Looking for simple fall decorating ideas? Especially ones that take only 10-minutes. Here’s an entire post of simple 10-minute fall decorating ideas.

simple fall decorating ideas

I realized something the other day.

Somewhere between picking the paint color for my house and moving and discussing my kitchen remodel and putting mirrors back where they came from

…I totally forgot about fall.

I love fall.

It’s like every Hallmark movie I’ve ever watched.

Just when I’m tired of summer, just when I want a little excitement and someone to show up and sweep me off my feet in a turtleneck and a hot chocolate stand…

…fall shows up with sweater weather.

But this year I’m all about simple fall.

Here are my simple 10-minute fall decorating ideas.

1. Create an urn display

Fill an urn with leaves from the yard (or Trader Joe’s if you don’t have a yard).

Stuff them down into the urn.

Layer a stack of pumpkins on top.

2. Glue on a book page leaf

Cut out a leaf from a book page.

Glue to the top of a pumpkin.

You can also make a wreath from those book page leaves, too.

3. Fill a toolbox with pumpkins

Buy a bag of inexpensive dollar store pumpkins.

Fill up a vintage toolbox.

Don’t waste your pumpkin space.  Put the not-cute pumpkins on the bottom and scatter a few more expensive cuter ones on top.

Only you will know how cute all the pumpkins really are.

4. Add a little blue and white

I wasn’t sure about this one until I tried it.

Something about blue and white makes fall pop.

Pull out those blue and white dishes and mix some pumpkins in for a simple, easy, fresh display.

5. Make a creative display with wheat and burlap ribbon

Start with the easiest burlap bow in the world here.

Then stuff a few wheat stalks through the center.

Hang inside a picture frame or on the front of a hutch.

6. Fill a lantern with pumpkins

Open up the front of your lantern.

Fill with pumpkins.

total aside:  if the pumpkins are real, please don’t forget about them (not that I’ve ever done that or anything)

7. Stack cutting boards

Looking for an easy mantel display?

Stack cutting boards.

Add leaves and a painted sign.

Hello nine minutes—I’m looking at you.

8. Tie on an acorn

I found these wood acorns in the dollar section.

I tied a ribbon around the stem (add a drop of glue to secure).

Then I looped the ribbon around a simple dollar store grapevine wreath.

9. Scatter your scrabble letters

I found an entire bag of scrabble letters with a hole in the top.

Use tiles like these or scrabble tiles from a yard sale.

You could make a banner for a wreath or scatter them on a table by the front door.

10. Put cornhusks on top of your hutch

Need a simple fall decorating ideas? Need some visual interest on your hutch?

Go up.

Add a few corn husks to your display.

May your fall be full of joy.

May your fall be cute.

But most of all…

….may your fall sweep you off your feet with a pumpkin spice latte. 🙂

I love autumn decorating ... because it's simple! I don't feel like I *have* to do it (Christmas, I'm looking at you!). I shy away from Halloween decorating and go for something that will carry me through Thanksgiving. And when the wind blows leaves across my front porch, well, that just adds to the authenticity of the look, right? This year I am all about my deep purple mums. Such a pretty contrast with the oranges of my pumpkins and gourds.

I love Autumn. I love the colors. This has always been a surprise to me because I don't use brown or orange is my home's décor. But when early Sept arrives, I can't wait to start putting out orange pumpkins and gold, brown ,red and orange leaves and anything else that speaks Autumn. This year Autumn has taken its good old time. We hit 100 degrees in Sept. This never happens. We live in Michigan and normally we would have been celebrating Autumn for weeks, but trees are just starting to change colors. Here's hoping we get to enjoy the glorious colors before the snow flies.

I always LOVE your suggestions! The only fall decorating I've done so far is I made a door wreath with a fall silk leaf garland and added little faux pumpkins. I will do more, maybe today! 😊 Now you are making me want a pumpkin spice latte! 😁

Your fall decor is lovely. I normally love this season, but I just haven't been feeling it this year. I don't have a lot of space for extra decor. I'm so loving our new/old/childhood home decorating! Brenda

Moving does that to a person-have to find quick ways of being seasonal! Love all your ideas and that new painted armoire! When did you get that?? Looks really nice with the simple wheat and burlap bows. Enjoy this transition time as much as possible-it is old/new and exciting. So happy that you are making the transition with such style!

I am amazed that you have so recently moved and are decorating so beautifully! I am slowly learning to love fall. Something that helps is making fabric pumpkins. I went to the store and bought several different fabrics then searched my Fall Pinterest board for how-to's. I have made a small dark green pumpkin out of pin-wale corduroy and a large one from a sweater knit.

Yeeeeessss! I love simple fall. I think I'm loving simple everything right now. I don't want to pack away everything I love in my house to decorate for fall. Fall needs to fit into real life. Listen up fall...you must assimilate. Funny thing is....I just posted an urn project too. Great minds thinking alike...uh huh...oh yea...you go girl. Nancy

Where would all of us lovers of decorating be without seasons!! I just love everything you do! Now please tell me where you got the white houses on your hutch!! Love, love!!!

You are so creative and I love your fast fixes for stuff like Fall decorating. I have followed you before but didn't pay much attention to blogs, including my own, for nearly a year. Your story of moving to your hometown and childhood home intrigues me. We tried moving back to our hometown near family after 16 years away and it didn't work out so great for us. Our boys are teenagers though and I think that is partly why. I am hoping you and your family find new adventure and happiness in your new/old home town and in your darling new house. Your upbeat personality will get you through any challenges. Much love and luck to you and yours!

Cute!! I love the pumpkins in the lantern. I finally got my fall decorations done last weekend and someone mentioned it was only 8 weeks until Christmas. I had a slight panic attack!
