This week I spent an afternoon at the HGTV Smart House.

And I’m still dreaming about it.

During my tour…..I learned several things….

…..the least of which is that the house is truly smarter than I could ever hope to be.

There were remote control showers and remote control toilets and blinds that could be programmed to let themselves down and a dog door that opened up all by itself to let the dog out.

You can click here if you want to hear all about how smart it is.

But…..really….can we talk about the decorating?

Okay…..I’ll go first. 🙂

So many ideas to discuss….so little time.

First….the color.

There’s a lot of color in this house.

Vivid, wonderful, joyful color…..

….like this.

And this.

I know….right.

These are the kitchen cabinets.

And yes….they are blue.  It’s a Sherwin-Williams color….Indigo Batik.

Brilliant idea number 432….add moldings to a wall and then paint them blue.

And then add some yellow.

And a planked ceiling.

No worries…..I’m on it. 🙂

Can you see the nail head dresser next to the window?

It had a textured covering with nail heads and a raised circle nail head pattern and it was literally about the seventh color of blue in the room.

There were layers and layers of different patterns and hues of blue.

My favorite was the fabric used for the curtains.

I totally wanted to go all Scarlett O-Hara  and party like it was 1999.

decorate-with-color-master-bedroomCan we have a moment?

Because that’s what happened when I entered this room.

This photograph does not even do it justice.

It’s graphic and contemporary and classic and incredible….all rolled into one.

decorate-with-color-brown-and-whiteThe lamp?

The blinds?

The textured curtains trimmed in chocolate brown?

Where do you start?

decorate-with-color-closetMaybe with the closet?

It came with shelving and closet space and a rod that you used to hang seasonal clothes.

And an ironing board and iron that I ‘m sure are smarter than I am.

decorate-with-color-orangeBrilliant idea number 537….the wall treatment in this room.

The wall was layered with pieces of wood and stripes of paint.

It’s an easy effect you could create for under $100.

decorate-with-color-blueThis was the built-in space at the back of the room.

The bench is built around a twin mattress with bookcases on either side.

Great idea for extra storage.

decorate-with-color-redEvery room had ideas that I want to re-create in my own home.

It is a house that lives so much larger than its square footage.

The colors, the textures, the layers of depth to each room….inspired me at every turn.

And besides all that…..

…it is absolutely brilliant. 🙂

PS  In the super exciting news department…..I’ve been at Better Homes and Gardens this week for the final round of the competition.

I can’t WAIT to show you what I designed while I was here.

Tutorial and details on Tuesday.

Happy weekend rock star (you made it)!

Karianne! This is one exciting post! I am right there with you loving all the coor and the cool trendy doo dads. Even though our house is 200 years old I too am going bananas over the cool trendy modern lamps, etc @ Marshalls, TJMaxx etc. I love the gold mirror in the bedroom featured here the sunburst looking one. I've been eyeballing that type for a year. I love the modern lamps, and mirrors, so you know what? I'm moving away from all the white that I dearly love and will keep but some of the rooms in this hosue are getting some color! I just put up some new pinky/peachy curtains in our bedroom with a mirored chest!!! Yes MIRRORED! Finally purchased one. Oh and a fat chunky mercury lamp to boot! ( I already have a vintage wedding cake chandy hanging in our room) It's glam all the way. My hubby doesnt mind so I'm lucky there. Karianne, I don't think I can wait until Tuesday to see your wwonderul work of art!!! Gosh, why do you torture us like this???? Why?.......Why? ........Whhhhhhy??? said in my best Nancy Kerrigan voice. Sorry, perhaps a tad too much coffee this morning. Christine

Simply, Karianne, Thank You for walking into my life! I am a broken record, buuut, your sense of style, humor, writing color our world and make it so much brighter. I could totally hang with you one day, carrying coffee in our mugs, discovering new haunts and laughing till it hurts. Make it a Blessed Day!

These are some of the most beautiful photos of the Smart Home I've seen and I've seen all the official ones and as many of the Blogger Vistors' photos as I can find! You've done a great job editing cropping and captioning them. I love that you got a view of the back side of the master closet in the mirror behind the ironing board, so there is more shelving and drawers I assume back there. You did great! Thanks for sharing such an honor.

Beautiful!!!!! Blue and yellow - IS there a better color combination? It just makes me think of springtime! I so want to go and tour the Smart House - especially since it's just down the road!! I just realized this the other day! Three favorite things - the CURTAINS (oh my!); the rug in the master bedroom (I just want to squish my toes in it and then just LOOK at it!); and the IRONING BOARD (it speaks for its self!). Yep, this house is smarter than I'll ever be, too! ;) Happy SPRING! (as we dodge raindrops yet again - but isn't the grass getting to a nice shade of green?!)

"My favorite was the fabric used for the curtains. I totally wanted to go all Scarlett O-Hara and party like it was 1999." What a great laugh for a Friday. We did make it RockStar. And it wasn't necessarily the easiest week. But it is all good. xo

I love this house!! My favorite is the bedroom with the geometric roman shades (master maybe?), with the sunburst mirror over the gorgeous bed- I'm drooling over the bed! That's probably the room with the least color, but mmmmmm! Love, LOVE!! Congrats to you... I'll be following! :-)

I am a huge fan of HGTV and their magazine. Like you, they have wonderful ideas. It takes me a couple of days to read their newsletter, because they have so many wonderful ideas. Their Smart house looks fabulous, great colors and wonderful new products.
