Before we decorate Westleigh’s room together? Can we talk about the pillow cover giveaway? Wasn’t that so much fun!!!!
Here are a few observations from the embroidered pillow coverpallooza:
- Thank you so much for all the pillow cover opinions. Option 1 won hands down. I guess we all love blue and red flowers.
- I had so much fun reading the comments that I decided I’m going to host a give away like this at least once a month.
- Y’all left the kindest comments and there were so many of you that entered that I made the executive decision I needed to give away more pillow cover sets. So instead of just one? I’m going to giveaway FIVE pillow cover sets. Check your emails–all the winners (chosen by random number draw) have been notified.
- If you didn’t win this time? Stay tuned. More giveaways are on their way.
And now?
If I squint, I still see this blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl is still running hand in hand barefoot across the fields in Kentucky singing Hannah Montana at the top of her lungs.
But somewhere along the way.
Life happened.
My tiny little dancer with her twirly whirly skirt is now officially moved into her college apartment.
And along the way something amazing happened. I discovered that the only thing better than decorating a room?
Is decorating it with a daughter that you love.
Here’s Westleigh’s room from last year and what we are keeping for the new space and how everything has held up.
Here’s a look at the overall space from last year. We kept the majority of everything we bought for her room and repurposed it.
The entire design for the space started when we discovered this rug.
The rug is now in her new living room (along with the slipcovered couches from our living room at home). It’s held up incredibly well and looks almost brand new after a year.
You can see the actual pattern of the rug here up close.
It’s so much prettier than in the listing.
It has shades of blush and pink and khaki.
You can see it here.
In one corner of the room, we added this chair for homework and quiet time and reading and studying. It’s the perfect size and looks so high-end and it’s so roomy and comfortable. It’s held up really well and it’s a great size. There’s tons of room to have quiet time or work on homework or have a great conversation with your mom.
You can see it here.
This was hands-down our favorite thing we bought for this space. We added this throw to snuggle up with and a round tufted pillow like this.
There’s a little side table for a cup of coffee or her books and a plug right to the left of the chair for a charger.
On this side of the room, there is a desk and two velvet chairs (in case she has friends over and needs extra seating in the space). These chairs ended up being gold. Because the bed was a twin it allowed for more space and she had space on the bed as well as these two chairs and the chair across the room for tons of seating for friends.
This desk is perfect for small spaces and has tons of room on the top for studying and storing make-up and hair supplies. Both the chairs and the desk came from her room at home, but I’ve linked super similar chairs and desk below.
Here’s a similar desk.
Here are similar chairs.
This side of the room has the chair and the dresser and the bed.
Westleigh picked out this dresser and it’s so cute. In sad news the dresser we got for Whitney did not hold up or even make it through the year. But this dresser? It still looks almost like new and it’s going into her new apartment.
It’s a modern take on a dresser that’s a little glamorous (like her) with tons of storage in the drawers.
You can see it here.
We added some raffia picture frames on top that we got at Hobby Lobby with a gold lamp from her room at home.
If you don’t have a Hobby Lobby in your area, I found these super cute wood bead frames that are similar.
And then there’s the bed.
Westleigh and I picked it out together and it’s SO CUTE and affordable.
It’s a lighter wood and super sturdy and easy to put together.
You can see the bed here.
The best tip for a bed like this? I found this amazing box spring that comes in a box that you just screw together and cover with a zipped cover. It gives the bed height and lifts it up and provides even more support for the mattress. You can see the box spring here.
She asked for a twin bed for the room and it ended up really working. It gave her more space in the room and we added an air mattress like this one she could use in case her girlfriends came for a visit.
Also, we hung my beloved khaki and white striped curtains at the window with those same gold curtain rods and gold curtain rings I have used a zillion times. The striped curtains are actually going in her new living room at the new apartment.
You can see the curtains here and the rings here and the curtain rods here.
It was so much fun to work on the room together.
But the thing that makes me the proudest?
The thing that makes this mama’s heart smile?
See this sweet girl?
She put the furniture together herself.
We ordered it and had it sent to the house and she put it all together. When we were there hanging things up in the room, she took the electric screwdriver from her dad and said, “I know how to use this.”
I gave her a standing ovation.
LET’S GO Westleigh.
Another generation of DIY’ers is here. 🙂
PS Pictures of the new apartment coming soon.
Here’s the folder with all the links and sources (or super similar items) from the room.

I look forward to reading your blog every day! You have great ideas for diy decorating. Have a wonderful day !
This is the cutest, most comfortable, serene room. I bet she is so pleased and excited. I can't wait for more pictures and information. Thank you KariAnne for always giving us ideas. Love that bed too.
Another great post!! Loved the space, it is so sweet. Congrats to the pillow cover winners!!! I look forward to reading your blog every day!
What a darling room! Westleigh must have felt like she got a warm hug from her mama every time she walked into it. I can’t wait to see her room/apartment this year! What fun for both of you❣️❣️
Everything is lovely. She will have so much fun. How exciting to be that age and starting out!
The picture of that beautiful fabric with the white embroidery on it, what was it used for. I loved it
So pretty. I love the pastel but neutral colors. Just beautiful. Congratulations to all the winners on the pillows. Happy followers. 😊 you are too sweet.
So pretty and peaceful!! Can't wait to see the new apartment! I love that bed too.
I love this! My daughter will be a freshman at BU starting next week. You should offer a "dorm decorator"/"college apartment" service.
This is magazine worthy. It's amazing how clever you are when finding great things for a reasonable price. I remember those days when my sons would ask for my help decorating their college dorm rooms and later the frat house rooms. It seems like yesterday. xo, Karen B.
What a wonderful time you both had and a beautiful room.
Very cute. I'm sure my son's college apartment will look a little bit .... different ..... from this, so I'll just vicariously enjoy your daughter's girly decorating. Thanks for the furniture review, too. I agree that a twin size bed is more versatile at this life stage. It will be a little while until she gets more permanent digs, and flexibility is key.
Westleigh has a wonderful role model!
I love this room it is so charming and warm and inviting…I look forward to seeing the apartment!! But…did I miss something? I have to ask…who is the white dog on Whitney’s lap?
I love your finds KariAnne. Both beautiful and affordable!
What a beautiful sweet room, it looks so good. Can't wait to see the apartment. You two did a great job! Lucky girl to have you
I must say…. You two did an excellent job with your decorating. Seems to me that your precious daughter is a lot like her momma..🩷
I can't wait to see the new apartment!! xoxo
I love the ceramic bracelet stand! Where, oh where is that from? My velvet ones always fall apart!!
