Random thoughts on a sunny Saturday morning:
1. My husband woke me up to tell me there was a yard sale right around the corner from us. Isn’t it funny? He said yard sale, but it sounded like sweet nothings to me.
2. It was an amazing week on the blog. This week we talked about the amazing before and after that a little paint can deliver and how to style a hutch and how to shop our house and spray paint things and this makeover I just finished of our local homeless shelter.
3. I’m all about this punctuation mark { –}. I’m not sure what to call it–the dash? The middle mark? The line halfway beside a letter? Whatever it’s called–I adore it. It’s perfect for adding that last little thought–with emphasis.
4. Has anyone else watched the mini-series called The Pillars of the Earth? A friend recommended it to me and I read about it and I think I’m in.
They had me at 12th century.
5. Have you ever written a word that you’ve written your entire life and suddenly, it looks like you spelled it incorrectly? You keep checking and the dictionary says it’s right, but it just looks wrong. So you type it and re-type it and ask your friends and double-check it and you just can’t wrap your head around it. I do that all the time.
Like the word recipe. Doesn’t it seem like it should have another “e”?
6. And can I get an opinion?
What do you think of cutting off the bottom of your jeans if they are too long and just fraying them instead of hemming them? Too much? Trying too hard? Too vagabond-meets-baseball mom?
Inquiring fashion minds want to know.
And now—here are a few of my favorite finds from the internet this week.

I am all about cutting my jeans off and letting them fray! I don’t sew (well) and it’s very trendy right now! Bring on the scissors!!!
Oh so many great finds this week. Happy Weekend
LOL I have two pairs of jeans that I actually bought from Talbots with frayed hems. Go for it. I'm old and wear them so you are fine to go on that...I think cute. If it is way out of date in a few years you can hem them into capri pants. P.S. sent you drive way paint info, let me know if you did not get.
Try the jeans with a pair that you got at a yard sale 😃 Seriously—I’d try it!
Thanks for recommendation for The Pillars of the Earth. I think I would enjoy it too.
So many beautiful things to look at today! You are responsible for my lack of productivity, I'll have you know! But my favorite .... those lacy shutters. Amazing. In other news .... talk with your daughters about fraying your jeans--it's a cute look on the teen/college age crowd but I don't love it for adults, although I confess I have a denim skirt with a frayed hem, so I suppose that makes me a hypocrite. Anyway, your girls will tell you if they think the look transcends generations or if it's best left with the young ones. Also .... it's called a "dash" and I, too, love it. I wasn't aware there was a mini-series for Pillars of the Earth. It's a fantastic book--it's very thick and appears daunting, but such an absorbing read! (Oh, look at me, using a dash).
About the jeans, here’s what I think. Do it! As you get older you care less about what other people think. Frayed hems? Right on! Be a little bit “Jethro” from the Beverly Hillbillies! Does anyone remember the Beverly Hillbillies?
Awesome Saturday Thistlekeeping! I loved all of them. Yes cut those jeans! I'm a walking JJill advertisement:) and they sell them frayed at the hem.
How fun that you included my butler’s pantry! Thank you for sharing... :-) Always love your Saturday posts!!
You may enjoy this book for summer reading by Georgia author, Delia Owens. Her first book and it’s a hit! The name: Where the Crawdads Sing. It’s romance/mystery.
Went to TJMaxx, purchased a pair of high waisted Levi’s and cut, washed and frayed the hem - wearing them with washed linen top and sandals!!! Love, love, your blog!!! PS: I’m 66 years young
My daughter gave me a pair of black straight leg jeans , she is much taller than me. I said I don’t feel like taking them up, she said get the scissors out , cut them , then throw then in the washer and presto frayed jeans ! I think it looks fine , the fray is small you can touch it up a bit with scissors so it looks uniform ! I like the look !
Definitely fray the jeans! I was just at my hair dresser's. and one of the girls had on frayed jeans with a wedgie sandal. It was really cute. Her jeans were more ankle length than slack length. Go for it and show us all!
The picture above (from another person’s website) with the 2 side by side sinks and jutting-in faucets made me laugh. Are you supposed to wash your face at the same time as your significant other, both of you slopping water all over the mirror, the counter, and down the walls onto the floor ? There is no counter space for the personal items of 2 users. Just sticking a flower in the middle of the counter is not going to make this workable!! This is funny ! But, thank you for all your posts! Each one is always interesting.
Always love your random Saturday thoughts, ideas, and finds. ♥️ Happy Weekend! 🥰🌺
That punctuation line “halfway beside a letter” is called a hyphen! Now you know!
OMG! Love your weekly wrap ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many ideas for keeping busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I planted alliums in front of monkhood last year and forgot they were there until this spring. The airy purple of the alliums against the vertical green stems of the monkshood and topped with tge deep ourple monkshoid flowers. Awesome!
Oops! A few typos! Sorry! Lol
Highly recommend the dash and the frayed jeans! Haven’t seen the Pillars of the earth show, but loved the book!!
Definitely cut the jeans. I am 59 and only 5'2" and cut pretty much every pair that is too long. after a few washes, they look awesome. Hope
You are always so funny, love it, thank you for the summer road trip feature, I hope everyone heads down there asap...it's so cute-for real. See what I did there 😉
Love all your posts, but I especially love Thistlekeeping!! I look forward to it & love all your random news!! Makes me smile!
Pillars of the Earth is fantastic, watch it or better yet read the book and also World without End. Two of the best books I have ever read.
Hey Karianne! Of course you can cut your jeans and fray the edge, or buy them frayed, or do any darn thing you want with them (except make daisy dukes..lol..There sure is no age limit in my book that says us women can’t wear what’s current. (I personally would draw the line at pop tops (is that what they call the short tops? and of course, little short shorts (unless you have the body for them and I sure don’t. (Even after 30 years since having my twins) But, never be afraid to do as you please and what you feel comfortable in.....I’m 60 and wear them, and frayed jean jackets, skinny jeans. No mini skirts (but no old lady skirts either!) Always look forward to your Thistlekeeping posts! Oh..and I would not take the advice of your daughters when it comes to your clothes choices. They don’t understand their moms and you also don’t need their opinion!
I was writing an exam and couldn't for the life of me remember how the spell the word "why". Finally put down the letter"y" and kept going :)
I'm just getting to this, today. Cut off those pant legs like there's no tomorrow! Frayed hemlines are THE thing, so why would one hem anymore? I have to admit, I've never done it because I can never find jeans long enough. I know of two stores that I like the fit and they have extra-long, so ALL of my jeans are from them. You could also cut them off just above the ankle, which make it look more like they came that way!
Oh my, those hydrangeas, the Waco home tour, that navy dining room!! I'm in heaven!!! xoxo
