Changes and a Bay Leaf Magnolia Evergreen Holly Garland

Changes and a Bay Leaf Magnolia Evergreen Holly Garland

fall-centerpiece

Today I decorated the table in the dining room.

I added pumpkins and tinier pumpkins and a bay leaf garland and magnolia and evergreen and holly that covered the table and looked like fall….

….one last time.

I tucked the orange pillows on the chairs and fluffed the burlap curtains and straightened the dishes and swiped a cobweb off a woven, grapevine pumpkin.

And then?

Then I waved goodbye.Continue reading

Four Spring Table Decorating Ideas

Four Spring Table Decorating Ideas

spring table ideas farmhouse

Yesterday the sun was shining and the birds were chirping and white clouds were floating by in the sky and I had 6.5 hours until Downton Abbey came on television.

So I decorated the table for spring.

The twins thought it looked like fun way to spend an afternoon, so they helped me.

I found these place mats at WalMart for about a $1.00 and thought it would be fun to shop the house and come up with a table setting for spring.

And I did.

And I loved it.

But the twins?  They wanted color.  Of course they did.

So we created a few more place settings just for fun.

Want to see what we came up with?

Here are four spring table decorating ideas (with lots of color). 🙂Continue reading

spring porch decorating flowers

Happy day.

How about some flowers with your morning?

In no particular order, here’s my favorite things about Saturday.

1.  That moment when you open your eyes and the sun is peeking out from behind the horizon and you think you overslept but then you realize it’s Saturday.

And you slide back under the covers.

2.  It’s the perfect project day.  Nothing says Saturday like a morning run to Lowe’s or Home Depot.

3.  Or when you run out of projects or you’re kind of over them and they seem all intimidating and overwhelming, it’s the perfect Hallmark movie marathon day.

4.  But my favorite thing about Saturday?  It’s Saturday.

Enough said.

Mike drop. 🙂Continue reading

Christmas decorating ideas 2014

I just finished my 577th Christmas movie.

It was a good one.

It was all about these two people who opened a bookstore to save the world and in the process they kind of saved themselves and a young couple who both had big dreams and following their heart instead of what their parents wanted for them and they were trying to figure out what direction they should take and the book store people were helping them and it was heading for a happy ending.

Until.

Until it said at the end of the movie……to be continued.

NEXT YEAR.

I can’t even.

And now I think I need another movie to recover. 🙂

Look at this table setting.

Look at these chargers.

I am so happy that tree fell in our yard earlier this year.

Every time I visit this blog I sigh.

Every. Single. Time.

I wish she lived down the street from me and would bring that gold flat ware and those tiny Christmas stockings over to my house.

And now in random news this week:

Nine things to get rid of in your home (I’m not sure I agree with all of them).

These snowflake marshmallows are so cute.

If you listen to podcasts the second season of Serial just arrived.

This made me laugh

And best Christmas House tour ever.

Thanks Fixer Upper.

And one more for the road.

I still love this Christmas tour from last year.

It’s worth a second look.

Happy Random Christmas Saturday to you. 🙂

Pumpkins and Communication

Pumpkins and Communication

fall with pumpkins

Communication is a funny thing.

Some people are texters.

Some people are e-mailers.

Some people don’t even communicate at all.

But me?

I’m a phone talker.

Well….actually….I’m an in-person talker, but when that’s not available…..

…..the phone is always the next best thing.Continue reading

DIY Burlap Table Runner

DIY Burlap Table Runner

table runner diy project with burlap

When the new year rolls around and January 1 rolls out the red carpet….

…..some of my friends adopt a word of the year.

Have you every tried it?  Doesn’t that sound incredible and purposeful and a great way to start off the year with a little inspiration?

Except.

Except every year I began the challenge, I discovered that a year is a really long time to date a word.

Right?

January I’m totally in.  February I’m starting to lose steam.  And by March I’m so over it.

Ironically my word this year was “resolute.”

Seriously.

And we all see how that’s working out.  🙂Continue reading

flower decorating for spring

Happy Easter rock star.

I hope your day is full of sunshine and flowers.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean.

And still give faith a fighting chance.

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I truly, truly, truly hope you dance.Continue reading
