beach house garden

When I started blogging they had this thing called Wordless Wednesday.

Do you remember it?

I’m not really sure who started it….but every Wednesday bloggers would simply post a picture like this one I just took for the beach house tour.

Beautiful, wonderful, amazing pictures….

….without any words.

beach house entry

And then we all would jump from one another’s blogs and look at the beautiful pictures and be all inspired in the middle of the week and leave comments like….”amazing pictures” and “wow….what a wonderful scene.”

Or something equally clever.

And everyone would be wordless and inspired all at the same time.

Except me.

beach house deck

I tried.

I really, really did.

I wanted to be a team player and be all wordless and on board with the simplicity of a beautiful picture….

….but I just never made it.

beach house flowers

Every time I would post a picture and get ready to publish the post….

….I would think of something to say.

I would ruin all that wonderful wordless inspiration with a story about the Real Housewives of New York or a post about how I was late for book club or a conversation about my great hair day.

And then you would comment and I would laugh and tell myself that next week…..

….next week I would be wordless.

beach house dining

And so today is that day.

Total is Wordless Wednesday on the blog.

I mean….I know I already started off with a few words and a few pictures…..but for the rest of the post I’m going to be quiet and let all the pictures do the talking and inspiring.

Shhhhh…..

Oh wait….I really need to interrupt this wordless post with just one more thing that I totally forgot to tell you.

In case you are wondering if I just randomly found this beach house and asked if I could photograph it.

I didn’t.

This is my cousin’s house.

I photographed it and posted it here because…..

….I love it.

beach house living

I mean….seriously.

How could someone not?

Yesterday when I was photographing the house and my husband was helping me move the camera around and rearrange the pillows and the sea breezes were filling the rooms and you could smell the ocean….

….I literally started dancing with joy.

Not that it was a fancy dance or anything.

It was a cross between the hula and macarena….

…..sprinkled with extra excitement.

beach house living room

And in the middle of all that dancing…..

….I called my cousin.

And told her:

1.  This was my favorite house in the universe.

2.  I was so thankful she was letting me share it with all of you.

and

3.  I was moving in.

Okay….back to being wordless again.

Shhhhh…..

beach house stairs

I can’t help it….one more word.

Did you see the ladder?

Did you sigh?

Me, too.  🙂

Whew.

I made it.

And now….if you need me….you’ll find me here when it’s not Wednesday.

With a glass of sweet tea and lime…..

….and plenty of wordful conversation. 🙂

Speechless .... Not really. What an amazing house. The colors echo back and forth from the game board to the pillows. Sigh That ladder! I have coveted one for almost a year. Soon I will have one of my own. And don't even get me started about the views to the sea. Heavy sigh. Some times it isn't that we aren't silent, but rather that we can't be. Giggle. Have a wonderful visit. Enjoy your days. Gloria

I live on the other side of the bridge in Plymouth, but not on the water. Wish I could. Your cousin's house is amazing, lovely, perfect... I think I'll go back and look at it again. Sigh...

    1. Image for Denise Denise

Nancy, KariAnn can get a Two For since I'm in Plymouth as well! I don't think I've ever seen a house that speaks to me as loudly as this.

  3. Image for Louise Louise

Ramble on all you want on wordless Wednesday if you're going to share homes like that! Does your cousin want to adopt me into her family? Love, love, love.........sigh.

Hi Karianne, beautiful ocean retreat indeed. Huge rooms which are wonderfully spacious (compared to most beach houses, I've seen). I love the first photo with the lovely winding steps and a slight glimpse of the ocean and the incredible view to come. Speaking of the view. Wow. That porch, that ladder, that bank of back windows provide a vantage point in every room. Every room is incredible. It's going to be tough for you to leave it. That was nice of your cousin to let you share it with the world. Have fun and a great holiday weekend.

When I read the first line about wordless Wednesday, I thought...Karianne wordless? No way! I am so glad you weren't.:) That house would be amazing even without the views, but with them...WOW. Loving the all the blue. And that ladder??? I SO need that ladder. Truly. The 11 ft. tall bookshelves in our family room have been begging for a ladder like that for years. Standing on the back of the sofa is not a very smart thing to do to reach a book. You just go ahead and move on in to that glorious beach house. I will be glad to take your farm off your hands...even if I have only been to Kentucky once in my life....and that was to visit Mammoth Cave.

Oh my heart...that is perfection! That dreamy ladder scares me just a wee bit; the grandchildren would make a game of scaling it when the adults aren't looking and someone would try to fly off of it over the railing and down the stairs - that's how things work with our little monkeys! But, I'd be willing to risk it to live there! :D

Whew!! I am so glad you decided to talk -- I don't think I could have gone another minute with you being over there silent. And there is a thing such as squatters rights. It takes a while before you can be evicted and my gosh the house is simply gorgeous!! You know if I'm ever in a snit ( almost never ) and I decide I'm NOT going to talk I call my daughter and ramble on and on about how unfair something or other is. That is my silent treatment. So I guess talkers are just geared to --well-- just talk :-) Have a beautiful day KariAnne. Hugs from one talker to another.

Beautiful cottage… and photos! but the best part for me… was your adorable text… you are the cutest! Wordless wednesdays for you would be like a beautiful glass cookie jar sitting on the counter filled with the most delicious chocolate chip cookies ever made… but the lid is glued shut!! It just wouldn't be fair! Let your lid off and chat away pretty girl… we need to hear you!! :)

Love her minimalist approach to decor... Couldn't stop staring at the biscotti jar (if that's what the blue ceramic piece in the kitchen is)....thinking I'd have an almond apricot one with coffee, in a color coordinated mug (yeah, I'm that silly... I have Fiesta mugs in 10 colors so I can match my coffee mug to my outfit every morning) in that cushy chair by the window overlooking the water. Ah....what the mind can do for us.... =) Thank you for sharing this peaceful, breeze-of-the-sea spot with us!!

  10. Image for Beverly Beverly

Perfection! (You know, there are words that just plain ole don't ever go together. Like KariAnne and speechless. Please don't attempt to change the tilt of Earth on its axis.)

Wow....just wow! What a beautiful home! It is so elegant-looking, yet still comfortable and relaxing. I love the calming wall colors with all the fun pops of color. The wood floors, the kitchen, deck, and porch.....perfection. And I haven't even mentioned the view! Thanks for sharing the tour....and your words....with us Karianne!

O.M.G. Forget mint juleps and Fleur-de-lis doodads. An ocean view is what melts the heart of this Louisville born and raised woman. Also beach homes. This one in particular.

  13. Image for Kris Kris

Exuberant is the word I would use to describe you, Karianne. I think that's why we all love to read your posts. Oh wait, is this wordless Wednesday??? ;)

  14. Image for Gilly Gilly

I was giggling the whole way....just one question....where does the ladder go to? It seems to lead somewhere, makes me want to climb it and find out.

Wonderful! Feel like I am there with you. Where can I buy that small block quilt in blue/white????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

WOW is right! The Cape and Nantucket have long been part of me. I only get to vacation there on occasion, but if I could have a beach house any where of my choosing, it would be Nantucket, then the Cape or some place on the coast of Maine. Sigh! Thanks for sharing this gorgeous home. Enjoy the beach!

  17. Image for Marty Walden Marty Walden

What a stunning house! I relaxed just looking at it! If everything else was plain those wood floors would be enough because they are gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Obviously great decorating genes run in your family! I scrolled back and forth soaking in all the gorgeousness! I just love that photo with the black cabinet behind the sofa. Actually I love everything! I had to laugh when you mentioned "wordless Wednesday". Simpler blogging times huh? I knew you couldn't be wordless though...and I am glad! Enjoy your 4th dear! Cheers! - Shelley

Sigh. Wow what a lovely home. The epitome of quintessential beach house. I tried to just leave a smiley face, but this home and your post are just too beautiful to remain silent. I hope you enjoy your stay. Does your cousin need another cousin? :) In all seriousness, is this a new home or is it an older home that has been lovingly cared for?

My group board called, "And the winner is......" is my space like this. I invite people to pin a picture that just speaks to their soul. When I am stressed or in need of inspiration, I love the lulling , peaceful, calm and beauty that it brings me and many others.

OMG I wish I was there, in fact I wish that was my house!! I could smell the fresh air and hear the water as if I was standing in the doorway of the deck. Beautiful. Would you happen to know the paint colours of the kitchen and the master bedroom? Kind of looks like your main floor foyer and bedroom. Close maybe????!!!! Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you. Laurie P.S. I love your blog and website

  22. Image for Donnamae Donnamae

Oh my....that home is gorgeous! Are you going to leave me speechless every Wednesday? Just to let you know...I could SO live there...in every room! ;)

  23. Image for Karen Karen

Wordless Wednesday was on Internet Cafe's site. We were supposed to post a scripture and a photo only. (That was back when I was blogging.) And yes, I had difficulty not adding my own words, too. :-) You probably know that Internet Cafe still puts out wonderful devotions daily.

  24. Image for Karen Karen

I felt such a longing for the feel and smell of an ocean breeze while looking at these beautiful beach house pictures. Thank you for sharing!

  25. Image for Julia G. Julia G.

I only know you through your blog, but 'wordless' is not a word I would use to describe you or your blog. You have such a way with words! I love the pictures of this cottage and would absolutely love to sit on that porch with you, with a glass of ice tea (no lime please), and chat the afternoon away! Happy Wednesday!

  26. Image for Kymee Martinak Kymee Martinak

Love your blog. I love all you do. I have to think your favorite part would be to read the comments, I love to. Thanks for a great trip to the beach, Oh! the ladder, wish there was a way to have a chair up there. But... the view seems spectacular everywhere so probably won't need it. Happy Wednesday Kymee

Can I move in too? Pretty please?? I LOVE that blue and white chaise....I can visualize myself sitting there reading for many an hour....sigh.....

I know exactly where this house is and have always admired it from the road. Thanks for the peek inside. It is perfect!!!

  29. Image for Elisabeth Elisabeth

Love it! By the way, your cousin wouldn't happen to be Norwegian?! You don't see many Ludo, game boards around here! I know, it is just as random as real Housewives of New York

  30. Image for Erin Erin

The most beautiful waterside house I have ever seen! I'm searching ancestry dot com to check if we're related so I can borrow the place to. AMAZING! Guess the decorating genius runs in the family.

  31. Image for Terri Terri

I see some empty chairs.... could I please join you with a glass of "Sweet" iced tea please?? :) ....... WOW !!! The windows and the views.... and the wide plank floors.... Amazing!!!!!!! Thank you (and your cousin) for sharing !!!!!

Dear nonWordness Friend - I have my bags packed and I will be there hopefully by dark. Just give me any ole bedroom, or I will sleep on the porch, or on the beach. Oh, and please tell your cousin I have just officially adopted her. I will call her simply "Beach Cuz." :) Enjoy your time there and have an amazingly wonderful time. Hope Arthur doesn't disturb you too bad, and tell my new cuz I said thanks for sharing. xxoo

I love that you always have something to see because it's always guaranteed with a dose of laughter! And nothing is better than laughter - it lifts our spirits instantly and btw, Yes that ladder made me sigh! It's my favorite part of the house I think - it's almost like a secret! lol - I love to read your posts - whenever I'm feeling a little grumpy, I know I can count on you KariAnn! You are a blessing!

  34. Image for Stephanie Ray Brown Stephanie Ray Brown

Oh I love all of the blue (inside and out) and WINDOWS! Loving bringing the outside inside. We truly our "soul" sisters.. loving so many of the same things and writing about same topics! Mine were homes on the beaches of Mississippi and Dauphin Island though. Loving casual coastal style even though going to be in sea of corn instead of waters. Thank you for sharing.. gave me so many new ideas!

  35. Image for gina gina

Yes! House tour! Love it. Thought l loved your family before, but now I'm really jealous! If I had a blog I would say Hey,Karianne, check out my black wicker and lanterns and urns! But I don't. So, of course I could feel at home at this beach house! Of course I am not on the water.... oh wait, yeah, I am, but Not Like That!!! Love!

  36. Image for Bluwatergal Bluwatergal

To paraphrase one of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain "...to get the full measure of joy, it has to be shared." Words and all! That porch, those windows, all the blues, the simple and beautiful decor ~ truly gorgeous! Hope you are staying for the weekend :-) Bwg

Truth be told, I always felt that the WWs were a way for a blogger to skip having to write a post that day, while still publishing one. Any idea where your cousin bought her white slipcover sofa?? I'm on the hunt and LOVE that one!

  38. Image for Ann C Ann C

I have to agree with all the correspondence regarding how great your blog is, how beautiful your cousins home is, how peaceful it made me feel just walking thru it with your great pictures, and enjoying several smiles while reading your comments. Thank your cousin for me (us), and thank you for an enjoyable few moments. Think I will go back and browse some more. Can't get enough of that ocean scent and sound.

Did you notice that awesome ladder has a seat and arms? What more could you need at that window ~ except perhaps a holder for a glass of strong iced tea with extra lime! How stunning your cousin's home is, with its "oh-so-perfect!" furnishings, and the breathtaking views of the sea ... and how very generous they are to welcome you, and us, into such loveliness. Thank you for these visions ... kj

  46. Image for Hope Hope

Really lovely home, great styling and decor! I think you captured the essence with pictures... and words! I have a hard time with only pictures, too. i.e., I want to know the origin of those wonderful trays she has hung on the wall above the white sofa?

Okee-dokie. We've all seen houses. We've all seen big houses. We've all seen beautiful houses. We've all seen big, beautiful beach houses. We've all seen he ocean. We've all seen adirondack chairs on a deck. But I am pretty certain I have not seen such a big beautiful beach house with a deck surrounding it with adirondack chairs and such absolutely sparking clean windows! HOW on earth does stour cousin do it? She must have a staff on call daily to clean them?

  48. Image for Paula S Paula S

Oh KariAnne, Love you with words. Love you without words. Your cousins' home is amazing. Blue and white makes me weak in the knees. Would your cousin please consider providing the source of those beautiful blue and white chairs in the living area? They are just too perfect - sigh... Thank you!

I thought homes like these only lived on the pages of magazines. With or without words this home is truly Cap Cod fabulous. Glad you included your words though, Karianne, because they always add that special something terrific ;)

Well, all I can say is that your cousin's home just leaves me "speechless"... I think "speechless" will allow more words, than "wordless".... simply, incredibly stunning...what amazing views ... can't imagine spending time in that most magnificent home...just "speechless" . . . and breathtaking! Thanks for the tour Kari!!!

Like you, I am completely charmed. What a wonderful place to visit, photograph and hopefully stay a few days. I adore the open and relaxed feel and the porch and views…stunning!

Cape Cod is my favorite place in the universe, bar none! As a child, we would visit every summer and it remains for me that summer is not the same without time there. How fortunate your cousin is (and so, by relation, you, too!) to have such a gorgeous, gorgeous home there. Fantastic touches everywhere one looks (not that such a gorgeous setting needs it!) One question, you wouldn't happen to know what the pattern is for the dishes in the living room hutch, do you? Could you please email me with any info you might have on them? (ok that's 2 questions, lol!) ...just loving them!

  53. Image for Barbara Z Barbara Z

Can your family adopt me? Think I need to be related to that beautiful beach house in some fashion... and I do believe you & I are meant to be pals!!! Do you know what cuz used on her countertops - love that blue and how it's liberally sprinkled throughout the house!!

  54. Image for Linda Andersen Linda Andersen

oh my...do you think your cousin would mind if I moved in as well??? my dream house on my dream location! beautiful...and I'm glad you aren't wordless :)
