Thistlekeeping

Thistlekeeping

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning:

1. We lost a baseball game last night.  I heard more of that silent sadness on the way home.

2. The peonies are about to bloom.  They are one of the most beautiful flowers in the universe.  It’s so sad they only stick around for five minutes.

3. Just when I think the roads in Kentucky can’t get any prettier, spring shows up.

4. You will not believe what I found by the side of the road.

A piece of wood that looks like some pilgrims dropped it off.  I’m drying it out and spraying it off and planning the best project ever with it.

See what I mean about Kentucky roads being beautiful. 🙂

And now in what-I-did-during-spring-break-news–I want to introduce you to the amazing sponsor for today’s Thistlekeeping–Best Fiends.

I love this game so much.

I’m totally addicted.  I play it everywhere–in the car, in the house, on the porch and on the front steps waiting for the bus.  I’m on level 31 and climbing higher every day.  It’s called Best Fiends–a puzzle adventure game and it’s FREE.  And not only is it free–you don’t even need wi-fi to play it.  You swipe your finger on rows of leaves or mushrooms or flowers to try and beat the level and upgrade your characters (and collect diamonds).  There are tons of in-game challenges (including a fun Easter Egg challenge going on for the rest of April).

The first 100 readers to download the FREE game and get to level 10 will get $4.99 worth of gold and diamonds for free.

Download the game and learn more about Best Fiends here.

Love this easy centerpiece idea.

Especially the copper.

And that vintage door decorating idea in the background.

Great post on decorating with vintage finds.

Great post on what to do with shutters and a wreath and a fan and some books.

And this lemon cheesecake stopped me in my tracks.

Doesn’t it look so pretty and eastery?

  1. Leslie Watkins :

I always LOVE Thistlekeeping and it makes my Saturday! Thanks, friend for sharing! Happy Easter!!

  2. The picture with the fan made me smile. My mom moved (downsized) last summer and I inherited a similarly styled fan as a result. I’m sure everyone in my family thinks I’m crazy, but I love the fan (and remember using in in my bedroom at night in the days before my parents installed AC–if you live in Michigan, that’s not such an odd concept!).

We won’t see peonies till probably June. But right now the forsythia and daffodils are out …

  3. That last home tour is so interesting. They really made a big difference on the exterior by getting rid of the two tones and amping up the contrast between the walls and the trim. Very enlightening. The landscaping also helps, but what they did is the house equivalent of using a great foundation to cover flaws and then some excellent mascara/eyeliner to make the eyes pop.

  4. April Driggers :

Seriously, LOVE your blog so much! You write so conversationally that I just feel like we are BFFs! 🙂 I love that you posted the link for the centerpieces. I struggle with that SO MUCH! Especially on my EVERYDAY (breakfast nook) table because I hate the idea of a beautiful THING(s) that I have to move TWICE a day for meals. If you find simple but MOVEABLE ideas… you hit me up?! Okay!?

  5. You certainly but a spring in Spring😉
My peonies wont show their faces for a long while…little cooler ground in Minnesota. You are right why do they only last five minutes😥

Happy Easter to you and your family🐣

  6. Happy Saturday before Easter! I’m so excited I’m going to have my family under one roof!! It’s been too long since I’ve seen them. I love your flowers and I agree with peonies — they just don’t stick around long enough. If we were nicer to them do you think they’d stay?? We leave in May and most of the time I don’t see my beautiful peonies. I have different colors and I do want someone to enjoy them. If you are running through Indiana in May let me know and I’ll give you our address so you can pick all the peonies you want. Happy Easter to you and your gorgeous family!! 🤗🌷❤️

  7. I really miss little league baseball games, it was the best times of summer! Happy Easter Karianne

  8. Just want to wish the Happiest of Easters to my best never-met friend!! Thank-you for another fantastic Thistlekeeping, my weekend delight!

  9. Ooooh. I love that opening shot with the colorful fruit. Lovely.

Sorry about the baseball game. Peonies are my favorite flowers too. I’m actually pretty obsessed right now with making “Korean buttercream peonies”. If you haven’t seen them yet, google them. You’ll gasp. Now if only, I can find the mysterious recipe.

I’ve been so busy with college stuff the last few months, it’s nice to finally have a little breather and pop over and browse around and relax in front of my desktop computer (instead of on my phone on the road-lol).

So nice of you to include my cheesecake. You know I appreciate you, sweet friend.

Hope you have a wonderful Easter holiday.

  10. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Easter!!!

  11. MARY-ANN (FROM CANADA!) :

Have a blessed Easter! KariAnne, just love your blogs! Bless you for all you do for us!

  12. Happy Easter to everyone
    at Thistlewood Farm!! xoxo

  13. Julie Briones :

I wonder if I’m just imagining, but the Bless’er House ‘new’ home looks very similar to Suzy’s Worthing Court floor plan. Hmmm, just an observation (however wrong it may be!)

  14. I hope you had a great Easter and happy kiddos! Thanks for including me. Have a great week!

  15. I would kill for a slice of that lemon cheesecake right now. Hope you and your sweet family had a beautiful Easter, KariAnne! Hugs!
