Happy fall tour day.
I’m so happy you are here. It wouldn’t be a party without you.
If this is the first time you’ve stopped by, let me start with five fun facts about me:
1. I was the hula hoop champion of the fourth grade.
2. I never met a red lipstick I didn’t like.
3. I talk in total asides (otherwise known as chasing rabbits).
4. I have oddly long toes.
5. I spent yesterday in my pajamas binge watching Friday Night Lights.
I’m so glad to be tour partying today with some of my favorite peeps.
Be sure and stop by and see all the beautiful fall inspiration on their blogs, too.
Before we get started, I wanted to mention one thing. Did you know that we have an unlimited question policy here at thistlewood?
I love questions.
Questions about fall decor.
Questions about my paint colors.
Questions about why everyone needs a pumpkin pillow like this one.
Ask away.
I’ll get my answers ready.
And now—-here are 5 of my favorite farmhouse decorating ideas along with a fall tour of the farmhouse.
1. Add a little fun to your fall
Once upon a time, I thought fall was all about pumpkins.
And leaves.
And twigs and branches and acorns.
I love all of those elements and I still decorate with them, but why stop there when a velvet pumpkin with feathers makes me giggle.
Have fun and decorate with the colors and textures and elements that make you smile.
2. Decorate with leaves from the yard
This is the time of year that the nandinas put on their fall wardrobe.
Isn’t it perfect?
I filled the tins on either side of the hutch with nandina clippings from outside.
I shop the yard for branches and twigs, too.
3. Shop the produce aisle
Some of my favorite fall decorating comes from the produce aisle.
I buy a bag of mini-pumpkins and gourds and tuck them all around the house.
The best part is they don’t have to be stored until next year.
4. Use natural elements
Twig baskets and birch bark wreaths are some of my favorite things to add to fall.
In the laundry room, I hung a twig basket on the shiplap and use it for extra paper towels in the laundry.
My $5.00 yard sale armoire is decorated with painted stripes and a birch bark wreath.
5. Keep it simple
This mantel is such an easy project.
I started with a basket and placed it upright on the mantel.
Then I took a longer metal basket and filled it with acorns and woven spheres.
Lastly, I added a few branches and scattered the acorns on the mantel.
I hope your fall has its share of lazy afternoons.
I hope your fall is sprinkled with marshmallows and smores.
I hope your fall is full of hay rides and pumpkin pie and crisp fall days and swirling leaves in the most beautiful of colors.
But most of all….
…I hope your fall is as amazing as you are.
I hope you enjoyed the tour (and thought of extra questions to ask in the comments).
Be sure and stop by the rest of my amazing friend’s tours.
Happy fall.
Yep! Just as beautiful as I thought it would be. Love your farmhouse in the fall. The fun facts are...fun too! Nancy
So much beautiful fall inspiration, KariAnne! Thank you for sharing!
Just beautiful! Your blog and Stone Gable blog are two I turn to in the fall season for inspiration.
extra long toes and no red lipstick haters allowed!!! My daughter loves her red lipstick and I tell her to wear it and share the smile with everyone~ just like you!!!
Love your home but especially in the Fall! Your photography is beautiful!
oops- forgot questions! Which colors do you like better together? Oranges and blues for fall (love the dishes and pumpkins) or neutrals (like the mantel?) AND, what is the NAME of your favorite lipstick color??? So glad you like questions, because I like asking them!! :)
Question: Why can we not comment in GIFs on blogs? I am absolutely in love with tiger stripe pumpkins this year! Everything looks stunning as usual. Your fall loving friend, Lisa
I just love all you do!! xoxoxo
Friday Night Lights!!! Loved that show.....sounds like my kind of day!
Always so gorgeous girlfriend!!! Love your fall touches! xo
Love the pumpkin pillow. Is it french knots?
I have the same question. (:
So so pretty! Quietly but completely fall. Just love it. I can see the fun and giggles in the velvet pumpkin with feathers also. Have to tell you again, you have done a perfect job. My favorite actual thing, aside from the complete ambiance of your entire home, is the birch bark wreaths. LOVE IT! Have not seen one of those before. That would look lovely on my front door. Well, keep up the great work! I am off to paint my front door golden yellow!
Where, OH where, can I purchase the white houses you showed in the hutch a few days ago? Wanna have these! Everything is lovely, thanks for sharing with us.
Nan, Those houses came from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot! karianne
Karianne, your cupboard is so pretty with the touch of fall color!! I'm all about color myself, but I'm learning to appreciate the neutral palette. This really is so pretty... I think I'll have to pin it!! Denise
1. Did you make that pillow?! It's fabulous! 2. How does it feel to have a home that is perfectly put together? So well done we could have looked in the closets (wish I lived close enough to have come to the party). 3. Do you ever use fake greenery or limbs or are they always real? You are so adorable - inside and out! Happy Fall.
1. No! It came from Kirlands. 2. LOL! There's always another room to decorate on the horizon. 3. Yes! Total faux greenery mixed with real. :) karianne
Always so beautiful!! So simply and inviting yet inspirational. Luv all your Fall touches.
Karianne, I love the home tours you invite us to take, but - yours is ALWAYS my favorite! Keep on keeping things beautiful. Sally
Absolutely LOVELY as always. It's so beautiful. Loving the apples and your shots of color on the hutch!
I loved it! So simply beautiful.
I love it all!! It looks amazing! quick question...when you use the small real pumpkins and gourds, which I prefer , do yours rot? Thank you! I love your blog so much.
They last for the fall season and then I toss them. Very rarely they will rot. :)
Every picture is an inspiration! I just got a copy of the BH&G Fall Decotating Guide and you and TF are the stars of the magazine! Loved every single word and picture! You keep rockin'!
So warm and inviting, the tiny pumpkins and the birch bark wreath are two of my favorites. But that pillow is pretty cute too, wherever did you find that? Pat
Loving your beautiful home, and the perfect Fall touches karianne!! xo
Pat, The pillow came from Kirkland's! It's even prettier in real life! karianne
How did you make the three yarn ? Pumpkins? Love them so much to add to my collection. Love the scraggly look!
Fall is my favorite season. Probably because I'm in S FL and we don't actually have one. So I have to fake my way through the season, and boy do I have a lot of faux fall! My favorites of yours: the textured pumpkins and where did you get those 3D trees?? Also the colorful dishes in the armoire? You are an inspiration! (And I'm loving the book!) I have decided to buy a second copy so I can tear out some of the quote pages.
We love your book. If you ever put together a blog tour, will you add us to your list? We've been blogging six years and have only done a few. We would love to do some more now that we have more time.
Lovely! I swoon every time I see your laundry room.....it makes me actually want to do laundry! Happy Fall friend!
Absolutely beautiful!
Liked hearing your fun-facts again, and it's nice for newbies to get acquainted, too! ;-) While looking at your post, it popped into my head... You know that bench I have under my window in the living area? What if I used that as my 'mantel'?!!! And clear it off when I need it for seating, and add pillows?! Not sure how that popped into my head while looking at your pics, but there ya have it! Thanks!
It's all beautiful! The birch bark wreath caught me eye. Is this something you made or have an affiliate link to? Thank you!
What is the diamond-shaped medallion picture in your dining room. Did you make it? Purchase it?
Amazing as always, you Rock Star, you! I do have one question, Where did you ever find that awesome metal cart that you have in front of your painted brick wall? Its fabulous! I love everything you do! X K
Absolutely beautiful, KariAnne! You always do such a fantastic job of decorating! I love those blue velvet pumpkins with the feathers! They are so cute! I saw these at Michael's about four weeks ago and just had to bring four of them home with me! Enjoy your fall! I just know it will be as amazing as you are, dear friend! Blessings!
As always, your gorgeous farmhouse is filled with awesomeness - and is such an inspiration. Photos are gorgeous - and autumn is a favorite for sure....always hate to say goodbye to summer (esp the good eatin') but autumn is worth it for sure. Love your new book - you ARE a rock star to me! : - )
I LOVE your blog and so enjoy all the beautiful inspiration! I hope you will speak/book tour down south in the future! All the fall decor is beautiful and wanted to ask where I might find the "feathered" look birch wreath? Thank you!!!
Always love to see your house all decorated for the season.....especially fall, my favorite one!! Friday Night Lights......one of my all-time favorite shows!!! Who's your favorite on the show??? Happy Friday, friend!
Karianne, Love your blog! Just bought your book and excited to read it. I have always had problems figuring out how to store decorative items that are not being used at the moment, not just seasonal but vases, plates, candleholders, etc. How do you store items that you are not using presently in your home decor but don't want to get rid of? Would appreciate either a reply or a blog post written on this problem. I don't seem to see anyone address this issue other than getting rid of clutter. Thanks so much!!!
So warm and cozy! Love how you and your farmhouse embrace Fall!
Your home is just beautiful, KarieAnne! Love all your fall decorations. I was really impressed with the way you use nature's natural elements like scattering fall leaves on your shelves, mantle etc. and also using Twig baskets. You are so inspiring!
Hi Karianne- I have a question. I have a traditional-shape china cabinet: buffet below and hutch with glass doors on top. Right now, I have my wedding china displayed in sort of an old-timey way. My problem is that I have that set of china, plus another set I just got , and another set that is sort of casual. I want to store and display the china, party because space is an issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!- Melanie
These are absolutely beautiful photos. I love this type of fall decoration.
I totally love your post! My husband and I are moving to a country house with a straw roof (small farm - very romantic:-)) here in Denmark in about a month and I can honestly tell you that your blog has been of such an inspiration to me, in my journey of decorating both in and outside:-) Thank you so much!!
Wow do you have the comments. If it wasn't so late would sit here to read them all., be surprised what can be learned from reading all the comments on a special blog like yours. When I see something on these wonderful tours I have to go see what I have to supplement my displays/vignettes. .Might not be the same but if in similar category I use it. Like to see what can come up with without buying something. My favorite season to decorate for is Fall. Was going to wait til end of month before putting any Fall decorations out but just couldn't wait any longer. All the incredible decorations inspire my imagination like crazy. Your blog is such an inspiration to get me going, so many lovely ideas, your home is so comfy, welcoming, gorgeous and your decorating ideas are incredible. You certainly earn your reputation KariAnne. Have a wonderful week
Aww my friend another out of the park amazing home tour. Lord knows I wish I had a thimble full of your energy. Looking forward to visiting the other homes too. Hugs and God bless, Katherine P.S. pinned but you already know that ( wink)
KariAnne. My fireplace mantle is deep and sometimes gets cluttered with everything. I do have a beautiful huge picture my church gave me when my dad passed and I have this mishmash flower arrangement that I love. Mantle is wood finished and wall is olive green to go with rug and furniture. What are some suggestions. I do change only at Christmas with lights etc

I love this! I have just started putting out my pumpkins. Last year, my kiddos started counting them.... Let's just say I may have over-done the pumpkin thing, but I added to them this year! YIKES!!
You have such a beautiful home! Your dining room is my favorite with your laundry room a close second. BTW - I have oddly long toes that my hubby refers to as 'monkey toes'...lol.
Where did you get your brush like and wheat pumpkins please?
I love your ideas. I also love your name. Lol
Where did you get that metal cart. Love it.
