Want to find your exterior home style?  Are you traditional or contemporary or modern or farmhouse?  Here’s a simple quiz to help you determine your style.

This is the home I love.

Not a little love.

The kind of love that makes your heart beat faster and your eyes well up and your insides literally dance with happiness.

I’ve been standing on that front porch waiting for the mailman since stirrup pants and blue eyeshadow ruled my world.

You can read about our house and it’s story here.

And take a before and after tour of the house and see all the changes that have happened over the last year.

I love traditional homes.  I love symmetry and columns and molding and front porches with black railings and brick steps and porches and paths.

But here’s the thing.

There are tons of exterior home styles. TONS.  There’s modern and contemporary and ranch and farmhouse and colonial and on and on and on.  Are you drawn to an exterior style?  Is there a type of architecture that makes your heart beat faster?

Today, to help celebrate launch week of my newest book, The DIY Style Finder, I’m partnering with one of my favorite brands, Homes.com to help us all determine what our exterior style is.

Here’s a fun quiz to help you find your exterior home style.

I took it, too.

Are you curious as to what I found out?

Oh, good.

Me, too.

My style

I was TRADITIONAL.

Whew.

I was a little nervous.

If I wasn’t traditional, I didn’t know what I was going to do with all those topiaries.

At the bottom of the results, you can see that orange button that says “use the snap and search feature now.”

It is literally one of the most amazing features on the planet if you are looking for homes that fit your exterior home style.

Here’s how it works.

Start with this page.

If you click on the orange button, or go to Homes.com and look for the Snap & Search feature.

Then just click the orange button on the bottom of the screen.

Next, a screen like this pulls up.

It lets you choose.

You can either upload a picture of a home you love or you can search one of their existing photos of different home styles.

I uploaded a home I love.

Mine.

And just for fun, I searched Lexington, KY to see if there were any other homes that looked like mine—to see if there were any other homes with my exterior home style.

(total aside:  Lexington, KY is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet.)

The results?

YES!

Yes, there were.

Here are some of the traditional homes that looked like mine.

It’s such a fun feature and an amazing way to help you in your home search.

You can try out the snap and search feature here.

Farmhouse. I am good with that! Anything but mid century modern.....that’s just not me. Now to order your book...I hope you ship to 🇨🇦

Mine was farmhouse which kinda surprised me. Don't get me wrong...I love farmhouse but reall thought I was more cottagey. My true style would be French coastal cottage farmhouse.

My style is definitely traditional. I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, and I agree with you it is a beautiful city!

I live in a mid 70's tri-level, but since it's in a rural area, surrounded by corn fields, I deal with it as though it's a farmhouse. The outside may look like one thing, but it's more farmhouse inside. Any suggestions how to put a little farmhouse spin on the outside as well would be appreciated.

Traditional! It's fun because I like to mix and match, a little of this and a little of that. The Snap & Search feature is fun, but those houses have nothing on yours, girlie!! I don't think they are even in the same category as yours. I tried it using my own home, and Houston, we have a problem! The houses were so random that they didn't resemble my house in any way. Oh well. It was still fun!!

Hi Karianne! That was a fun little quiz, but it confirmed what I thought I already knew. I’m traditional all the way and I knew this because your home is my dream home. I am madly in love with your home. That’s right. I love every single thing about it, right down to the exterior paint color, and the red brick steps. It’s perfect! The inside is even better! It makes my heart smile that such a good person, such as yourself, lives in such a beautiful home I consider my dream home. You deserve to live there. I’m glad you and your family are living and thriving there. Thanks for the fun little post and enjoy your weekend! 😊

Mine is Transitional and it is spot on for me. I think I want to be traditional, but it's just not me. I do love looking at pretty pictures of traditional homes though! Thanks for the link. It's a really fun quiz even if you aren't planning to move anytime soon.

Traditional here! But I am a visual person! I wanted them to give me photos of choices..😊 but I loved the quiz and the orange button! How absolutely fun is that?!! Total aside—I would love to have you back in Kentucky—even in Lexington. That’s one of my favorite places to be, too. One of the most beautiful and hospitable places in the world.❤️ Celebrating that new book release over here!!
