Hello rock stars.

I’m the first stop on the Simply Fall Home Tour today and I’m showing off the gatehouse.

It’s a little different look at fall than the main farmhouse.

A little simpler.  A little sweeter.  A little more modern farmhouse.

This is where I work.  Where I write the blog.  Where I’m writing the chapters of the book (which is almost finished fingers crossed).

I wasn’t going to decorate over here at all.

But somewhere along the way a little fall showed up. 🙂

Here’s a few fall touches from the dining room.

Such a change from where it first started.

I don’t know where orange has been all my life.

But I’m all about it this year.

And I can’t wait to tell the story of the blue and blue chairs.

In the kitchen I stacked up a little more produce.

I found these yesterday at the grocery store.

It was an adventure.

You never know what might happen when you are shopping for pumpkins.

This is where I’m writing the book.

I sit right there and pontificate.

There’s something special about that desk.

I just sit there and let the words spill out onto the screen.

I’m all about cotton this year, too.

I’ve wanted a cotton wreath forever, but they are so expensive.

And then I found this one on sale at a local store here.

Here’s the living room space with just a little fall.

This is the paper thistle my sister made for me last Christmas.

It’s amazing how something so simple can make me smile.

I think I enjoy a little simple for a change.

The gatehouse is my retreat and where I get so much of my inspiration for projects and posts and ideas for changing my little corner of the world.

One pumpkin at a time. 🙂

If you missed the farmhouse tour, here’s part one.

Hi KariAnne~ I think I need to google a gate house? Looks amazing... like if I had one I would likely be there most of the days... um to work! I need more pumpkins! laura

Completely enchanting KariAnne! Yesterday I posted the third and final post in a week that showcased your gorgeous fabrics. In between writing brilliant chapters I hope you'll stop by and take a peek.

I love your little gatehouse! It's so charming. Makes me very eager to complete my studio so I have my creative space too. I'm going to take a page from your experience and skip the color overload (but it was fun!) and just go neutral. Ha! We'll see if that really happens. ;)

Hi KariAnne -- Okay, I am finally inspired for fall. Orange is not normally my color, but with the white and blue -- wow! And, I'm asking Santa for a gatehouse because I think I could write a novel in it if I had one! Have a super day!

Give me all the orange pumpkins, please! Beautiful as always! Now if the temps would just drop below 100 here, I think I would get my fall on! Lisa

Very nice- calming and inspiring! Love that you are following Picasso's advice- your gift is special to all of us!

The Gatehouse is fabulous and I'm so happy to know that the BOOK is progressing to completion! It is easy to imagine being inspired in these surroundings. I love the cotton ball wreath and have never seen one before. I guess it must be a Southern creation and not found here in New England. However, I'm going to try to find one for my home- wish me luck. I've always loved that Pablo Picasso quote and you fulfill it to perfection! The pumpkins are wonderful, who can't love a pumpkin tucked here and there? Thank-you for another lovely Fall tour, they are so much fun!

Oh, Karianne! I love your office! I would be so inspired to write in all the airiness of potential there! Love the Picasso quote! Love your pop of orange on your grey buffet! And love the paper Thistlewood - i would smile too. And hope I can find a cotton wreath too - they are so charming but you are right about the $$!

Karianne! Wow!!! I absolutely adore that precious work space within your gatehouse! And the orange you've added looks amazing with your white and blue! I love every detail that you shared with us!

Hi, Love the Picasso quote. . .I think we should give it out in framed form to every ninth grade as the begin their journey. Just a teacher's thought. Oh, and how can we all have a place like this to think and dream and enjoy? Well, I do retreat to the bedroom to collect my thoughts. Maybe I should try yoga again.

Wow...just when I think you can't inspire me more...you pop the Picasso quote in one of your pictures. Being new to empty nesting...struggled a bit this past six months with what my purpose is. This really sparked an AHA moment in me. Love it all...but that desk of yours:) Total envy.

The Fall Tour was fun but I couldn't wait to get back to Thistlewood Farms. Thanks for sharing your sense of style AND your sense of humor. Love the pumpkins, too!

It is quite easy to see how you would find much inspiration in this place, KariAnne...it is just soooooo beautiful and serene...almost zen-like...the orange of the pumpkins just pushes it that much closer to achieving nirvana! I got this feeling about this space, in particular, from the blue and blue chairs and the pumpkins placed on and around them...something about this unusual vignette just struck me as being the epitome of dreamy calm. I love the simple, uncluttered look and the lovely and lush neutrals all throughout the gatehouse...it's like you chose every piece with the utmost in care and placed each item with purpose. The paper thistle your sister made for you always makes me smile! Thank you for sharing this gorgeous and very special space with us! And I can't tell you how over-the-moon happy I was to hear that the book is almost finished...YAAAAYS!!!! Not that there is any pressure here...but I am extremely excited at this news...I think I may've put a few holes in the ceiling by jumping for joy! :)

KariAnne what a beautiful space. Love the chairs on the wall- very Shaker. That paper thistle is stunning. Will we be getting a tutorial on this??? I made your leaf wreath by the way. I bought an old book from a charity shop so the pages would be all yellowey. Needn't have bothered as I put gold glitter on the edges . I also added a bow.

My caught just announced that we need to make glitter pumpkins. I see a trip to the dollar store in my near future and a possible use for the MMS glitter I won for my painty apron all those years ago. I am so proud of you fir writing and writing and writing. Well done my friend. Sadly, I must say, I miss the gray stripes and orange words in the kitchen. It was one of my favorite looks ever. But the new look is pretty and much more you. Happy early fall, you darling lady, The Other Marian

When I grow up I wI'll have a gate house. I'm 59. I'd better hurry. I just love it. It is a perfectly gorgeous little spot to write. I'm ruminating over starting up a blog again. Cows are my neighbors too. Heh, heh. I have a travel trailer I'm renovating. It's cute. It's no gatehouse, but I have a great imagination so I could make it work.

  25. Image for Leslie Leslie

Love that sweet gatehouse! What a wonderful, peaceful place to solve all the world's problems! P. S. Orange is a new favorite...I blame the walls on that gorgeous English home in Parent Trap.
