I cannot WAIT to show you what I’ve been working on for fall.
(insert raising hands and stomping feet)
It’s my favorite fall ever.
Like a dancing around with spirit fingers singing “Don’t Stop Believin” kind of fall.
I’m not sure what it is about this year, maybe it was the flash flood or the humidity or the hot temperatures mixed with all the rainy days.
But I’m so over it.
Let’s talk fall.
Here’s 10 trends I’m using in my decor this year (most of them are under $5.00).
This is the trendy, glamorous name for sticks.
I have tons of them and they are free.
I love free.
Hello hydrangea, come sit by me.
So far we are free…two, expensive…zero.
3. Orange pumpkins
I’m going all old school with the Walmart produce department.
There’s just something about a real pumpkin that makes me smile.
I’m going to be adding them to rustic wood containers and using them on mantels and putting buckets of them by the front door.
4. Rustic wood
My heart is clamoring for reclaimed wood and the texture it brings with it.
I found some old tool boxes I’m using for a project and a couple of old stools.
I’m making wood signs for outside and reusing old wood flooring in a really creative way.
5. Pumpkins made out of unique materials
In addition to the orange pumpkins, I’m introducing some new pumpkins to the family.
They’ll be made out of chenille and felted wood and burlap and fabric.
I’m even working on some made out of old quilts.
6. Galvanized metal
This year I’m all about the galvanized.
I’m hanging galvanized trays on the wall and layering galvanized metal urns outside.
And if I can’t find galvanized metal, I’m making my own.
I just finished a chalkboard project for the butler’s pantry.
And I’m not stopping there.
8. Birch bark
I’m working on making a birch bark swag for the fireplace.
And hanging back up my birch bark wreaths.
And maybe even tie-on birch bark signs for the back of the chairs in the dining room.
This year I’m decorating with lots of neutrals.
But sometimes I crave just a little pop of color.
That’s where all the orange pumpkins and a few bright sparks of color with leaves like this enter the picture.
I know this isn’t really a trend.
I know you can’t shop for home in the store or find it on the clearance aisle or buy one home get one for fifty percent off.
But to truly make it work, any kind of decorating has to include a little heart along with it.
And my home?
The one at the end of the winding country road next to the stacks of hay under the blue Kentucky skies?
I’ll have it with an extra side of fall. 🙂
