I’m a little announcement-heavy.
I mean, truly, how many announcements can one person make? Is there an announcement limit? Is there an announcement cut-off? Can you make so many announcements that people grow announcement-weary?
Truth?
Can we pretend I’ve never made an announcement on this blog before?
Because all those announcements pale in comparison to the one I want to share with you today.
This announcement is BIG. It’s REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BIG.
Because today?
I CAN’T WAIT TO TELL YOU THIS.
The sweetest, most wonderful couple in the WORLD……
….ARE HAVING A BABY.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
My eyes are welling up as I’m typing this, and I’m only 50 words in.
(total aside: I am trying with every effort in the entire world to refrain from typing this entire post in CAPITAL LETTERS.)
Just in case you were wondering?
I’m the mother of one of the most amazing young men ever to pretend he was a dinosaur. If I squint, I can still see him wearing his t-rex hat and glow-in-the-dark prehistoric shirt, and light-up shoes on the playground.
I can still see him catching that fly ball in the outfield.
I can still see him standing on the dirt that taught him so many lessons.
I can see him teaching his sisters to drive, being there for his brother and watching over strays, and letting Buddy follow him wherever he went and patiently explaining to his mother all about basketball and helping his father when he needed him the most.
And then?
One day, I saw him fall in love.
It was kind of unexpected to all of us.
After all, Zach had never even brought a girl home before.
And now I know why.
He was waiting for the most perfect girl on the planet.
Our Courtney.
A girl so special and so wonderful that she took his breath away.
A girl who believed in him.
A girl who made him laugh and encouraged him and saw him with all his strengths and all his imperfections.
And loved him right back.
And now?
They are expecting a baby.
AND IT’S A GIRL.
(See there I go with the capital letters again.)
And guess what that makes me?
A GRANDMOTHER.
Can you even believe it?
If I’m being honest? I’m a little nervous. I want so much to get it right and be the very best grandmother the world has ever seen. I’m not really sure what grandmothers are supposed to do or how a grandmother is supposed to act.
I’ve never been one before.
But just know that right here, right now, at this exact moment, even though I’m nervous, the emotion that is filling my heart to the brim?
Awe.
Incredible, amazing, overwhelming awe.
A grateful, thankful heart full of awe at all the chapters that have gone before….
…and awe at all the new chapters just waiting to be written.
PS, I’d love any advice you have to share. I need all the help I can get.
PPS. I’d love to know your grandmother name, too. I’m looking for a really good one.

Oh KariAnne. We all would have completely understood if you had typed this in all caps. That is wonderful news! The pictures are gorgeous, and I LOVE the "big sister" bandanna on the dog. I have been a mother-in-law for a little over a month, and am still trying to wrap my brain around that (am I really enough of a grown-up to have a daughter-in-law? It seems so .... adult), so I get where you are coming from. I don't have personal advice, but I would say, just be your lovely self. Relax and enjoy the ride. ❤️

Congratulations!!!! Grands are so GRAND! You will love it! Mine call me Mamie ( it was what we called my grandmother whose name was also Mary like mine, so I called dibs on the name!) She died when I was 3 1/2 but I have such vivid memories of her (gulp...verkllempt!) You'll know what to do....you've done so well with your own!
Congratulations! I'm a Mimi. It's what my mother called her grandmother. I didn't know her Mimi before she died, but my Mom sure loved her. Without ever talking about it, my sister and I both decided to be Mimi to our grandkids.

That is certainly a spectacular announcement! Congratulations to you all. My grandmother name for my grandchildren is “Nanma”. It’s easy for them to say when they are learning to talk. A couple of them have dropped it to “Nan” as they have gotten older but that’s fine too. Grandchildren are so very special……just enjoy every minute of her life - they grow up way too quickly. 💕👶🏻

I have a sign in my office that says.........."I never knew how much love my heart could hold until someone called me Grandma". Truer words were never spoken. I know it's old fashioned to call someone grandma, but I love it. I LOVE being a grandma to my two wonderful grandchildren. Best advise .........they want to do it their way just as you did so only offer advice when asked, but let them know you will always be there if needed. And I was not prepared for the wave of emotions I would feel watching my son as a father. It takes my breath away at times. Congratulations to your entire family!

My grandmother name is GIGI. I wanted something different, yet cool.....like me! But being a grandmother is the best feeling ever. I've been told this before I became a grandmother, but when it happened it is TRUE! One word of advise. Your kids will give you instructions when dropping them off for babysitting. Grin and nod. OHHHHH! You are going to LOVE being a Grandmother! It’s the absolute BEST thing that has ever happened to me! I am LaLa, which he came up with himself,and fits me perfectly! In fact ,it is LaLa Camp right now in beautiful Blue Ridge in NorthGeorgia. We have been endlessly laughing , playing, crafting , painting some original artwork ,watching him grow and excel at sports , a few water fights with some simple sponge toys we made , boating, gathering treasures from the woods, and some extra special hugs and snuggling! He’s my WHOLE HEART all rolled up in beautiful blue eyes!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations! I am a Mimi. This is probably more information than you want, but babies learn to make sounds with their lips (e.g., m, b, p) very early and they like to repeat the sounds that they make. Thus mama, baba, etc. So why not Mimi? Also, baby granddaughters need lots of sweet quilts, so get going!
How exciting for your entire family! Congratulations and I hope the pregnancy is easy and the birth is quick and stress free. I’ve got eight grands, five girls and three boys. Some call me grandma and some call me YiaYia which is Greek for grandma (my husband’s heritage). Most of my friends are grannies now too. The only advice I can give is remember that she’s not your baby and whatever the rules are from your son and DIL are the rules. You can get sideways with them real fast if you bend or break their rules! I’ve seen it too many times! I’m lucky in that respect. My kids let me advise them in the “old fashioned ways” of raising kids. Well, most of the time. I do get a few eye rolls from time to time to time. Like, “Add a little rice cereal to her bottle before bed, she will sleep better.” Apparently that’s a no-no now. 🤷♀️ Dont buy too many little outfits! What am I saying?? You will!! 😊

CONGRATULATIONS!! I am 11 months into being a Nana and it is the best. We love our children and now watching them become parents...amazing. Getting to be part of this little guys life.. beyond any thing I ever imagined. I love him so much!! I will advise you to just be available to encourage and support those new parents in any way you can (meals are much appreciated) ~ give them breaks when they need it. (Sometimes I go watch the baby and they take a much needed nap!) I will tell you that your heart will never, ever be the same once you hold that new grandbaby!! Enjoy every minute.

I’m a grandmother of three girls and one boy. I love all four the same way my oldest daughter and me are only 16 yrs apart. I got married very young and had her very young and she made me a grandmother when I was only 32 yrs. I was so happy and proud of my first grandchild. And every where we go I will le everyone knows that I was a grandmother I felt the same way. Didn’t know what to say or do to be that pero grandma. But it comes natural and there is nothing so beautiful and blessed in this world than that tiny baby soon will call you GRANDMA.!!! God bless you and your family.

Oh, HOW EXCITING! My grandbabies are now 18, 19 and 24 and I will tell you that their childhoods went by in a blink of an eye so enjoy the big and little moments. Mine call me Grandma and I continue to love and adore each of them. At almost 71 years of age, I am hopeful that I will enjoy great-grandchildren in my future. CONGRATULATIONS!

And you have creative options for it, or special moments, like Karigram, the grandmother who always has a special message, activity, announcement. Or at a future dance practice, Texas Two Stepper! I like the Karigram as a better choice! No matter what becomes your grandmother name, it will be filled with love! Speaking of love; loved the way they shared the baby announcement, with the sonogram, big sister dog, Dad cap on dad, and a blushing, happy mom to be in the cutest sundress adapting to a maternity dress! Hi Karianne! New “grandmama” here🩵 First and foremost, congratulations! You have no idea the burst of love that is about to take place in your heart! And ultimately, your sweet grandbaby girl will decide what you’ll be called but go with the term of endearment that fits your heart for now. Lastly, being a boy mama myself, step in only when asked. Give advice when asked. I’ve had a few “course corrections” from my dil (daughter-in-law)on those two topics.😉 The kids these days seem to gather all of their info from the internet instead of us Titus 2 women. A little heartbreaking, but then again that might just be my particular dil. Pray a lot, help them in generously ways, offer to cook or clean at the beginning (and other times) if need be. And like another follower said, be there for them. God bless you, sister! An absolute party in your heart from the Lord awaits!

There's nothing like being a grandmother....My youngest daughters son calls me me-maw and my oldest daughters children call me maw-maw....AND I LOVE HEARING BOTH!!!! The biggest lesson, and hardest, if I'm being honest, that I've learned as a grandmother, is that even when you want to, so bad that your heart hearts, you cannot stop them from getting their feelings and hearts hurt...AND...as much as you will want to, you cannot beat up the other person that hurt them!!!...Even if it is your own child....LOL....

I'm a Nana, but when the baby begins to talk she might make up her own name for you.....go with it! Congrats to your family, there is NOTHING like having a grandchild. My advice.....get an Aura Picture Frame and you'll never be without your little darling. Mine rotates between all my grands at all times of the year. Some pictures make me laugh right out loud even though I've seen them a million times. It's like having the Grand with you all the time! Congrats again!
CONGRATULATIONS! It is the most amazing thing. I have a granddaughter, soon to be 4. Where has the time gone. My husband wanted to be called Poppins while I wanted to be called Grand...well my BIL decided Moppins went well with Poppins. And long story short Moppins I am and I've grown to love it.

I'm enjoying 15 grandchildren, ages 3 to 20--and ten of them live very close to my house. The other 5 are in Florida but we see them twice a year. Oh congratulations! My first grandson at about 9 months old started calling me Datin (rhymes with cotton). Now 22 years and 3 more grands later - I am Datin. I once asked my oldest grandson why he called me that - expecting a " I don't know " answer. He said because "you needed a very special name." Yes I love all 4 like crazy!! The other one calls us Goose and Gander. lol Not sure but it may have come from the fairy tale "Mother goose" I used to read to my son. And then one day...it finally came! "I love GiGi"!!! We asked, "who is GiGi?" and those chubby little fingers pointed right at me...cue the melting ❤️. In our family there are different grandmother names for all of the women; it helps when we are all together. We have a Gramma, Nana, Gigi, and a Sugar. I am Nan. Oh my!!! My heart is so happy for you!!! Being a new grandma is kind of like being a new mom if you have love in your heart...it kind of comes natural. My best advice is to let that sweet baby girl name you. Because she is the first grandchild, your name will follow with others that come along, and the name will be uniquely yours because your first grandchild anointed you with it. It's so much more special that way. My oldest granddaughter named me "Ma" when she first started talking and now all of the grandkids (and now their college friends call me Ma) and it is the most wonderful name I have had. As to names, it’s good to let her have some input. My grandmother name is MiMi. It came about because a lot of the little ones at church called be Doe. We started referring to me as MiMiDoe (so my grandmother name would be different), but precious Anna decided I was her MiMi. My husband was Granddaddy until Anna decided at about 3 that it was too long to write, so he is GG. By the way, the littles at church now in their 30’s still call me Doe and I love it! Enjoy every second, spend as much time as they will allow and enjoy being the one who has all the time in the world to play and read and sing and dance. It is the best and goes too fast. Anna is almost 25 and a RN!

Two of my grandgirls occasionally will teasingly call me Grammy Glitter… one because I did NOT want to be called Grammy, second because I do NOT like glitter! It’s all in good fun! Usually I am Grandma to them. Our other 3 grandkids call me Mamock. This is what the oldest came up with when she first started talking. I loved letting the grands decide what to call me. It felt more authentic and special to me. ☺️

Congratulations! My Grandma name is Meemaw. I did not pick this name. My grandchild could not pronounce Gs so that is what she came up with. I have eight grandkids. Each one that followed called me Meemaw. I love those grandkids and now, even though that is not a name I would have chosen, that name warms my heart and makes me smile. My friend's granddaughter started calling her Sassy. My friend's name is Sally and I think she was trying to say Sally but it came out Sassy and it stuck. It is perfect for my friend and so fun and adorable. Whatever Grandma name you end up will be perfect for the fun Grandma you will be.

Congratulations🩷💕🩷 I have three grandchildren: two boys & one girl, and of course, I love them all like crazy, but with a little girl it’s soooooo fun to buy her all the cute little outfits🩷 (My daughter has to remind me sometimes to stop but oh well… I follow all her other “rules” so 🤷♀️ Anyway, you will have so much fun! ) Also it will most likely be your granddaughter who gives you your grandma name. Our oldest (who’s 6 now) named me Gigi. When babies start talking, they repeat sounds (mama, dada…) so I was very happy to be christened Gigi by him!

As a grandmother of two for 9 years, I have probably stretched the limits of what their mom and dad let them get away with. Sometimes it's just our little secret. Of course, if it is something alarming, I do tell their parents but ask them not to say it was grandma who told them. I often get calls about dad not buying the very yummiest best snacks or can I please make them cookies or banana pudding. It is one of the happiest times I've ever experienced...being asked to baby-sit them and now take them on outings and let them do lots of special crafts that mom and dad don't have time to do. Of course, they have a "Pap" that they rely on for lots of fun too! he does a lot of paying for outdoor chores and other fun outdoor activities. You will find your special spot in her heart!

Finally, my daughter-in law asked who I was and he said, “CoCo!!”. So now all four of my grandkids call me that. I just make sure people think it’s more like CoCo Chanel and not CoCo Melon! 😂

There is nothing like it in the world! I’m a grandmother of a granddaughter (2 yrs old now) too. Unfortunately she lives in California and I live in Texas, but we do Grammie FaceTime and I fly out frequently. I never thought I would get the opportunity to be a grandma because of fertility issues for my daughter and my son (who now has my granddaughter) & his wife were not going to have kids. Surprise! 😂 When they told me I burst out crying I was so happy! I chose the name Grammie because I told them I felt I’d won a tremendous award (Grammy Award) when they told me. You will fall in love immediately. CONGRATS to them and your family. It’s truly a blessing.

But by the time my grandson was about 18 months, he changed it to Amma, which I absolutely love. He just turned 5 and has been joined by his 3.5 and 1.5 year old sisters. I love being their Amma!!

My name is GiGi. I have two granddaughters 3 and 2 and a grandson 6 months. I know they are so close. Their parents were both.only children. The time spent with the grandchildren is so special. Those little kisses and hugs. I write down something from every visit in a notebook for them to read years later. My husband started the tradition of getting the girls roses every year on their birthday and on their half birthday also. We also take pictures in the same place every year on their birthdays. I write a letter to each grandchil on their birthday to give to them when they are 18. Congratulations!

Parents becoming grandparents is the most awesome experience, and just to think that your mom will be a great grandmother! You will be a natural at it - she will adore you...I agree with others that you may choose what you would like as your "Grandma" name, but ultimately your grandbaby may well have the last word, and you will love whatever she calls you. I chose Memere as a nod to the Louisiana branch of my family. My granddaughter is 7 - her younger brother is 6, so we have Irish twins. She was quite speech delayed, and we had hoped the arrival of her brother might spark her communication. As it turned out, they are both on the spectrum, so I said let's shorten it to Mere, and then see what comes out of their mouths. Their autism has made it a bit of a long waiting game, but they are both very bright and loving and do know who I am. Our son and his wife, who is definitely our daughter now, are incredible parents, and we are all hopeful for happy successful futures for both children. They live in California which offers substantial funds and support for special needs children. And Grandpa just happens to have been a special education teacher for many years. We may never know the "why", but it has yet to truly diminish our grandparenting experience - rather each milestone our grandchildren reach is an extra-"special" source of joy. As grandparents we just try to help out whenever and wherever we can, give all the love in our power, and preserve as much family history and tradition for the future as possible. You already do this with your wonderful family and your storytelling talent. Congratulations to you and the new generation of parents in your family. What a very lucky little girl she is to be joining all of you ❤️

Congratulations Grandma. I’m so happy for you. I became a grandma at 72 and was so unsure how I would be at that age. When I found out this little miracle was growing inside my daughter I had just lost the love of my life. It was a bittersweet moment. I was so happy for my daughter, but so sad my guy wasn’t here to experience the joy I was feeling. I miss his so much. But after this baby girl was born it took my breath away. I love this little one so much. She is beautiful and looks just like her mama. She has brought so much life into our lives and guess what, she’s just like her grandpa. We all see it and love that she has made a sorrowful moment into such a joyous life for all of us. Just be you and this little munchkin will absolutely love you grandma.

Congratulations to everyone on this wonderful blessing of a granddaughter! You will be a natural at being a grandmother! I’m sure you will have a wonderful time just following your sweet and creative granddaughters lead as she grows, seeing the world new again. I chose the name Grandma to let the world and God know how grateful we were the be grandparents to our miracle grandson. All grandbabies are miracles but his mommy, due to multiple operations when a she was a baby and young child, was always told she had a less than one percent chance of having a child so his birth was truly an extra miracle! Her mom is much younger and chose a beautiful Philippine name for grandma, Lola. I was thrilled to help by doing night Grandma duty for the first six weeks so mommy could get some rest and recover. I cherished every minute. Grandchildren grow to quickly the first year. I made sure to buy another copy of What to Expect the First Year as I remember how much that book helped me and my husband.

Big congratulations to all of you!!! I understand your excitement completely. We have 8 grandchildren - 4 boys, 4 girls - ages 26 to 19. I am Grandma to half of them and Grammy to the other half because our second grandson called me that and his 3 siblings kept it going. My husband is Granddaddy. More excitement!! Our first 2 great granddaughters were born in February, 5 days apart!! Their daddies are brothers. So very HAPPY for you! Grandparenting is truly GRAND! My grands call me T. I wanted to be Mama T but the oldest grand made me T and I love it.
