Is it a chair?
Is it a slipcover?
Is it a chair covered by a slipcover that had big dreams of one day becoming more than just a piece of fabric and transformed itself into a chair?
I feel like there is a life lesson in here somewhere about reaching for the stars and being the best you that you could possibly ever be.
Even if you start out life as a textile. 🙂
Faux Chair Slipcover
2 yards of fabric
double-sided fusible web
iron and ironing board
Step 1: Purchase slipcover
I bought slipcovers in a heavy cotton duck fabric to support the applique’.
Make sure whichever style you choose does not have a back enclosure because you will need to iron-on your chair outline to the back of the slipcover.
Step 2: Design your template
Draw a chair template onto a standard sheet of white paper.
You will need a chair top.
And a chair bottom.
Or….this website has a selection of pre-drawn templates to choose from.
Step 3: Enlarge your templates
I took these templates to a copy store and had them enlarged to 27″ x 27″.
You will need to cut out 3 chair bottoms, a chair top, a chair top/bottom combination and a chair seat…..so make several copies to make sure you have enough patterns.
Step 4: Cut out design from material
Pin template pattern to material and cut out 3 chair bottoms and one chair top and a chair seat.
Then cut out one large top/bottom combination for the back.
Step 5: Cut out double stick fusible webbing
Follow directions on the package.
Cut out fusible webbing and iron on the back of the material.
This webbing only comes in 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheets, so you will need to piece it together to completely cover the material cut-outs.
Then iron the cut-out of chair to the slipcover.
If you are reading this…..you probably already guessed that this was my entry into the “Creating With the Stars” contest.
Thank you so much for voting and supporting and being generally wonderful about the contest…..but it didn’t win.
Actually, it came in last place.
But there is always a silver lining I got to create fun easy project that only took an afternoon.
Perfect for a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills marathon.
And now all my other chairs have something to talk about. 🙂
Have a blessed and glorious day.
