Have you ever seen that movie “The Holiday?”

You know.

The one where two women are unhappy with their life and looking for a change and they randomly stumble across each other on the internet, decide to swap houses across the pond and find true love and live happily ever after.

There is a scene in that movie that has lived in my heart for over 10 years.

Iris (one of the two house swappers) wakes up on her first morning in her house in America and presses a button.

AND THE SHADES IN THE ROOM AUTOMATICALLY RAISE THEMSELVES.

I wanted to be Iris.

I wanted that room.

I wanted those shades.

And now?

Just like in the movies.

Dreams really do come true.

Today I’m so excited and full of joy to be partnering with Somfy to show off my amazing window shades.

See these amazing shades?

They are incredible.

They raise up and down with a push of a button.

Here are the blinds where they stay during the day.

And then?

With a click of a button?

Here is the same shade and the same window.

Except.

Except now the shades are lowered in place for privacy.

All with the click of a button.

Here’s the button you click. This is the Somfy remote and here’s how I use it.

There are four windows in this room.

Let me show you where they are located.

There’s a window in the sitting area of the room.

The chair on the left?

That’s mine.

It’s my coffee chair.

There’s a window over my dressing table.

This space is tucked back into the corner of the room.

You can see it in the picture above peeking through the sitting room area.

And then there are two windows on either side of the bed.

The amazing thing about these shades?

They are so easy to program and so customizable.

The remote has five channels designated by the numbers 1-5.

Each of the four windows is assigned a channel.

If there’s too much light coming through the windows when the television is on and I want to lower just one window?

I press the down button and the shade moves. Then I press the middle button to stop the shade where I want it to stop.

And Channel 1?

It’s the channel that controls all the shades at exactly the same time. If I want all the shades lowered at one time? I simply press the down button on Channel 1.

If I want all the shades raised at one time?

I simply press the up button.

The middle button stops them all wherever you want them to stop.

There’s also an app that installs on your phone that allows you to program the shades and control them all from another location remotely.

Just in case you need your home to look like someone is there.

It’s super easy to use.

You just add each room with your shades on it and set up the times and let the app do the rest.

You can also connect it to other smart devices in your home.

The install process was so easy, too.

I just ordered samples of the shade patterns I was interested in.  They were mailed to my house and I chose the one that fit the room the best.  Then I put them on Instagram stories and you all helped me pick the pattern. Together, we selected this roman shade option with these amazing light-filtering shades.

You can find a local installer here and order your shades.  It’s truly such an easy process. An installer comes to your house and installs them in less than an afternoon.

Want to see them in action?

Here’s a mini-tour of the bedroom and a video of the shades in motion.

It took 10 years to make my shade dream come true.

And now?

Every morning when I wake up and press the button on my remote and I watch the shades and the sun rise.

It fills me with joy.

Because after all?

There’s nothing better than a happily-ever-after. 🙂

This post came at a great time for me. Trying to figure out how to dress 3 windows in a historic house in a practical way that also will block the over-ambitious morning sun! This is it. I can't wait to get on this. Terrific company!! Thank you.

This post made me laugh, because like you I love this movie and the remote blind scene. We recently moved and we have remote blinds in our bedroom that we can program to be up at a certain time, and can either have it be total black out, sheer part way or all way, or totally up. It is one of the best features we have spent money on this past year!

What a great idea. Where have they been all my life. BTW, where did you get that home is poster in your sitting area?

OMG! Love love love this for you!!!!!!! (And one of best movies ever, even after finding out the English cottage was made for movie, boo.) That was SUCH a moment in the film - and now YOU have it! Yippppeeeee! And gosh those are pretty shades, too. Have an absolutely wonderful weekend, KA.

Your bedroom is so serene and beautiful. I love The Holiday, but I’ve always longed for that sweet English cottage. I’ll watch it just to see those interior scenes. Still, how luxurious to press a button! So glad your dream came true. Maybe mine will — but with a larger tube than in that cottage!

Hi ...I do love these blinds but I was wondering if you can tell me how you suggest cleaning these blinds? The opening and shutting of blinds in my master is difficult due to window and furniture placement so remote blinds would be awesome. But I am concerned about the dust? Unfortunately my current roman shades get so dusty. Thanks Lisa

Your room is just stunning and the shades are really cool. Word of advice, don't lose the remote. I have the small remote for my fireTV and keep losing it in the bed cushions. I finally rubberbanded it to a paint stick. Not very fancy and will have to upgrade the look but it works and for now, that's all that counts. PS I want your bedroom, so gorgeous.

K~ I too Loved the movie! and when i lived off base in Spain, we had Persianas which were metal blinds installed inside the walls.. they operated with a push button. Loved them! could adjust for light filtering, total darkness or even lock closed in place for security! Your new remote blinds are perfect..and perfectly lovely! will you be installing on all windows? again Congratulations!! ps I too would love to be Iris..

How utterly ironic - I just watched The Holiday movie on TV last night! I stumbled upon it channel surfing and was SO EXCITED! It’s one of my favorite chick flicks. This post made me laugh out loud and sigh with envy that you have Iris’ (really Amanda’s) automatic blinds! That is totally amazing! Lucky you! You can relive that scene in the movie every day! :D

Oh, my goodness! I love these! The Holiday is one of my favorites. My love of these shades began at the Opryland Hotel where I was honored to be given the entire suite overlooking the garden. One button changed my life then! And funny that was one of the most memorable things about my stay! Thanks, as always, for leading the way in inspiration!! ❤️

KariAnne, your Master Bedroom is beautiful! I love those new shades! How nice to have a remote to control all of them. How nice that you finally got your "dream" shades! Have a great weekend!

Sorry, but don't you find it a little shallow...and narcissistic to continually showcase your home? Yes, its nice to have a beautiful space for yourself and family, but by letting it consume you to the point of tweaking everything little thing in your home that is already perfect is just sad. Get a job, volunteer, go outdoors, exercise, etc!

I think you have totally missed the point, this is her job, she writes a blog! The people who follow her do so because we love to see how she decorates. I have gotten so many great ideas from her over the years. Her blog is one of just a few that I check everyday. I actually love to look at her beautiful rooms. If you don't like it why are you here? And if you've ever read anything she has written you would know how ridiculous it is to say she is "shallow and narcissistic"! I find her to be kind, funny, creative, and generous. Even though I only know her through her blog I think of her as a friend!

Your room is breathtakingly beautiful! My kids also have been insisting me to get some smart devices for home like lights. But I am old school and have been resisting. Maybe, I would let them get it for me.

I love your bedroom. No matter what you do to it, it's always beautiful and what a great movie! Love that one! I want to live in that English Cottage so badly! Anyways, I'm in love with that bench at the foot of your bed. That's just the look I want for one for my bedroom too.
