Twelve Creative Christmas Finds from Target Dollar Spot

This is not a sponsored post.

It’s actually more of a public service announcement.

This weekend I went to the Target Dollar Spot hoping to pick up a few things to add to my Christmas decor.

Just a few.

But the bins were so full of amazing, cute, clever ideas to use for decorating, to use for crafts and to use for wrapping gifts that I couldn’t keep them all to myself.

I had to share.

And when I pushed my full cart through the check-out line, I told my husband not to worry…

…I was shopping for all of us. 🙂Continue reading

Three Easy Christmas Centerpiece Ideas Under $20

Christmas back porch

Remember how I said I was not going to over commit this season?

Remember my list of five guidelines for a no-stress holiday?

I was this close.

This close.

I spent the first eight days of Christmas wrapping my gifts and ordering online and decorating with what I have and not over thinking everything and shaking my head no when I might have nodded it yes in the past.

Christmas was on track for smooth sailing this year.Continue reading

Decking the Halls

Decking the Halls

Red and white Christmas

When I unpacked the ornaments decorate the tree in the bedroom, there among the fancy velvet ho ho ho and the glitter stars and the monogrammed wood cutouts….

….I found an ornament someone gave us the year we got married.

It’s a simple clear circle without a lot of fanfare.

Just two doves and a heart and the words “Our First Christmas Together.”

Years later 37 boxes of Christmas decorations live in our upstairs attic and I would trade every single one for this ornament.  I can remember when it hung on a tree with only a box of shiny red ornaments and a little ribbon to keep it company.

I’ve never forgotten that tree.

And not just for that beautiful ornament hanging from its branches.

Here’s one of my favorite stories the second time around….

….because that’s the way the cookie crumbles. 🙂Continue reading

Pennant Flag Pillow and Go Kentucky!

Pennant Flag Pillow and Go Kentucky!

I was raised on football.

Every Friday night was spent with field goals and touchdowns and cheerleaders and marching bands and the bright stadium lights shining onto the field….

….and kissing your boyfriend under the bleachers. 🙂

I can still remember the championship game where our team kicked the field goal in the last 20 seconds and won the game by one point.

We screamed and yelled and danced in the stands and raised our hands and cheered until our voices were hoarse.

And for that brief moment we were all united in victory.

I know that it’s all about how you play the game….

…..but sharing the winning makes it all the sweeter. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I hope you were much smarter me and remembered you had to allow time to defrost your turkey.

Lots of time.

Like days and days and days.

Good thing the smiling friendly news anchors on Good Morning America reminded me….

….just in time to order the turkey from Cracker Barrel.

It was delicious. 🙂Continue reading

Creative Playroom Ideas

Yesterday I measured the craft room at the gatehouse to make sure everything would fit.

As I measured and wrote and measured and wrote some more……suddenly…..behind me…..a tiny voice piped up.

“Umm….Mom,”  she said in a whisper, tapping on my shoulder.

“Mom….can I ask you a question…..

…..where do we put our art stuff?”

I put down the measuring tape.

This was serious.

I could almost hear the tiny pieces of paper that live in the twins’ art house knocking at the door.

How to Paint a Dresser With Numbers

How to Paint a Dresser With Numbers

Painted-Dresser

I spent part of last week figuring out how to paint a dresser with numbers.

It’s been on my to-do list ever since last fourth of July when I first painted it gray and distressed it and put it in the upstairs playroom.

It never really looked right.

It looked….well….it looked….gray.

Gray with red numbers is so much better.Continue reading
