I think I fell in love with my husband because he makes me laugh.
Every. Single. Day.
Especially the dad humor.
You know what I’m talking about.
You understand.
Dad humor is like a cross between why did the chicken cross the road and puns that make your roll your eyes and groan.
You simply can’t help it…..
…..and then you laugh in spite of yourself.
The other day we left on a family trip.
It was raining and the skies were overcast and we were late leaving and a general feeling of grumpiness took over the car.
No one talked.
No one laughed.
We just stared out the window at the falling rain in silence.
And then my husband broke the gloom with a smile and randomly said, “I need everyone to clap in order.”
What?
Clap in order?
What in the world was he talking about?
No one moved.
No one clapped.
I mean I thought about clapping and wondered why and then simply stared out the window at the rain again.
He looked at me encouragingly and said, “Okay. I’ll start with a clap and then you clap and then each of the kids claps and so on.”
And this is the point in the story where I think I literally rolled my eyes.
But he looked so cute and he was smiling at me with those twinkling eyes and it was so gloomy outside and I had nothing else to do for the next eight hours….
….so I clapped.
He clapped.
And then I clapped.
And then each of the kids clapped in turn.
And we sat there in the rain and clapped.
And clapped.
Round and round and round again.
And of course….we started trying to clap over each other and then the clapping got faster and faster and faster.
And the giggles started.
I mean….seriously….you can’t randomly clap in the rain without realizing the ridiculousness of it all.
The gloom lifted.
The car was full of laughter.
And then I turned to my husband and asked, “Why? Why all the clapping?”
He smiled my favorite smile with the twinkling eyes and said with a mischievous grin….
“Me? The clapping? Oh (wait for it….wait for it)
I was just looking for a round of applause.”
hee hee
Dad humor at its finest. 🙂

How Sweet! How Funny! How Precious! Oh, the Family Memories You All Are Making!!
You call it Dad humor; we call it silly and inane. But, yes, lots of goofiness around Kenley Cove! And, happily, it usually reminds me of Daddy--goofy for sure, and spawned much rolling of the eyes. Thanks for this memory, Karianne. You totally rock!
And I laughed
Thanks for the smile and good idea for the next rainy car trip! Can you please let me know where you found the wonderful straw/grass pumpkins? : )
Karianne, How fun!
Yep, he's a dad. :) Sometimes my husband is WAY too perky for my taste, but the longer I try to keep the stone face going, the faster he tries to break it down. Sigh . . . How did we get so lucky? :) Have a fantastic, SUN-FILLED day! :)

Sometimes I'd just like to be a little fly on the window, or a mouse in your house ... so I could share in all the fun :)
Stop clapping for a bit, and you can have a round of a pause.... ;)
Awesomeness. I wish he was coming to Bama with you.
