The twins are turning 17 this week.
I know, right?
Are you telling yourself the same thing I’ve been saying for the past month? What in the world? When did that happen? Weren’t they just wearing twirly whirly skirts and teaching their stuffed animals geometry and dressing up like Jackie Kennedy for Very Important Person week.
Part of me is crying a little inside.
Part of me is full of joy and pride at the amazing young women they are becoming.
The struggle is real.
In honor of the birthday week, we had a mini-celebration yesterday. We decorated the table and put out the food and made peach tea and got everything ready for a party.
A party that started with these plates.
If you have read this blog for more than a hot minute, you know there’s not a lot of cooking going on around here.
But table setting and table decorating?
Everything in on our fancy table came from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart.
And these placemats.
And these salt and pepper shakers.
The centerpiece is so simple.
I cut some hydrangeas and added eucalyptus and then tossed in a few white pumpkins and some woven branches for texture.
Then we stacked the plates and set the table.
And added these woven pumpkins.
The leaf is just cut out of a book page.
You could add a name to the leaf for guests, too.
Here’s the food set up in the kitchen.
Just some simple snacks and fruits and vegetables and cheeses.
All topped off with peach tea.
All of the serving pieces came from Walmart.
And they are SO PRETTY and SO AFFORDABLE.
And the wood bowl with the brass handles. I couldn’t find the exact bowl online, but they have them in the stores and here’s one that’s similar.
There are white platters (these are similar to the ones I found in the store).
And white pitchers.
I used this wood cake stand.
And we served fruit on these little plates.
And I found this adorable butter dish.
And after we finished celebrating, it was time for coffee with these mugs and the cutest creamer and sugar containers.
We talked about all the things.
About twirly whirly skirts.
And football games.
And ponytails and tennis shoes with wheels.
We shared and giggled and told stories and laughed so hard that I never wanted the night to end.
I know one day they will leave the nest.
I get it.
There’s a big world out there just waiting to meet them. They are going to fly higher and farther than we can ever imagine. There are mountains to climb and challenges to tackle and incredible, amazing opportunities just around the corner.
But for now.
But for today.
I’m glad they are home. 🙂
PS Happy birthday twinnies.
