I’m so excited because my amazing friend Leslie and I are bringing back our 12 Days of Getting Ready for Christmas starting Monday.

(total aside: Does anyone know what happened to October?)

And so before all that Christmas shows up, I wanted to talk about getting your home ready for all of the holiday merriment and joy. If you want to refresh a room (or rooms)—one of the easiest places to start is with a new rug. When I first started decorating I’d save up all my pennies for rugs in my house. I’m not sure what happened over in rugland—but today?

The cutest, prettiest rugs are now SO AFFORDABLE.

And there are SO MANY to choose from.

(total aside: the rug in my living room used to be seagrass (you can see the before and after here) and when I changed it out to this blue and white rug the entire room changed.

So in honor of the upcoming holiday season and all the amazing ways we can makeover our house on a budget, I’ve found 10 beautiful, amazing rugs (most of which I have in my home) that won’t break the bank or your decorating budget.

Are you ready?

Let’s go shopping. 🙂

My Top Ten Favorite Rugs from WalMart

Number 1: blue and white rug

If y’all only knew the amount of messages I get about this rug.

It’s one of my favorite rug purchases I’ve ever made.

You can see it here (the 8′ x 10′ is under $160).

It’s super stain-resistant (Buddy has tested this) and comes in a zillion different sizes including a runner.

Number 2: cream and white rug in the entryway

This rug is so pretty because it has layers.

It’s really thick and the colors go so well in any neutral space.

This rug is actually a 5’x 7′, but comes in TONS of different sizes and you can see it here.

number 3: distressed gray area rug

This was the first rug I bought for our family room. It’s a version of the blue and white rug except in ivory and silver. It’s so pretty with its distressed edges and pattern variations.

It’s a 12′ x  15′ but it also comes in tons of different sizes and colors.

You can see it here.

number 4: patterned gray rug

Here’s a different version with gray as the background instead of white.

A similar damask pattern, just a different look.

You can see it here.

number 5: seagrass rug

And here’s one of my all-time favorites I used in the family room, too.

I had these seagrass rugs all over the farmhouse in Kentucky.

They are amazingly durable (although a little rough on bare feet sometimes).

You can see it in tons of different sizes here.

Number 6: natural fiber rug

Here’s another natural fiber rug option that I used in Westleigh’s room when we first moved into the house.

This rug is not quite as stiff as the seagrass rug and much softer on the feet.

The rug from this photo is discontinued, but I found its identical twin here.

Number 7: brightly patterned rug

This rug is everything.

I cannot even tell you how brilliant it is in person.

The colors are absolutely amazing.

You can see it here.

Number 8: muted colorful rug

This is a similar version to number 7, but the colors are a little more muted than in the previous version.

It would work perfectly with colorful or neutral furnishings.

You can see it here.

Number 9: plaid rug

I had to include a Christmas rug in the round-up.

And this rug is SUPER AFFORDABLE at just a little over $125 for an 8′ x 10′.

Last time I shared it, the rug sold out TWO TIMES. Every time they’d get it back in stock, it would sell out again.

It’s in stock right now and it’s so cute in any room that needs a little color.

You can see it here.

Number 10: black plaid

This is the red rug’s holiday cousin.

I’ve been looking at this for a while and trying to figure out where to use it.

It’s just a little over $100 for an 8′ x 10′, too.

You can see it here.

And one more for the road.

This is the rug that’s downstairs in the family room and I have another one upstairs in the craft room and so many of y’all have asked about it.

I linked it here.

10 rugs and a bonus find.

This post is getting better and better. 🙂

All of these rug choices are amazingly beautiful and look very high end. Thanks for sharing this as some of us (Mwah) didn't even know Walmart had such a great rug selection. Enjoy the weekend!

Thank you so much, KariAnne, for all of your many wonderful decorating ideas. Thanks to one of your earlier posts regarding these beautiful rugs, I have your #2 in our family room....LOVE IT!! AND I have your Bonus Rug in the dining room. My husband was not too thrilled with the idea of rugs over our beautiful hardwood floors UNTIL he saw the results. Thank you, again. You ARE the best!!!!

I have a question on the #2 Cream and Ivory rug. I purchased this rug through your recommendation from some vendor besides Walmart several years ago. My rug says "beige and cream" on the back of it, but it looks just like your rug. I want to order a larger size, but I want it to be the same color as the one I have. Would the colors have changed? Also, can you return rug purchases to Walmart

The very first one I bought a runner and round rug, to use in my home, love them both. I have had them quite a while and they do wear well. Thanks for your excellent taste.

What kind of rug pad do you use? I've found the "skid-proof" ones can get gummy and stick to wood floors. Any suggestions? Great post, as always!
