I have a new word for us, courtesy of my nieces and nephews.

My niece was telling me an exceptionally scintillating story about life at high school (which of course I’m all ears about), and mid-conversation, she said, “And you know, Aunt Kari, of course, you know we were mogging.”

Excuse me?

Come again?

What in the world?

And then I went all spelling bee champion and asked for a definition, use in a sentence, and part of speech.

To mog: intransitive verb (mogged, mogging, mogs)

To be successful, to be more successful, to attempt to be the most successful at what you do

And you know what’s mogging?

1. Paper book art

Let’s start with paper book art.

I love these books so much. My sister makes them and she creates paper flowers or paper sculptures and glues them to the front of a book.

You are proablbly thinking—umm–KariAnne—I can’t really create paper sculptures.

Wait until you see what I found!

An entire book that shows you how to make the prettiest paper sculptures. You could make them and add them to a book you have at home. Can you imagine what a perfect present for someone?

2. Faux wood wallpaper bookcase

If you want to make your bookcases look like wood? Here’s an easy hack.

All you need is peel-and-stick wallpaper that looks like wood that goes on the back of the bookcases.

I created these faux wood bookcase backs in my house in Kentucky back when they didn’t have peel-and-stick wallpaper that looked like this. I just used wood wrapping paper and stuck it to the wall with double-stick tape, but this is such a better version!

3. These free blue and white printables

I have a little treat for us today!

I created this entire set of blue and white village printables.

There’s a house, a church, and a school in the barn.

All you need is cardstock and a basic laser printer. Just click on the link below each picture to download the printable.

4. DIY Paper Vase

This is such an easy project for a party centerpiece.

It’s made out of paper, and all you have to do is download both sides of the vase.

Then, tape it together and slide it over a glass vase.

5. Paper bowl

Here’s an easy paper project. Why not make a bowl out of paper?

I have a trio of these, and they are so much sturdier than they look.

I filled them with Scrabble tiles like this.

6. Coffee filter flowers

These coffee filter flowers are an oldie but a goodie. 

I shared them years ago, but they are making a comeback for party decor in 2026.

They are so easy to make and you can dye them to match your graduation party, wedding, or celebration.

7. Hand-stitched map

This is a map hand-stitched with a heart around someplace special.

It could be anything.

Any location that has special meaning.

Like:

• the place where you first met
• your first home
• the place where you live now
• where you grew up together
• a place where someone used to live
• where you went on your honeymoon

8. Make a table runner out of wrapping paper

This is the EASIEST paper decor idea EVER.

Have wrapping paper, will decorate.

And of course mine is blue and white.

Just cut to fit and lay over the table as a runner.

8. Wood and paper bird sculpture

This is so much more complicated than it looks.

9. Cover a book

I love to decorate with books.

I stack them on tables and drape wood beads around them, wrap them with twine, and cover them.

10. Bookpage leaf wreath

Here’s an easy wreath I made with book page leaves.

But you could make one with shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day.

Or stars for the Fourth of July.

13. Paper flower art

I needed a large oversized piece of art for a wall in the craft room.

Especially one that didn’t cost a lot of money.

14. Branches with paper leaves

This is kind of free decor.

It’s just a branch from the yard (we have TONS of big branches in our yard because of all the trees).

Then make little paper flowers and glue them onto the branches.

15. Leaf garland

You might want to pin this project for fall.

You can add a little texture to a hutch or bookcase with this DIY leaf garland.

17. Book Advent Calendar

This is the sweetest idea for the holidays.

My sister made this for me a couple of Christmases ago.

We sold them in the shop last year, and you all LOVED them.

You could make your own.

Simply print out 25 scriptures on tags and fold the book into the shape of a tree.

Then each day, you can pull out a scripture and read it.

18. Folding paper stars

I got these stars off Amazon and decorated the staircase with them last year.

They come in different sizes and different colors (I got them in brown paper and white).

These stars are the easiest (and affordable) way to add a little texture and fun to your Christmas decor.

19. Book page trees

Here’s another holiday idea.

I made these trees out of book pages and I cut tiny rows of fringe to mimic leaves.

I know this isn’t technically home decor, but paper was involved, and it was too good not to share.

Last year at the Cape, I went to a book-themed shower.
