Looking for the perfect cozy holiday space? Here’s mine and here are some tips and ideas on how I decorated it for the season.

Remember the last time I showed you this space?

Life was a little different.

The twins were in high school.

TikTok wasn’t a thing.

My hair was curly.

And the entire house was painted a different color.

But one thing has never changed—how much I love this tiny room at the top of the stairs. There’s the coziest couch I got several years ago from Rooms To Go and the cutest built-ins and down pillows and a basket full of throws and the prettiest sunlight that dances across the coziest rug on the floor.

And now?

I think I love it even more because it’s all decorated for Christmas…

…like this.

The only person who loves this room more than me?

Buddy.

Every afternoon this is where you’ll find him with a snack watching a Christmas movie.

I spend so much time in this room and I’ve never really decorated it for Christmas before.

But this year?

It was the first space I started with.

I added lighted garland on timers around the top of the windows and tied scarves at the corners for bows. To make the garland even merrier, I tucked in extra Christmas stems into the branches and added red ornaments.

In the center of the garland, I hung this row of mini knitted red and white stockings.

I’ve had this Cindy Crawford Home Bellingham sofa from Rooms To Go for several years now and it still looks like new (and we sit on it every single day). It’s super sturdy and it’s held up so well and it’s such a great value for the affordable price.

There’s a GIANT holiday sale going on right now at Rooms To Go and you can check out all the deals here.

It’s SO comfortable and cozy and affordable and perfect for the holidays and all those Christmas movies. Every Christmas, the twins and I get blankets that I’ve piled up in the basket and snuggle on the couch together and put on a movie marathon.

I love the color of the couch because you can add neutral accents or pop it out with red accents like these HO HO HO pillows.

I finished off the space with some wrapped presents and red and white ornaments.

Decorating with presents is one of my best Christmas tips.

Then when Christmas is over—the decorations don’t have to be put away.

I’m so happy.

The lights are twinkling and even though it’s a blustery day in Texas, here in this nook at the top of the stairs?

The merry and bright are shining.

The space is all decorated and my cozy Christmas corner is ready for hot chocolate and mini marshmallows and lazy naps with a cozy throw and a really good Christmas movie or two.

And now?

Can you help a friend out?

What are some of your favorite Christmas movies? If you have time, leave them in the comments below.

I have a cozy Christmas space just waiting for them. 🙂

Beautiful setting. Love the red and white decor and I’m zooming into your photos to see all the details. I’m checking out that couch for myself too. I make fleece throws & blankets, and the holiday prints and plaids are my favorites to include in decorating. Favorite movies are A Christmas Carol, all the versions, always watch them; A Wonderful Life, plus any others that have grand houses or cute cabins, a fire blazing and great room designs & decorations I can copy! Like your house, KariAnne! 🍁 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I'm so glad you decorated Buddy's favorite room! 😉 Favorite movies .... How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown, Polar Express, The Year Without A Santa Claus, The Snowman .... yup, I love reliving my childhood years. I also like White Christmas. I enjoy watching the Christmassy scenes from different movies, like the first Harry Potter one, or watching the Christmas episodes from tv shows that I love (All Creatures Great and Small, Downton Abbey).

My family watches The Muppet Christmas Carol every Christmas eve. My 34 year old son and 30 year old daughter sing along with all the songs. Every year I catch another pun I missed the year before!

My all time favorite Christmas movie is The Grinch - the original cartoon version by Dr. Seuss. Love it! My second fave is A Christmas Story with the little boy and his Red Rover gun and his lips frozen to a metal pole and defending himself from a bully. AND it was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio near my hometown and where my mother was born. Enjoy! I'm all ready for Christmas movies and hot cocoa too! :)

I don't know if you can still find it anywhere but Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas....it's animated but big on heart strings!

A hundred yrs ago (not literally!) my family spent Christmas in Liberia Africa & we read "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (about the Herdmann family)---it is even better than a movie. I was able to get a vintage copy on-line & will take it to read w/my 2 grandsons this Christmas (one is 3 & one is 10). I highly recommend it---so funny & still meaningful.

Love the garland especially the tiny sock garland and the uniqueness of scarves tied at the corners. I love that urge in your home❤️ Favorite Hallmark is anything with Candace Cameron Bure. Can’t wait to see her new one this coming weekend. Favorite classic White Christmas. My dad was a WW II vet. Can’t imagine what all our military members go through during the holidays.

KariAnne! That room is soooo wonderful! I LOVE IT! If it were my room and I was going to watch movies there, I would need one thing: a footstool or a table to put my feet on! LOL Then, I'd watch The Bishop's Wife (I watch it 8 or 10 times a year!), It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Scrooge/Christmas Carol, It Happened on 5th Avenue, Christmas in Connecticut, White Christmas, Charlie Brown Christmas, Grinch, Holiday Inn, Jingle All the Way, Meet Me in St. Louis, Home Alone and Home Alone 2, and I can't even think of the rest! LOL Oh, wait! There's one odd one that is so funny: Bernard and the Genie. It's a BBC movie and old. Amazon Prime has it but you can watch it free on Youtube (not Youtube TV). Just do a search for it. It's oddball but so much fun. Be sure to pay attention to what the genie says. Oh, and yes, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is great! Whew! Okay. That's all! 😍

I'm a sucker for a good romance so "The Holiday" with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz and Jack Black and Jude Law. For the family, "Elf" wins hands down. And I have all guys so, of course, Bruce Willis and the original "Die Hard" is in our holiday rotation (although many folks won't classify it as a holiday movie, it does take place at Christmas so...). And, naturally, my DVR is jam packed with ALL.THE.HOLIDAY.MOVIES - Hallmark, UPtv, GAC, Lifetime, and more. I get constantly teased by all the men in my life but as the only girl in our house I feel justified by my love of sappy holiday films on all the channels from October through December. :) Merry Merry to all!!

This room looks like a chubby, white mug with sparkling stars and red polka dots, filled to the brim with piping hot chocolate, topped with fluffy REAL whipping cream, sparkles, and a peppermint stick! I can almost taste it, friend! Hands down It's a Wonderful Life! Everyday is a gift!

Oh how CUTE!! I think Buddy the Elf would give his stamp of approval!!!! Funny - whenever I see this space I always want to make it an enclosed with glass doors greenhouse lol. All that lighting makes me want to have lots and lots of protected house plants and herbs growing all year. But then you are in Texas and aren't freezing half the year either. LOL.

1957 Black and white called "All Mine To Give". Tear jerker, reminds me of mom, and me and my 6 sisters. All sitting around crying with mom while watching it. You know, the times we didnt know then as the good ol days. But they sure were and still are. But today a Christmas Vacation. I own the moose eggnog mugs, the crazy squirrel to put in the tree. And cousin Eddies dickie. Been watching it for years, still laugh so hard I snort. Your nook is beautiful, but now the memories in my mind are even more beautiful. Thanks for waking them. Take care

I love this and how you have decorated the room. My questions is regarding the soft shades on the window behind the sofa. Did you make these or purchase them?

    1. Image for KariAnne Wood KariAnne Wood

Carol, They are actually cordless roman shades. I LOVE them! I saw them in another house and had to have them! My shades are 34" wide by 60" long for reference. You can see some super similar ones here (affiliate): https://amzn.to/3GKd0WD happy day! KariAnne

KariAnne, I love all your spaces! So glad to “know” you. Ha. Favorite modern movie is The Most Wonderful Time of the Year with Brooke Burns and the Fonz. And of course the classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.
