Boxwood Letter Mason Jar Centerpiece

Boxwood Letter Mason Jar Centerpiece

This post is sponsored by Elmer’s.

I’m not sure about this whole fall back thing.

The entire it-used-to-be-light-but-now-it’s-dark-and-what-happened-to-the-rest-of-the-day isn’t really for me.

I like sunlight.  And driving home before the sun sets.  And eating dinner when I can see the sky.

It gets dark here now about 4:30.

And by 6:15 I feel like it’s time to call it a night.

I need more hours.  I need more light.  I need more time to glue and craft and make boxwood letter mason jar centerpieces like this one.

Maybe I should just craft hibernate until spring. 🙂Continue reading

How to Thanksgiving Table Ideas

No one warns you.

You’re just curling your hair and drinking coffee and trying to figure out if spaghetti squash is a thing when suddenly life lifts you up and spins you around and makes your heart flip because you discover that your kids are teenagers…

…and you haven’t buckled your seat belt.

Who knew?

You’re still filling sippy cups and replacing binkies and washing spit up out of your shirt.

And then one day you blink….

…and someone asks you for mascara.

I found this story in the archives when I was working on a project and I literally laughed out loud.

This one’s for the teenager in all of us. 🙂Continue reading

Here are a few random thoughts on a Saturday morning.

1. The sunrise this morning painted the trees orange.

2. I have decided that leggings are never going to be pants.  No matter how hard they try.  Even if they are velvet.  Even if they are faux denim with pockets.  Even if they try to rename themselves jeggings.  It’s simply not going to happen.

3. There’s a new Netflix series out called The Crown I’m going to start watching.  It had me at Queen Elizabeth.

4. I shopped at Target for Christmas and almost fainted in the aisle.  It was so amazing I can’t even.  I don’t want to spoil December on the blog for you, but it’s full of marble Christmas trees.

5.  Can we start a campaign to bring mittens back?

6.  Did anyone see the blonde-haired Cubs player’s wife sing God Bless America?  She was AMAZING.

6.  And finally, I have never, ever, ever been so happy….

….to see the back side of a week. 🙂Continue reading

Thistlekeeping on a Monday

Thistlekeeping on a Monday

Thistlekeeping on a Monday.

I know…right?

Sometimes life hands you a Monday and you just have to live on the edge.

Random thoughts on a cold Monday morning in the beautiful state of Kentucky.

1.  I missed Saturday Thistlekeeping because I was up at dark thirty helping with an all-day charity golf tournament.  It was so worth it because we reached our fundraising goal.

2.  I don’t want to give it away in case you haven’t watched Poldark yet, but I’m just going to put it on the table.  I knew it.

3.  I had the cutest idea for pumpkin cupcakes.  I bought a mini bundt pan and I was going to put two mini bundts together to make a pumpkin.  It didn’t work out.  The icing covered crumbs are still sitting on the counter.

4.  I’m working in the dining room today on a project idea that popped into my head in the middle of Poldark.

Fingers crossed it works out better than the cupcakes. 🙂Continue reading

My Favorite Family Thanksgiving Tradition

My Favorite Family Thanksgiving Tradition

We are big on tradition in our family.

As in, watch what you do one year…

…because you may be doing it years and years hence.

Like the annual family football game.

And the perfect slice of cranberry bread.

And highs and lows of the year on Thanksgiving.

And a Thanksgiving dinner table full of everything from turkey to mashed potatoes to ham to freshly baked rolls.

But my favorite family Thanksgiving tradition?

Our thankful tree.Continue reading

Five Simple Inexpensive Centerpiece Ideas

Did you know there are over 1000 posts on this blog?

I know, right?

Just between us I’m as surprised as you.

Four and a half years ago I sat down at the computer and clicked publish on the first one and I never looked back.  In between basketball and cheerleading and baseball and PTO and dogs and cats and kids….

….I wrote.

And wrote a little more.

And you left me a comment and I laughed when I read it and wrote more.

Until one day in July I started researching centerpieces for a free-lance article I’m working on and searched the blog to see if I had any blog posts that I’d written on tables and flowers and centerpieces I had created before.

And 32 posts came up.  Continue reading
