Have you ever noticed that a little tip that makes life so much easier shows up at the most random of times?

Like when you’re fall decorating.

Yesterday I was sorting through the pumpkins and the gourds and the leaves and the acorns and the other tiny random pieces of miscellaneous that somehow showed up for the fall decorating family reunion and never left.  From the bottom of one of the bins, I pulled out a wrinkled table runner that I had forgotten I was in love with.

I wanted to hug it.

I wanted to tell it welcome back from the attic.to put on the table and cover it with pumpkins.

I wanted to put on the table and cover it with pumpkins.

But when I put the runner on the table all those wrinkles scolded me in silent accusation.

And right in the middle of that dressing down from my table linen….

….a little life tip showed up.

I took the table runner and put in in the dryer with a semi-wet dishtowel and ten minutes later THE WRINKLES WERE GONE.

CAN YOU EVEN?

(total aside:  you probably already knew that because you are brilliant, but just pretend and act excited with me)

I never met a little tip I didn’t like, so today to celebrate all that is right and good in this world….

….I’m sharing five of my favorite tips to make life easier along with a little fall decorating sneak peek.

1. Control Z

Have you ever been typing something and you messed up?

Your fingers slipped or you reached for coffee and somehow two lines of your text went away.

Or you typed a sentence and then you erased it and then you wanted it back.

Meet the do-over button.

Control Z.

All you have to do to reset what you were doing on your keyboard is to press Control Z and what you reset what you were just doing.  You restore the keystrokes that were just there.  You go back to whatever you were typing 10 seconds before.

I know, right?

It should be called the life saver button.

2. Coupon tip

I use this one all the time.

I go to an online site and find something I want to buy and put it into my cart.  I fill out all the information (including my e-mail) and head to the checkout page like I’m going to check out.

But I don’t.

I wait.

And after a day something amazing happens.

A COUPON SHOWS UP IN MY INBOX.

It’s usually between 10% to 20% off.  Once the coupon shows up,  I take the coupon and complete my check out.

It’s like they are almost paying you to shop.

3.  Congratulations

If you read something amazing on Facebook here’s a fun tip.

(total aside:  I don’t know about you, but there’s never a short supply of amazing announcements on my Facebook feed)

If you type in the word “congratulations” or “congrats” guess what happens?

It turns a red orange and when you click on it balloons and streamers pop out.

It’s like a mini-party in a word.

4.  Control + shift + T

Have you clicked out of a tab on your browser?

And then?

You want to get it back.

Now you can.

All you have to do is push control + shift + T and the last tab you closed hops right back onto your screen.

It’s kind of like calling your best friend right back after you got off the phone because you remembered one more thing you had to tell them.

5.  Fixing scratches

I buy a lot of furniture at yard sales.

Most of them come with scratches.

I discovered the easiest fix for a little scratch on a yard-sale piece of furniture.

A walnut.

All I do is rub the walnut over the scratch and the oil from the walnut takes the scratch out.

Never underestimate the power of a legume. 🙂

Next week I’m sharing my 2017 fall house tour, but here’s a few tours from the last couple of years and one of my favorite fall decorating posts from last year.

Kari Anne, I love the little hints and so enjoy using them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your book. I ordered several audo books for friends who travel and listen while they drive. They will have to stop on the side of the road and laugh a bit. It just gives me an uplifting spirit. When I do have to close the book to finish things at home , I get up with a little lighter step. Thanks for taking time and for all of your hard work. it was worth it for all of us!!

At least I'm not the only one that said "wait! Is a walnut a legume?" Nope. Officially it's a drupe. Peanuts are legumes. Drupes are "a type of fruit in which an outer fleshy part surrounds a shell (what we sometimes call a pit) with a seed inside. Some examples of drupes are peaches, plums, and cherries—but walnuts, almonds, and pecans are also drupes." I didn't know either of the two computer hacks. Now if only I can REMEMBER them. Good luck with the book launch.

GREAT tios! Love the walnut idea...my grand dog knocked over a lamp in my living room on my favorite table. I'm eager to try this.

Hey girl! I've read your book and I love it! I had the download Tuesday, read it then the hardback came yesterday! Great job!

My favorite de-wrinkle tip is that I keep a can of aerosol spray starch in the laundry room. If I need to get wrinkles out of anything, I spray the fabric and toss in the dryer...works like a charm! I even have a an LG steam washer and dryer but I never use the feature, go figure.

Love the tips. So excited...I ordered your book today. Can't wait. If the hurricane comes and the power goes out - I will read it by lamplight with my feet propped up and a cup of hot tea (because we have a gas stove) and a few delicious Godiva chocolates.

Oooo, great tips! My mother-in-law just told me about putting a couple of ice cubes in the dryer with the wrinkled whatever and whenever you can't hear them banging around, you know they've melted and the wrinkles are all gone! Who knew? :) Pretty sneak peak of Fall! Wish I was close enough to go to the book signing. You'll be great and everyone will love you! hugs, Cecilia

I enjoyed your post on 5 great tips and look forward to using them! But, a walnut is not a legume. It is a tree nut.
