I wish I could invite everyone over to my house for coffee right now.
Or Diet Coke.
Or sweet tea.
Sometimes I’m writing a post and I have so much to tell you and so many tips and ideas and fun things I just discovered and I want to share it all right then and there so you can hear the excitement in my voice.
Truth?
Life is full of exciting decorating moments to share with friends.
Like this new garland tip I just figured out and a complete discussion on how cute pumpkins look on stairs and how happy I am with the way the entryway looks for fall and the cutest new entry rug and how I’m adding cozy to the entryway when the sun goes down.
And the thing I’m most excited about—how I’m taking the fall garland to Christmas garland with one quick change.
Are you ready?
Let’s discuss.
// gray and white rug// faux lambs ear garland //
Let’s start with the overall view.
This is what the entryway looked like after I finished decorating it yesterday.
Sometimes I don’t even decorate the staircase for fall, but I was having a party last night and I wanted it to be cute and so I went to find a rug and then I decided the rug needed some pumpkins and the pumpkins needed garland.
And on and on and fall decorating on.
The gray and white rug is absolutely beautiful. It has a raised tufted with a woven gray background It’s part of the My Texas House Collection. Everything I get from her collection has been next-level for me. I’ve bought pillows and shams and some other pieces and that quilt set I shared with you last week and every single piece has the prettiest details.
I got everything for this post from Walmart’s fall decor section which had the CUTEST finds. I shopped at the store, but you can find everything online, too. I’ve linked my sources here, but feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.

See what I mean about that garland?
Doesn’t it look high-end? Doesn’t it look like a designer came to my house and swagged it on the staircase?
I know it looks fancy, but it’s so easy.
Here are my best garland-hanging tips:
- Start with a basic faux lambs ear garland like this one.
- Then here’s my best tip—DOUBLE the garland. Yep. I doubled each swag of the garland to make it look even more full. For example, for a staircase of this size, I would normally use three garlands, but for this staircase, I used six instead.
- Each end of the garland has a loop. I tied a 12″ piece of jute twine through the loop and then tied it to the stair rail.
- I swagged the garland and then used another 12″ piece of jute twine through the loop and tied that end to the stair rail.
- Then I layered in the second garland and wire the leaves together to hold the second garland in place.
- I found the cutest wood bead garlands for under $2.50 and added those to the garland with these mini pumpkins and leaves.
// faux lambs ear garland //
You can see how I tied the garland here next to the newel post on this side of the staircase.
I left it like this for the photograph, but you can see on the other place I attached the garland (higher up on the staircase) I trimmed the jute twine back and covered it with a few strands of lambs ear.
And here’s why I’m even more excited about this garland.
Are you ready?
I’m going to leave it up until January.
Yep.
From September to January.
// gray and white rug// faux lambs ear garland //
This faux lambs ear garland is perfect with wood beads and mini pumpkins for fall.
And this faux lambs ear garland is perfect with pine sprigs, pinecones and white velvet ribbon.
I’m going to leave up the garland and just change out a few things. The hardest part of garland is hanging it up. That’s already done. Now I just have to switch out the pumpkins for pinecones and I have the perfect garland for Christmas, too.
After I finished with the garland, I added a pumpkin to every stair.
I mixed it up white and cream and orange pumpkins.
These pumpkins are so cute and the stems look so real.
I added a little bit of fall to the rest of the entryway.
This white vase with pampas grass was a fun find and looks so cute in the hutch.
I added this fall arrangement to the hutch, too.
On the side table by the window, I added this circular round vase with bleached cream stems.
Then to add a little bit of cozy to the space, I found this lantern with a flower arrangement and faux candle that lights up the entry when the sun goes down.
It’s so cute.
I had it on for the party last night and got tons of comments on it.
And it wouldn’t be a post about fall without a little fall scent.
I wanted to share two of my new favorite candles.
I love this farm apple and pumpkin so much. I lit them all over the house for the party last night and the house smelled amazing.
You can see it here.
I also love this Lemon balm and Cedar candle. It has the perfect amount of fall and Christmas.
You can see it here.
One last fun find.
I use plug-in diffusers at my home in the bathroom and other smaller spaces. Most of the time I use plain white diffusers.
But this house diffuser was too cute to pass up. The little windows even light up when you plug it in.
You can see it here.

OMG I LOVE THAT GARLAND!!! And what a great idea for leaving it up. Everything looks so pretty. I am interested in the tall golden leave stems. Can you tell me about them. I am all about decor with stems these says and those are just what I have been looking for. You have such talent KariAnne. Love it all.
Everything looks so beautiful! Thanks for the ideas on the garland! Love the lambs ears! I love them in the garden too❤️!
Oh my the garland is super fabuloso! What a great idea, two seasons in one with less work. A+++++ on this one.❤️

It's so elegant 💛 what a pretty look for fall!
Everything looks gorgeous! You deserve a standing ovation for this one.
What a great work saving tip about the garland. I have done the same with faux eucalyptus garland in a large dough bowl but will definitely try it as a garland on my mantle. Your house looks magical inside and out.
Beautiful as always...the link for the diffuser took me to the candle....is it me??
You are so right! Sorry about that! Here's the right link: https://bit.ly/464P2Px Happy day! KariAnne
No Linda is correct the link goes to the apple pumpkin candle.I'm going to consider the lambs ear garland. I think it would be easy to manipulate with other things. I have 2 huge lanterns and I think it would look good as a filler too. This is exciting and so many ideas.
Diana, Sorry about that! Here's the right link (all fixed now): https://bit.ly/464P2Px And you are so right! The lamb's ear garland is so easy as a foundation to add in other greenery! Happyd day! KariAnne
What color paint is your foyer and stairwell ? ? Your home is always beautiful
Is there any way the newest comments could be at the TOP rather than scroll thru all the old ones every time! But you know we ALL love it all, and YOU, no matter what order they’re in!! Let’s go, friend!❤️❤️
Beautiful as always! Love your blog!
Oh my word, KA - your garland - and all- looks amazing!!!! Very well done. Bet your party was a true success. It all looked so perfect. You are amazing.
One word.... GORGEOUS ❤❤❤
KariAnne, your garland looks amazing! What a brilliant idea to transform it for the holidays! 💕
where is the link for the second garland you wired on top of the first that you show a link for please.
Jeannie, I just layered two of the same garlands on top of each other! Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy day! KariAnne
What an AMAZING blog!! Your garland is SOOOOOOO pretty and how smart are you to use it throughout the Christmas Season. It will look like a snowy wonderland garland once you change out the pumpkins to pine cones. So pretty. I love the the farmhouse wooden candle holder. It's such a great price!!! And is comes with the foliage too. Wow. I went to a craft show near me last weekend and bought one that was metal but it was $50!!! I love supporting small local businesses but I wished I had waited for your text. The other thing is that I attended a demo at a cute faux floral shop last weekend. Two young sisters own it (their mom did prior to them). It's called Branches (SC). They talked about what you just did Karianne, Don't buy seasonal decorations (Fall garland, Christmas garland, Spring garland, etc. or wreaths or floral arrangements.). Buy a base decoration and change it out for each season. Way to go Karianne!!! Your Fall decorating should be in Southern Living!!!!
Debbie- I was there at Branches too- Hilton Head? How ironic we meet thru Our “ Thistle” connection! Great fun there- they should meet KariAnne! Happy decorating!
Hi KariAnne, Your foyer looks absolutely beautiful!
How wonderful and enchanting it must have been for your guests to enter your home for your party! And you're on my wavelength about amending fall for winter! I just pulled out a huge amount of fall decor a week ago from my rental storage and, at least at this point, the thought of taking it all down and replacing it with winter in just weeks is daunting! I always do my balcony as well as the interior of my apartment and I think I might go mostly winter greenery with some of my balcony containers and just add a few fall stems for now that can easily be plucked out of the arrangements after Thanksgiving.
It's beautiful, as always!! Love that garland, rug, all is gorgeous
This was just so lovely!!! Wonderful decorations and wonderful ideas!!
Smart! You are already decorated for every holiday into New Years! Just saying, but with a few switches and additions you could stretch this to Valentine's Day in my book!😉 So, let me get this clear.. does each swag have 6 lambs ear garlands and there are 3 swags, so there is a total of 18 garlands? I know, I'm sorry to make you do math! Thank you, friend!
I love, love, love that this gorgeous garland will take you straight through to January with a few minor touches!! Also, that plug-in diffuser is adorable!!! xoxo
Oh my! It is really so beautiful.Wish I had a stairway like yours:-)
Your staircase and entry way is amazingly beautiful... the mirrors , the newel, the chandelier. You have everything curated well.
So beautiful!
It’s so beautiful! I bought the same garland, but can’t seem to get it to fluff up like yours. I did double up. And on one section, I tripled. Any tips?
