Sometimes a morning just makes you happy to be alive.

Two mornings ago this was my view.

I had gotten the family off for the day and I was doing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen and wiping up crumbs and picking up water bottles and scraping corn flakes off the floor…

….and I looked out the window and saw the leaves dancing.

And then I saw this.

I saw the light streaming through the trees and flooding the yard with waves of sunbeams tickling the grass.  The air was cool and crisp and fall was laughing in tiny gusts of wind that tossed the leaves about in swirls in the sky.

I wanted to remember that sunlight and those leaves and that grass and that sky and those trees…

….and that moment.

Forever and ever.

I grabbed my camera and took a zillion pictures and when I came inside to edit the photographs, I crossed my fingers.

Hoping the sunlight made it.

Hoping the leaves were still dancing.

Hoping fall came to visit my camera lens.

Hoping the pictures captured the moment.

I’m not an expert photographer.

Not even close.

But I love the trying.

I love the learning and the practicing and the moments when my camera lens gets it just right.

So if you’re like me and the leaves are dancing outside your window and you love the trying, too, here are some of my favorite photography posts I’ve ever written.

Amazing dogwood pics! I, too, have taken those fall photos wishing I could capture the feeling of crispness and change. You did an excellent job! I can smell coming chill. Congratulations! Have an awesome autumn.

I soak up any tips I can!! I finally have an honest to goodness DSLR and I can't wait to get started. What lens do you favor the most and do you have a crop frame camera? And I wish our fall was as pretty as yours. We drove back to Indiana on Monday and Brown County is famous for its beautiful leaves. Well, it was kind of BLAH! I wanted the scarlets, golds, oranges but mostly the leaves were brown. Thank you for your tips. I'm pinning this to my Photography PInterest board. Have a sunshine filled day!

Such pretty pictures.....doesn't God give His children wonderful things to look at ? Welcome to Indiana, that the state Iam in. Also thanks for the picture of " you know who " ! ?

Thank you for the photo tips! Lawd knows I need them!! I tried to capture something similar here with my camera. Acrobatic autumn leaves against a slate blue sky just before a storm, and then after the storm all the beautiful fall colors blanketing the courtyard with the late afternoon sun peaking perfectly beneath the cloud...it was so beautiful. But my pictures just didn't do it justice. Not one little bit. I was so disappointed. Well, I'm going to be ready next time. Thank you again, Karianne!

    My favorite kind of pictures. And yours are beautiful, Kari Anne! :) Try as I might, I cannot capture those moments. There is something about the quickening in our spirits that make those moments so incredibly beautiful. The camera captures a blink of what the eye sees... but that experience... it's just a hint on the very best photo capture. But, it will never stop me from trying. ;) 'Cause trying... maybe that makes the moment even more intensely special. Enjoy the color and aromas of the season, sweet friend! And have a blessed day! {hugs}

I need all the tips and tricks. A new camera wouldn't hurt either now that I think about it. Your pictures today made my heart sing. :)

Oh how I love it. I'm a 74 year young lady and as of 11/1/16 I am retiring to find all my "round to its" I've stashed away. Photography is one of the larger ones. Can you advise what camera and lens? Thank you

Love the pics!!! I love my camera, but I have to admit I haven't even gotten it out in some time *hangs head in shame*. The last time I used it there was an issue, but instead of looking into it I put it away thinking I would get back to investigate. In the words of John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans". I just read your invitation to Back Door Quilts in Greenwood, Indiana and SQUEALED out loud!!! Oh so close! Hoping I can make it! I would LOVE to meet you!!!

KariAnne...I know you do not need yet another side job, but I honestly think you should be creating greeting cards. Call Hallmark immediately! Your photos, your poetry! Really? Fall laughing in tiny gusts of wind.? Really. Call them right now.!

KariAnne, your photos are always just sooooooo gorgeous, but even more than that, they are uplifting and inspirational...you have a very unique gift for being able to communicate, not only through words, but also through pictures! As I look through these latest examples of your enviable gift, I wonder to myself if your new book will include some of your beautiful photos? Gosh, I certainly hope so!
