If you’ve been following along with all the fall decorating here at Thistlewood, you might have seen this post.

And this post.

And this front porch.

It’s bright.

Extra bright with blue and white and orange and pops of brilliant fall color.

Today is different.

Today is all about the back of the house.

It’s neutral and light and airy and vintage and farmhouse and white.

You might think I’m confused.

You might think I can’t make up my mind about my fall decor.

You might think my fall decorations are all party in the front and business in the back.

And guess what?

You would be right.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Am I the only one?

So today can we discuss a little bit about my decorating and why I decorate like this?

Would it help if I started with an explanation?

See, I used to live in this farmhouse.

If this is your first time visiting or you’ve been away from the blog or if you googled farmhouse decor and are just finding me today…

….this is the rest of my story.

// similar orange branches //

It’s about a girl named KariAnne who loved a farmhouse.

It’s a tale that started at the end of a country road with hay and cows and barns and it has ups and downs and joy and sorrow.

And then?

// neutral hooked rug // tufted chair // tufted couch //

// similar pumpkin pillow //

Life happened.

She followed her husband her heart and moved back to Texas to take care of family.

But the best part of the story?

// pom pom knit throw // tufted chair //

She didn’t move back into any old home.

She packed her bags and her farmhouse decor and those happy fall signs.

And moved back to the home that she grew up in.

// similar cream stems // straw pumpkins //

That’s me.

KariAnne.

Living in my new (old) home with boxes and boxes and boxes of fall farmhouse decor.

It’s what I have.

It’s what I know.

// white chenille pumpkin // similar cream maple leaves // diy wood slice branches //

I wanted to use what I had.

I didn’t want to start over with new decor.

I love the farmhouse look and the vintage feel and the history of all that has gone before.

The story of all that before.

And so I sorted through all the bins.

Truth?

It was a little overwhelming.

I got rid of six bins of stuff and divided the rest into farmhouse and bright.

Then I decorated the front of the house like this.

And the back of the house?

It looks like this.

// neutral hooked rug // tufted chair // tufted couch //

I know it’s random.

I get it.

I understand.

You are probably thinking…KARIANNE MAKE UP YOUR FALL DECORATING MIND.

// fall ficus tree //

That’s me.

A little random.

A little scattered.

A little following bright lights and fall leaves.

I think I have fall decorating ADD. I go in the front rooms and I love it. Then I go into the back of the house and I love it, too.

And the funniest part?

It’s all so me.

Sometimes I’m serious and thoughtful and calm and sometimes?

I’m a party waiting to happen.

// fall ficus tree //

People ask me my style all the time.

The best way I can describe my Christmas decorating?

It’s like a reverse mullet.

Business in the back.

And a party in the front. 🙂

Happy fall, friends.

Well daggone you KariAnne I told myself no more buying seasonal decor. And guess what, the orange leaves and the cream maple leaves hopped into my Amazon cart without me even realizing it. I loved them. I loved the back of the house, I love nuetral natural colors. Just gorgeous. You just keep doing KariAnne because the mullet fits you perfectly. And I love it.

KariAnne you must be a Gemini like me! I have to constantly pull myself into focus. I love everything! I have eclectic tastes. I do love older homes and family so I lean towards farmhouse but nothing better than some cute new quirky bright thing that catches my eye. Love your home and I say decorate to your hearts content. I've been known to decorate each room differently at Christmas. No common theme. LOL Happy fall!

Look at you!! Adorable KariAnne!! Love all of your pretty little pumpkins, throws, pillows and that pretty fall tree! Sigh. As a blue and white and now spring green girl, I may have to take those cream and spring green hydrangeas (that I bought thanks to you 😉) out of my big blue/white ginger jar and get those orange berry sprigs in stat! Your room looks beautifully fallish!!

I feel like i constantly have a game of tug-of-war going on. I look at simple Swedish home decor and it’s me. Then I see a home that’s a mix of traditional pieces and I think that’s me. I’m not getting any younger and I wonder when I’ll figure out what’s me!

I wish you had a home tour! I'd be there in a flash... even if I had to pawn my hubby!!! Your decore is almost as awesome as you are... From the front to the back your home is gorgeous. Where did you get the fabulous boots??? Big Hugs

That would be amazing! Here's the link to the boots: https://urlgeni.us/amazon/WpjH They are SO CUTE on!!!!!

You look soooo cute! :) Other than a big, soft red chair in the library, our furniture is pretty neutral because we have so much colorful art in the house. It makes seasonal decorating a little hard, so I just sprinkle a few pumpkins, mostly textural, throughout the house and decorate the kitchen island a little more intentionally. It works for us. PS I am totally getting one of those chenille pumpkins. Love love love!

Like the pops of orange you used and the berry branches. I'm getting or rather Jim and Meg are bringing down 2 XL bins tomorrow. We used to have a lot more! I change the downstairs decor and sometimes theuy coordimate and sometimes not!

You make me laugh, KA. To thine own self be true. And make no apologies, my friend. No need. You do you, boo. You will find me in the back in the neutral section sipping a hazelnut sugar free latte admiring your fabulous decor. ♥

I love this!! I decorate different in areas. Still struggling but moving beyond my dead hydrangeas a bit.😂 I even have a UK football corner by the bar. Wheat themed colors on my entry way. Thinking of doing blue and white in living room but family room are fun fall favorites from the past. Would send pics but still in boxes!😜I celebrate summer until that very last day.But will definitely have lighted leaves or trees as I will miss my sunlight with shorter days. Slowly saying goodbye to summer in Kentucky like always.

Everything looks lovely and your style is always warm and welcoming. I like the blue dish filled with pumpkins on the coffee table. I have just the place for it. (smile) Our first floor is all done in shades of blue. Hugs!
