Merry Christmas pillow

Random thoughts on an almost December morning:

1. Yesterday was the 25th.  As in one month until Christmas.  As in yikes.  As in that spells i-m-n-o-t-r-e-a-d-y.

2. Poldark was trying to redeem himself last night.  I liked him slightly better.  But did you see that look Elizabeth gave him.  Please girl.  Get off your high horse.

3. To help me get over Poldark, I have Gilmore Girls cued up and ready to go.  If you have watched any of it, I’d love to hear your take on it.

4. And I literally cannot even with all the fun stuff I have planned for Christmas.

I may have to post a few more days than normal just to fit it all in.

Get the hot chocolate ready. 🙂

PS  If you need a little inspiration to tide you over through the weekend–here’s my tour from last year.

I wanted to give a shout out to my guardian angel this morning.

Yesterday I drove to Wisconsin for a fabric trunk show.

I didn’t mind.  I like to drive.  I can think and plan and dream and have myself all to myself.

A couple of hours into the drive I noticed the tire panel.  It showed that one tire was getting lower and lower and lower.  Nothing to be alarmed about at first.  It wasn’t fast.  Just a little bit here and then there, but the number kept going down.

Then I got worried.

I called my husband.  I prayed.  I bit my lip.  I faithfully watched the numbers on the tire panel on the car until I got to the nearest tire store that my husband called for me.

I pulled in to the parking lot and got out of the car….

….and discovered a nail in the tire.

The whole tire has to be replaced they said.

I was so lucky they said.

I was so smart to have come right in they told me.

*sigh*

Good thing my guardian angel is used to working overtime. 🙂Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning.

1.  I kind of feel like I’m cheating on fall.  I’m burning a pine scented candle this morning.

2.  Have you ever noticed that rooms in your house have a better time of day?  Morning is the best time for my dining room, but my kitchen doesn’t really get going until afternoon.

3.  Chapel Market was incredible.  I sold out of almost everything.  I did have a few things left and I just listed them over on my Painted Fox Collection.  You can check it out here.  Everything on the site is on sale, too.  Here are the details on the sale and there’s free shipping on everything.

4.  If you are on Instagram, I just found the prettiest new farmhouse feed to follow.  You can see it here.

5.  In exciting news, when I was speaking in Nebraska this week, one of the attendees told me when I talked it was as if I was ten feet tall.  I’ve been wearing heels my whole life to look taller.

Who knew all I had to do was just tell stories? 🙂Continue reading

In a couple of months this blog will be almost five years old.

I know, right?

I’m as surprised as you are.

Almost 5 years, over 5,000 pictures and over 1,000 posts later….

….and I’m not even a little bit tired.

I was thinking I should be.  I was thinking I probably should have run out of ideas or home decor or stories by now.

Not even close.

Not even one tiny bit.

I love writing this blog so much it makes my heart happy.  I love waking up and having coffee with you and laughing and touring the house and telling you about School House Rock and what happened to the encyclopedia.

So thank you.

Thank you for the encouragement.

Thank you for inspiring me every, single day.

And thank you for listening. 🙂Continue reading

If I had one tip I could pass on to my children.

One tip that could change their world.

One tip that would make them more productive citizens and help them to face the day and solve the problems of the world.

It would be this…..

….make your bed.

I know it’s simple.  I know it might seem silly.  I know it seems like the smallest of tasks.

But making a bed sets the routine for the day and ties up loose ends and straightens everything out just a bit….

….and helps you pause just a moment before you take on the world.

And now it’s your turn.

If you had to pass on one tip, what would it be?

Old Barn Ladder

Have you ever split an infinitive?

Whew.  Oh good.

Me, too.

In the never-ending attempt to try to write the best blog possible and learn more about life in general, I turned in a post to a professional grammeratician.  It was brutal.  I was doing all sorts of things I had no idea were wrong.  Like leaving two spaces after a sentence and misplacing a modifier and not spelling out the word inch and splitting infinitives.  Just between us, when I read the evaluation, I wasn’t even sure what an infinitive was.  I researched the subject and according to grammar 101 an infinitive is the word (to) + (the simple form of the verb).  Like “to run” or “to read” or “to paint” or “to write.”  Infinitives are the chameleons of the grammar world.  They can be nouns or adjectives or adverbs.

And I was splitting them.

No more.  I promise.  From this day forth I’ll give those infinitives the respect they deserve.

I want to creatively write like I’ve never done before.

Oops.

I did it again. 🙂Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning:

1.  I have been binge watching episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.  I can’t help it.  Just when one ends, Netflix loads another one for you without even asking.  I think to myself, just one more.  It’s kind of like brownies.

2.  I’ve given up diet coke this summer and replaced it with water.  My skin told me thank you.

3.  My kids have started playing Pokemon Go.  Apparently it’s a thing.  I asked them if a Pokemon was sitting next to me at the restaurant.

4.  In beauty news I found the best under eye concealer at WalMart.  It’s only $2.00 and it made me glow.

Or maybe that was the water. 🙂

Yesterday we spent all day at a basketball tournament.

I know you are thinking that it’s baseball season.

But we live in Kentucky.

At the end of a day of dribbling and passing and bouncing and shooting and running and lay-uping….

….we landed here.

Sitting around a fire laughing and talking and sharing and planning and hoping and dreaming and listening to crickets chirp under the stars.

It made me so happy that on that long ago day when our knees shook and our hearts trembled and we were so scared….

….that we jumped.Continue reading
