I know this is little random.
But I dream in DIY projects.
I’m always thinking up ideas and seeing something that inspires me and coming up with new plans for rooms and ceilings and walls and stairs and bookcases and furniture.
All with one goal in mind.
To. Make. This. House. Cuter.
Sometimes what I dream up is almost impossible or takes two months or needs a specialist in wallpaper.
The thing I imagine only takes a hot minute.
Like these projects we just finished to get the house ready for all the holiday parties and events and visitors.
Here are four DIY projects you can finish in a weekend.
DIY project number 1: install solar lights
This was the one that I was the most excited about.
I was actually excited about each of them, but this one makes me SO HAPPY.
See the lights on the back of the house? THOSE ARE SOLAR.
They are solar lights from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart.
I know, right? I was amazed at how strong they are and how much light they put out and they are SO EASY to install and they are so affordable. We used four of these spotlights and eight of these lights (they come two to a package).
These solar lights are my new favorite thing on this planet and here are my best solar-installing light tips:
- They are SUPER easy to install. You just open the package, add the stake and put them in the ground.
- They need at least a full day to charge in sunlight.
- If they don’t come on full strength at night, it’s because there wasn’t enough sun during the day.
- You have to install them where they will get between 8-10 hours of sunlight a day.
- They are adjustable and I like them best when they are angled up.
- After they charge, you can move them around the garden beds to make sure they are evenly spaced. It’s so much easier to do this at night so you can truly get the effect of the lighting.
DIY project number 2: install porch lights
We added two new lights to each side of the front door.
The other lights we had there were a little small and didn’t really let off that much light. Once we added the additional light to the back of the house (which you can see driving up the side street), I wanted to add additional light to the front of the house. It creates such a welcoming front porch at night and when you drive up to the house it just makes such an amazing first impression. There is now extra lighting at the front door to welcome guests (especially because the days are getting shorter now).
They have the prettiest seeded glass and classic design and match the house perfectly.
The best part?
I can’t WAIT to see all this new lighting with my favorite kind of lighting.
Christmas lights. 🙂
DIY project number 3: freshen up the cabinet for guests
This hall cabinet is now officially ready for guests.
I cleaned it up and organized it and added the CUTEST thing to the inside.
Here’s what the outside looks like.
And when you open the doors?
You see this.
Everything is organized and alphabetized and we added the cutest peel and stick wallpaper from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart to the back of the cabinet.
Here’s a close-up of the wallpaper.
You can see this gray and white peel and stick wallpaper here.
But it comes in other colors and patterns that you can see here.
It’s so easy to apply.
You just cut the section, then peel off the back and add to the wall.
Here’s what it looked like before.
Wait until you see the close-ups.
Here’s the after.
The roll is 18″ wide by 18.86′ long. There was enough to do this entire cabinet with about 3/4 of the roll left over.
I love how it makes the cabinet look extra special and what a treat for holiday guests when they open the doors.
DIY project number 4: install a new faucet
This is not the new faucet.
Not. Even. Close.
This was the faucet that I stood in front of on my wedding day.
I have been wanting to replace it forever.
It looks like this in our downstairs guest bathroom.
Doesn’t it make such a change?
It’s SO AFFORDABLE at right at about $50.
Such a simple change like this can make such a difference for all our holiday guests.
There you go.
Four DIY projects you can finish in a weekend.
Just between us? We actually did all four of these DIY projects in a weekend.
I couldn’t help it.
So many dreams. So little time. 🙂
