Random thoughts on a Saturday with a brilliant sun shining over the ocean
1. We are up at Cape Cod for a couple of weeks. We drove to the house last night about 2:00 in the morning and I rolled down the window and smelled the salt air.
It was like I was 10 again driving to the beach with my parents in an old station wagon filled with kids and suitcases.
2. Has anyone read a good book lately? This house is full of them from all the summers, but I’m looking for something new. I just found all my old Nancy Drew books. I might start on those.
3. It was an amazing week on the blog. We discussed:
- how to organize kitchen drawers
- 16 spring budget decor ideas
- DIY book page garland
- the cutest spring decor finds under $25
4. Has anyone started watching Sanditon yet? I loved season one, but I think I like this season even better.
5. I’m going thrifting while I am here. If you ever visit Cape Cod, make sure to add thrifting while you are here. They have the best shops full of vintage finds.
I’ll share all the trips on my Instagram stories.
6. I’m heading out for coffee and breakfast at our favorite spot and then we are going to take a walk on the beach and look for sea glass. What are you doing this weekend?
And now?
Here are some of my favorite finds from this week.
It was an AMAZING one.
Look at this front porch.
Those wreaths. Those shutters. Those vintage pots.
Raise your hand if you are all about spring gardening.
Here’s the best post about grown sweet peas from seed.
You can see all the super helpful tips here.
These beautiful framed watercolor flowers.
Wouldn’t it be so pretty with pressed flowers, too?
Did you know where you put stuff in the oven matters?
I literally had no idea.
(Please act surprised).
Here’s the best post on how to choose the best oven rack position for what you are baking.
And in random news:
This beautiful kitchen
This pretty Easter table
These carrot-shaped pastries
What an incredible inspirational icon at 100
These spring decor trends from market
8 rules to do everything better
These flower arranging hacks
This house is so pretty (wait until you see the laundry room)
These Easter cupcakes from a cake mix
And this
Should these vintage trends stay in the past?
I vote yes.
I have so many of them in my house. 🙂
And one more for the road
I’m actually doing a fun photoshoot this week at my cousin’s amazing home.
You can see the entire house here.
What’s in My Cart This Week

- this pink dress with a tied waist
- these remote lamp sockets
- these hoop earrings
- this blue and white dress (wearing it for Easter—so flattering–I’m cutting off the ties though)

Now I’m off to coffee. 🙂

Oh my gosh, those blue striped wooden fish are SO adorable!! Any idea where they came from?
Love the fish too. Can you share the link please for them?
Re: T.V. shows. I just started watching The House of Elliot. Two young women open a London fashion studio in the early 1920's. The costuming is INCREDIBLE, and the story line is great. :)
KariAnne, I can't find a link for the Swedish summer cottage .... although I'm pretty sure I've seen it during my own cyber-wanderings. In other news ... that front porch is super pretty! I mostly agree with the vintage trends comment but I do have a weakness for parquet floors. I confess I DID know about oven rack placement but that was an excellent article explaining oven placement functions and I bookmarked it for reference. And last year I bought cute little cupcake/muffin/whatever holders on a whim and now I have more ideas for what to do with them!
Have a great trip! Happy thrifting!
Have fun at the Cape! Can’t wait to see where you go thrifting- it’s the perfect time of year for it.
I recommend reading anything by Elizabeth Berg. She's my favorite fiction author.
Enjoy your special time away. You deserve it Im sure. Again we are sitting in Ohio with the snow blowing. Doesnt mother nature know its April 9th? Enjoy. Jodena
The Paris Orphan by Natasha Lester The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks
I hope you packed your warm clothes!! Perfect time of the year to visit when everything is just coming alive again! I’d take a ride down to say “hi” but Chuck is having is 2nd hip done next week. Also…I can’t remember a single thing about S1 of Sanditon but S2 is fantastic!
KariAnne, You are so sweet to include my front porch on your post today. I appreciate it so much. Have the best week.
I thought I recognized that porch. I had just read about your shutters. Adorable!
The little spark of green is in my eyes. We love coastal New England, especially Cape Cod. I love your tips, BTW. Have a great time.
The link for the blue and white dress brought up the bowl set…is really like to see the dress 👗 😁💙
Yes, same here!
Just fixed it! Here's the link (affiliate): https://amzn.to/35W1UO7
Glad to have you back in Massachusetts on "Old Cape Cod"! xoxo p.s. I vote yes also!!
"Where the Crawdad's Sing" and "The Paris Library" excellent books!!! Enjoy your trip!
Have a great time and happy thrifting. Stay warm up there. I'm sure it's still chilly.

Oh I’m so jealous that you are in Cape Cod! That’s my favorite place to be. Thank you for sharing all these ideas with us. Have a lovely trip! Oh and enjoy your cawfee.
Have a great time in Cape Cod. Would you be willing to give us a tour of the house? I would love seeing a beach home full of summer memories and fun.
Have a wonderful trip!
Also Loved Where the Crawdad's Sing, also Porch Lights by Dorothea Benton Frank (old book but new to me and funny);and The Orphan House by Ann Bennett, a little mystery. Ordered your blue polka Dot dress this week, am anxious to see if I get it and it will fit! Wasn't sure of what size to get......loved the porch;pollen bad here in GA right now, but azaleas, dogwoods, etc. just beautiful. Enjoy your trip and look forward to your fun finds! Happy Easter to all/R Newton
What a lovely round up! I always love your Thistlkeeping posts. XO Wendy
I love your Saturday blog post! Iv'e always wanted to go to Cape Cod! Have a great time and I can't wait to see your thrifting finds!
I love all the inspirations. Your cousin's beach home is gorgeous. The back of the house with all of those windows was stunning. I can only imagine the view.
Welcome to the Cape! I really would love to hear what shops you're visiting while you're here. Hopefully you can do some sailing, yard sailing that is! Happy vacation!
I would love to see a tour of the beach house also! Do you rent it or do you own it, if so, do you rent it out? We are in California but have family in New Hampshire and this would be the great get together spot! I too, am enjoying this season of Sanditon more than last season. I admit that I knew oven placement was important but not exactly all the ins and outs of it! What a great resource! Enjoy your time away! Vitamin Sea is good for body and soul!
Thanks for thinking of all of us, so we could have a little fun too. Have a great time, I love hearing the sounds of the ocean so dreamy.
Love the weekly wrap up! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your time in Massachusetts :)
Hope you enjoy the Cape! Love Sanditon, was really angry at the way it ended in the first season and wasn't sure there would be another. Happy to say the second season is better! As an aside... I enjoyed Bridgerton, although this the second season was a bit disappointing for me. Not so with Outlander, however. It's following the book more closely this season, and is so good, apart from a few odd plot points, Claire addicted to ether? um, no. Love the shares in Thistlekeeping, always a fun read!
