Some people talk to their plants. Some people talk to their pets. Some people even talk to themselves.
Not me.
I talk to my house.
And first thing in the morning, when all the house is silent….
….before four children need lunch money or hair bows tied or permission slips signed or family fun night forms filled out or great discussions on why Abraham Lincoln was such a great president or that president is spelled p_r_e_s_i_d_e_n_t not p_r_e_c_e_d_e_n_t.
Before chaos reigns.
When all is still.
And it’s just me and the house and a really good cup of coffee.
I wake it up.
I tiptoe quietly from room to room….
…..and turn on one lamp, then another.
Silently encouraging the house to be the best house it could possibly ever be.
Fluffing and refluffing and placing and poofing.
And maybe even picking up a backpack or homework or tiny piece of paper or cheerio or a toothbrush or….
……a stinky sock or two.
Sometimes….if the house and I are feeling extra adventurous, I open the french doors and let the morning right in.
And say, “Welcome to the world little house.”
But that’s only on special days.
That’s only when we are feeling really crazy.
My house and I.
But I’m not the only one.
Did you know there is a whole community of home talkers?
People who inspire with rooms like this and this.
And projects like this and this.
People who form a community of over 100,000 homeowners, home bloggers, renters and home improvement professionals….
…..people just like you and me.
People like this blogger who just posted her breakfast room and got 7, 106 views.
7,106.
That’s 7106 home talkers.
People like this homeowner who wanted to know if vinegar would really get rid of weeds and she needed some answers.
And she got them.
58 answers to her question.
Home talker answers.
People like this expert (one of my favorites) who listens and answers questions and gives really good advice on super exciting topics like how to use an electric sander and home security and how to lay paving slabs and what tools to buy and how to hit a nail without hitting your fingers.
Important things like that.
Things only home talkers can understand.
And the best thing about Hometalk?
You can ask questions and share your projects and be inspired….all in one place….but the best thing about Hometalk….the thing makes me smile and wiggle my eyebrows and whistle the Cheers theme song, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”……what keeps me coming back to visit again and again and again….
…..are the conversations.
So let’s start talking.
Join Hometalk today.
Questions?
Here’s a great post on how to get started.
And then….
Join Hometalk today by clicking here.
You can also follow along with the Hometalk Facebook page here.
And follow Hometalk on Pinterest here.
I can’t wait to hear your questions and see your projects and your rooms and your inspiration…..and be a part of all the conversations we are going to have.
Just you and me…..
…..and an occasional random comment from a farmhouse in Kentucky 🙂

Another excuse to be glued to my computer altho as hot as it's been, what better place to be??? I'll have to check it out..
I've become addicted to Hometalk ... and it has replace my Google search obsession as the first line of searching for all things home! :) Linda
OH my word, I feel like such a heathen!! I completely and totally forgot I had a HomeTalk account!! How does a person do that? The poor thing has been so neglected!! I am such a bad mother.... speaking of being a bad mother to my house the poor thing desperately needs my attention before hoards of young teenage boys descend upon it. Yes, a day of swimming and cavorting in 100 degree temperatures with not a single tree in sight... well they are in sight, its just that they happen to be clear on the other side of the neighbor's pastures, oh 1/2 a mile or so away. So think of my as I get back to work.... cleaning, tidying, folding laundry, and trying to come up with decor ideas (STILL) for our lovely little living room, miniscule boy's bathroom, and the family room. bare walls are tormenting currently, taunting me at my every turn... in pretty much the entire house. Its so sad, 2 years and I still can't seem to figure it out. So maybe a little HomeTalk will inspire me... more so than pinterest because honestly it overwhelms me. Can you tell I'm procrastinating??? Ha ha! Have a wonderful day my dear friend!!
I'm a home talker. But then I talk to almost everything. Especially the TV. Maybe therapy?
Hometalk completes me! It's the place I can find like minded people who love their homes as much as I do! Yes, we're obsessed, but in a good way! Keep right on talking to your house - I won't tell! Kelly
Wow that's a lot of views. So that lady that sent me an email asking for a post on cement counter tops was real huh, I should pay attention I guess. ~Bliss~
You are the Vanna White of HomeTalk! :)
I have been a member for a long time, but haven't used it that much. I see they are really pushing the site now. I have to learn how to find people and follow.
I'm a home talker! I still can't get over the Bic razor thing...I'm SO gonna try that, with a fresh razor, of course. But I can't help but wonder if I'll end up shaving the paint off the wall! To be continued.... xo
I am a home talker or Home Talker.:-) I suppose I have been a home talker since I was around 6 or 7 years old. That is when it all began for me.
I love Hometalk! Y'all find me and let's be Homies. :) https://www.hometalk.com/member/s4t2j1hj8k K- I cannot think of a single blog that has more beautiful home pictures than yours. I'm blown away every time I visit. I wanna snuggle up with your mantel, mmkay?
OK Kari...you are the reason behind my sunroom getting those 7,000 plus hits...!!!...You told me to "jump" into it with both feet...Now i am hooked...I just love seeing so many wonderful inspirations in one place...i love this venue so much better than others....a great forum!...And yes, your house is so alive and happy...happy that you greet it every morning with that contagious smile and laughter of yours...it is happy that you chose it, made it feel happy and then in turn it envelopes your family with love and warmth!...
Hmmm... Just found this , thanx to KariAnne's blog post. I really need to get on the stick here. Have to get a blog started :-o and get on house talk.
I love the mornings that are all mine and I do the same thing...I hug my home and it hugs me back. Thanks for the link to the site...I really like it.
I like HomeTalk too. I WISH I could wake my home up in the morning....but I'd have to get up earlier, because chaos reigns here before I get up! I will just wait for the day when these kids become teenagers and I have to drag them out of bed. For now....they all wake the house up in less peaceful ways then you do. lol --Katie Hope you had a great 4th!
I, too, talk to my house. I grew up in this house. My mother bought it when I was almost 9, my brother was 6, my sisters were 12 and 14. It was the eyesore of the neighborhood. We begged her not to buy it. She asked us to have faith and she would make it a home for us. And she did. A beautiful home that was no longer the ugly ducking but became, and still is, the cutest house on the block. I bought it from my mom when I was 24. I think the memories of all of us growing up are embedded in the walls. Each family puts its own stamp on a house and it forever remains there. One of my favorite signs I have reads, "This Old House Forever You'll Be, The Home That Has Loved Our Family." It's sweet that you are a home talker. I'm sure your home loves you waking it up each morning. She probably stands a little taller, and shines a little brighter because of the attention you give her. So sweet. :-)
Oh the irony. Now that I've joined Hometalk, nothing is going to get done in my home... Quite addicting it is!
I am so curious to delve in deeper into Hometalk! And... I love waking up my home - just me and my walls and the quiet. Yup, I get that completely :-)
I just talked to your house too. I told it to trade places with mine and it said yes. So NOW what do we do????? Columbus is only a few hours drive. My house is all packed now and ready for the big switcheroo. Thanks for making it possible, Karianne. Giggle snort, Michele Seriously though? I am going to check out Hometalk but so far haven't revealed my home yet so bits and pieces of my stuff. Thanks for the post.
I loved the pictures of your house, never tire to see your amazing taste! I liked Home Talk on my Facebook, will explore ore later! I never thought of talking to y house like this, but I do talk on occasion... I just love it. Yesterday my mom and my friend left to Brazil after staying here 20 days... in front of the house they yelled: Goodbye, house!!! We loved you!!! Awww....
All right, between you and Karah, I finally posted some things. I think this just might replace Pinterest for me...because there's only so much looking and marking and dreaming a person can do. Have to actually DO some of it! :-)
OK so I joined HomeTalk forever ago and haven't quite figured out how to use it... I know bad-completely-untechnological-blogger, right?
I've heard of this, but haven't looked at it yet. Seems like there are a zillion ways to get people to notice you now. Blogs, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, RMS, and now Home Talk. So many choices, yet so little time for it all. Decisions, decisions. I'll go check it out!
You temptress! :) I joined and now I know I'll spend even more time on the computer. Oh well, in this heat, I think it's a good thing! xo Pat
ok girlfriend...now i'm in trouble...if pinterest and pic monkey weren't enough now its hometalk! already checked it out and found many more blogs and ideas to inspire me. going to go and make me a wood doormat today..maybe two. AND maybe even post it on my neglected blog! i can always count on you karianne for more inspired reading material! you da bomb (do they even say that anymore?!)
Oh, It's wonderful, but I don't know if i can keep up with it all, hellocotton, pinterest, hometalk, ......I'll have to redo my schedule to fit in my projects! LOL
I gotta be honest, I am so scared that I won't have any time left to live life if I fall down another worm hole on the internet. ;-) Ok, so I WILL check it out...sounds like everyone really loves it. If you don't hear from me again for a day or two, you need to come in after me! Haha! I agree with Anne. You ARE the Vanna White of Home Talk. (I'm picturing you with your Lee press on nails.) ;-) xo-Lisa
God you're good!
It does become quite an addiction doesn't it?!?! I hope your home doesn't get lonely while you're busy looking at everyone else's homes. :)
Oh my. This was so beautiful! What a poetic tribute to your home, but more than that...to the lives that are lived there! Thank you so much for sharing this...oh, and your pictures have me wanting to move in. I'll be there in five...but no worries, I'll bring wine and my own toothbrush!
I love the pictures of your home makes me a little jealous since I have a boring house.......................hometalk sounds interesting
no way jose.....not on your life......no time whatsoever......absolutely not...........get outta here.......I just can't!........just no more time in the day for another place to visit......................I need more sleep.......just can't do it..................................................................welllll................................ Maybe I'll take just a little peek.................hmmmmmm......................oh no.....I'm hooked!
Hi KariAnne, I was invited to join hometalk and finally got around to joining. The power outage here put a serious delay in getting started. I'm so excited to see you, one of my favorite bloggers as an ambassador. I'm following you at hometalk now. I hope you don't get tired of me following you all over the place LOL.
I'm still trying figure out the whole HomeTalk thing! I can't figure out how to find people and so forth... but I'm suffering from beach withdrawl since I had to come home today. So maybe once that fog clears and I pack my youngest off with the grandparents on Sunday then I can join the conversation some more! xo Heidi PS-- love that you wake your house up, but I bet you have to be a super early bird to do so!! xoxo
Goodness. I've seen those little (big?) Hometalk icons and wondered what they were all about. I can't believe that I know nothing about this. Then again...I can't say that any more!! You've got me hooked and I haven't even clicked over yet. LOL Wishing you and your house (home) An Extraordinary Day!!!
Sounds like a place I'd like to visit........will check it out, thanks Ambassador............and YES vinegar really does work on WEEDS !!! All the best, Kathy :)
Why is everything in your house SO beautiful!?! Will you please come decorate my house!!! I need help. After looking at your pictures I want to "kick my walls", as my mother-in-law always says. :) Anna (aka Askaanna)
