It took me longer to think up a title for this post than to make this diy rock heart necklace.

I wanted a funny title.

Or a clever title.  Something that would make you smile or laugh or chortle this almost Valentine’s Day weekend.

Like My Heart Belongs to You.

Or Be Still My Heart.

Or I Heart You.

See what I mean?  I got a million of them.  They just roll off my fingers.  But in the end, I went with the tried and the true, otherwise known as the name of the project.

Just know.  No matter what I call it…

….it really is a Rock Star. 🙂

It all started with these rock hearts.

My friend brought over dozens.

There were hearts in every shape and size.

First I wrote a love story about them and then I made a necklace in under five minutes.

Here’s how I made it.

I started with a heart.

The prettiest heart inside of a heart that you ever did see.

Look at nature going all Valentine’s Day.

Then I purchased jewelry wire.

You want a wire that’s sturdy enough to support your rock, but soft enough to twist easily.

Look for a wire that’s 18 gauge and 1/2 hard.

Next, I found leather cording.

I thought it would contrast nicely with the stone and the wire.

You can buy this and the wire at the craft store.

Next, twist the wire around the heart and secure.

I crimped the back wire together to prevent any ends from sticking out.

Then I simply wrapped it around the rock heart.

Lastly, I cut a six-inch piece of wire, twisted it for the loop at the top and twisted the ends around the top wire as shown.

I crimped the top, too to prevent any loose ends.

Then I threaded the leather cording through the loop and tied it off at the top.

That’s it.

Here’s the finished project.

I heart it.

Truly.

And just remember….whatever I call it…

….this rock heart necklace will always be sweet. 🙂

Awwww! I love it! Are you going to make more and start selling them in your shop? Perhaps you should name each one :-) I remember you said your dad was fascinated with geology and talked to you about different rocks and formations. What a great idea. I'll have to keep my eyes open for heart rocks or it is rock hearts? Have a fabulous weekend. Your rock and so do your necklaces. Hugs!!

This is so pretty! I love the heart. Several years ago, my family and I traveled to the east coast and went to New Jersey and collected moon rocks. We made the same type of necklace and the girls gave them to their cousins for Christmas. Thanks for the sweet memories!
