwill.  What is it about closet clearing out that makes me so happy.  It’s almost as good as chocolate cookies.

4.  This was a great week on the blog.  We took a spring tour and learned about the easiest and cheapest ways to line curtains and discussed decor hacks and why they make the world go round.

4.  I went to Nashville this week to speak at an event.  It was all about decorating your home on a budget.  The more I decorate the more I’ve decided that it needs to be on a budget.  Truthfully?  I’ve spent some money on decorating in the past and not spent some money on decorating in the past.

And guess what?

It all kind of looks the same.

Budget for the win.

And now?

I found it interesting that you are sanding down furniture that you had previously painted white. I applaud you in your new found appreciation of plain old wood! Too many pieces of beautiful wood furniture were painted in the need to keep up with the trend. Certainly not every piece of furniture deserves to be saved from the paintbrush and might receive a new life if it were painted. Hopefully more people will save themselves the agony of refinishing a piece if they have second thoughts. I enjoy having a painted piece of furniture in my decor as an accent here and there, so I am not totally against it. I am just saddened by beautiful antique pieces being covered by paint because of a trend.

I love hearing my dog snore... Great recap with so many inspiring ideas! Yes, I think wood stained or "brown" furniture is becoming popular again. I am glad I still have quite a few pieces. I say we hit those thrift stores before everyone realizes they are selling too cheap! Enjoy your weekend! Shelley

Ha, I been feeling the same about my wood pieces, but the thought of sanding them down makes me exhausted. Please share when you’re finished and gives us all some inspiration to get moving! For now I think I will do the cutting board project from boxwood and spruce ;) Rachelle

You struck something there. We all want to see the sanded furniture because it’s been on a lot of our minds! I do love good wood! Though painting could bring all those different woods together cohesively. Please share when you can what you are going to do with the pieces. Does this mean the kitchen hutch too? Always coveted that piece!

Just finished my spring cleaning for my home today. Finally cleaned out my linen closet. Had so many decorative towel sets, Choose two colors, blue and beige towel sets to keep, gave all the rest away. It felt so liberating! Next week it's my closet and the coat closet. Can't wait to get started Happy Spring!

I love traveling to National Parks. They CAN be incredibly crowded--it's nice to read about some of the lesser known ones. The past 2 summers we have traveled to Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Tetons/Yellowstone/Custer National Parks. We made it a point to stay on "Michigan time" instead of adapting to the local time zone--that way, we hit the parks much earlier than most of the tourists and enjoy a relatively quiet visit. Sometimes it makes eating lunch in a restaurant a little tricky, but that's a small price to pay (and typically we pack lunches and eat in a scenic location on a hiking trail, anyway!). I hope you get to enjoy a great vacation with your family, KariAnne!
